Of course, but Columbus was pivotal in the massacre of millions of native people. Of course the Trump team wants a statue of him.
They got upset because Columbus has been "Cancelled" due to all the awful shit he did. So this is their way to "stick" it to the libs.
All they do it performative theater. They don't actually know or care about Columbus, only that by praising him it upsets people with a conscience, so they keep doing it.
It really is just that.
This is what happens when the elementary school bully grows up without getting a good punch in the face along the way.
Awful shit aside, and it was awful shit, Columbus has nothing to do with north america. He never set foot on what we now call the USA.
