I myself am from the USA but I really can't think of anything. I do know of some right-wingers from my old high school who liked leftist stuff but I can't think of what they are off the top of my head. Maybe Star Trek, does that count?

Hopefully Streets of Minneapolis will get them to quit with the Springsteen.

I mean, they complained with 41 Shots, too, but it hasn't seemed to slow them down.

2 “If you buy a Hebrew servant, he is to serve you for six years. But in the seventh year, he shall go free, without paying anything.

3 If he comes alone, he is to go free alone; but if he has a wife when he comes, she is to go with him.

  1. If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the woman and her children shall belong to her master, and only the man shall go free.

5 “But if the servant declares, ‘I love my master and my wife and children and do not want to go free,’

6 then his master must take him before the judges. He shall take him to the door or the doorpost and pierce his ear with an awl. Then he will be his servant for life.

7 “If a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as male servants do.

8 If she does not please the master who has selected her for himself, he must let her be redeemed. He has no right to sell her to foreigners, because he has broken faith with her.

9 If he selects her for his son, he must grant her the rights of a daughter.

10 If he marries another woman, he must not deprive the first one of her food, clothing and marital rights.

11 If he does not provide her with these three things, she is to go free, without any payment of money.

This is Exodus 21:2-11. It supports slavery; restrained, non-racial slavery, but slavery nonetheless.

The bible does not construct a consistent moral framework; it has vastly different - even contradictory - moral messaging because it is multiple texts written and constantly revised by multiple people who lived hundreds or even thousands of years apart, in different parts of the world, and for many different reasons. By picking and choosing which parts of the bible to emphasize you can use it to support a wide range of moral arguments. This is both a feature and a bug for charlatans throughout history who use it as a means of control.

[–] RattlerSix@lemmy.world 10 points 1 week ago

Leviticus 25 is not so restrained.

"As for the male and female slaves whom you may have, it is from the nations around you that you may acquire male and female slaves. You may also acquire them from among the aliens residing with you and from their families who are with you who have been born in your land; they may be your property. You may keep them as a possession for your children after you, for them to inherit as property. These you may treat as slaves, but as for your fellow Israelites, no one shall rule over the other with harshness."

Fellow hebrews are servants for a free years and shouldn't be treated harshly. Foreigners are property for life and harshness is expected.

That's very true! My girlfriend's other queerplatonic partner is a Christian who respects LGBTQ and is pretty left-wing on a lot of talking points, and they actually don't believe in discrimination like the right does.

Depends what chapter you're reading. Multi genocide, pro slavery, women should be silent property, homosexuals are sinning, impregnating a minor without her consent, eternal torture chamber owner for not kissing his ass isn't leftist. Intergenerational forever curse for eating a fruit before having the knowledge not to sounds like a control freak abusive nutter to me.

Star Trek, the Matrix, Dune... lots of sci-fi, really

Just about all scifi

DOCTOR WHO, especially around the 13th and 15th doctor, arguable 15th doctor was weak actor compared the other ones, and also bad writing.

[–] Wrufieotnak@feddit.org 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Is Dune leftist? I see it more as a scientific work dissecting power structures and human psychology, but not really criticizing those power structures and providing a better alternative.

It was embraced by the Left of its time for being so ecologically-forward. I think one of Dune's central themes is criticizing power from the reader's perspective - we know that Paul and Leto II's plans will have disastrous results, but even with psychic knowledge theyre still short sighted.

Idk. Calling it "leftist" is maybe a stretch, but its left-adjacent id say

Lord of the Rings, it's not full leftist but it's very much anti-war , anti-fascism, and supports environmentalism. Right-wingers love naming their newest Torment Nexus Fascist Tool after Lord of the Rings stuff.

Yes, Star Trek. Hands-down one of the craziest contradictions I can come up with.

My entire generation grew up with Star Trek TNG, DS9, Voyager...I don't think they payed any attention to the actual plot.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 5 points 1 week ago

they dont, only the fact that a women was in charge in STD, is what set them off.

[–] PiraHxCx@lemmy.dbzer0.com 16 points 1 week ago

Basically everything they like from before recommendation_watchnext.serve() molded their brains, they believe all the geek franchises they love turned "woke" in the last 10 years.

[–] Olgratin_Magmatoe@slrpnk.net 13 points 1 week ago

90% of sci-fi falls in this category. Most sci-fi has leftist roots or messaging, antifascist themes, and so on.

My dad is one of the ones who loves star trek despite its glaring leftist messaging.

The Culture series is a post scarcity society run by AI minds, they meddle in the affairs of other alien cultures and that asshat Elon Musk seem to like the stories but probably only like that there was AI ships that gave themselves odd names. He gives his spaceships names in a similar style.

I rather doubt he wants a society like Culture because without scarcity he would be equal to others and he wouldn't want that.

IIRC, the original Star Trek was the first TV show to have a kiss between an interracial couple, and was absolutely hated by right-wingers because of it. That, and plenty of other socialist themes like black people having equal status and respect as white people.

Other good ones have been posted, but I'd add the Starship Troopers movie to the list and by extension the game Helldivers 2 which parodies the same fascist regime disguised by democratic jingoism theme as the movie. I believe the original Starship Troopers book was 100% serious with its support for a fascist regime, however.

it wasnt a problem til STDISCOVERY came out, when women were in lead roles and more prominent gay roles. thats when it all sorta started with conservatives. also commenting on older st shows that predated STD is odd.

[–] teslekova@sh.itjust.works 3 points 1 week ago

It's like Voyager never existed.

Im still iffy about the kiss. I respect the cultural significance, and the fact that the actors stood their ground on it.

But, in the story itself, its forced on Kirk and Uhura, and its just a bit of a weird shade on the whole thing that I guess I have to let slide?

star trek doesnt count, mostly because they never watched it until STD came out, they dint like the "woman, gays" being so on the lead role, thats about the same time when the propaganda became super apparent in naming leftist messages as woke around the time of trumps attempt at a 2nd term. just like with DOCTOR who. around 2020 they start rearing thier stinking heads on comment sections on youtube videos. they only have a problem when a 'white male, christian is the lead role in a movie/show".

right wing only consumes things that are within thier worldview, thats why its almost alwayss fox news, and right wing pundits.
