I was searching the web and found a lot of people like Shokz Open Run Pro 2, my friend personally likes the technicsys headphones.

My goal here is to listing to music while doing stuff like archery, running, rock climbing, hiking.

I've been using a Shokz OpenMove for about 4 years now. I got it because it had USB Type-C charging versus a proprietary waterproof charging cable. I use then everyday at work and they are still going strong. When these eventually die or break I'll be getting another pair.

I have the openrun pro 2. They're pretty great. Main annoyance is weird behavior around automatic connections to things you paired it to, but if you're just using it with your phone you won't notice that.

After this post, my friend let me try his Openrun 1 and it felt a little weird. It was as if there were directional speakers behind my head. Not sure how big of a difference the Openrun Pro 2s have on those

These two models have one big difference between them.

Those ones only have standards bone conduction. Openrun pro 2 adds an air conduction element, in addition to bone conduction. They sound surprisingly normal. It's easy to forget you have them on

About how big of a jump in sound quality is it?

Didn't have their prior models, but had another of the type. I'd say it's pretty noticeable.

Of course as open headphones you depend on not having too much noise to be able to hear all details. But when you're away from noise I've got zero complaints.

Does it have to be bone conducting? I had a few of them and liked them generally. But they have to be connected, which often makes them awkward to use sometimes. The sound quality didn't bother me as much, but obviously it wasn't great. When there is enough outside noise like wind or on a bicycle, you have to turn them us so much that it vibrates your skull, which is something i didn't like at all.

I switched to shokz open fit 2, which aren't bone conducting, but still an open ear concept. The sound quality is way better, and you can use them for everything, except wearing ear protection while listening to music. They are way more comfortable, you basically can wear them for 10 hours and forget they are there. I used them for about a year, every day almost all day at work. They eventually stopped working because of sweat and grime and whatever. I mean they still work, but the sound is pretty bad. I tried some similar no name products for about 30 bucks, they are all okay. Right now i use bose ultra open earbuds. So far they have the best sound quality, and they have a great fit, but are also expensive and they do start to feel uncomfortable after 2 or so hours. I got used to it and can wear them for quite some time now, but i hardly ever forget that i wear them, like the shokz open fit.

From some research, seems like the openrun pro 2 have a hybrid approach where they use bone conduction and air so it makes bass frequencies better, however, in the app, you can turn it to 100% bone conduction but people say it's not as powerful as the previous openrun pro 1. I wonder if there is 100% air conduction mode

I can only vote for the Shockz. Got several from them and they're my everyday companions.

Especially while work, I can listen to my shit, while my ears are open and I hear when I'm being called. At night, I can listen to some podcast, while I don't disturb my girlfriend.

I really love them. Sound quality is very good enough. Of course, don't expect pro audio levels, but they're way enough for "casual listening". Voice quality is wonderful, for listening to music, it is average, at all.

I haven't tried any other bone conducting, so I can't compare.

I've had several pairs of shokz headphones. I don't know the models as I tend to buy them used/untested from eBay because they are cheap that way. I like them for working out and being active and still being aware. Like the other posters said on newer versions the voice quality is good and the music audio is listenable. I don't wear them for practicing music but they are my go to for all other activities
