That was for the previous Jesus.

[–] tidderuuf@lemmy.world 11 points 1 week ago (1 children)

We've had one yes? What about second Jesus?

[–] CIA_chatbot@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

I want my own personal Jesus, some one to be my friend, can we get one of those?

[–] Treczoks@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago

That's just "thinking ahead".

[–] Rivalarrival@lemmy.today 17 points 1 week ago (2 children)

At that time, a cross would have carried about the same meaning as a noose.

[–] Wilco@lemmy.zip 1 points 1 week ago

It still does.

[–] janus2@lemmy.zip -3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

wouldn't an electric chair be a closer match in meaning? nooses usually symbolize suicide moreso than execution these days

[–] folekaule@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

That depends where you are. In America it is more often associated with lynchings than suicide.

Edit: to add a little context from Wikipedia: Noose: Use in intimidation and hate-based racial politics - this is why I said "depends where you are". I had no idea of these connotations before I moved to the US, either.

[–] parzival@lemmy.org 2 points 1 week ago

Not really where I am? I guess it might be younger people or smth but I feel like oeoples first thought is usually suicide ato

Janus with one a sounds like it might be a couple of countries south of me, we spell it Jaanus here in Estonia

So basically I'm suspecting eastern europe for their origin and over here we mostly don't think about lynching very much. Execution by hanging was a thing but so long ago it's nearly forgotten.

Not sure where you're from, but in the U.S., at least, nooses have a specific historical and cultural meaning. It's illegal to tie a noose with 13 or more coild in the u.s. for this reason, and it has nothing to do with suicide.

Not Even a Spoiler alert…

[–] riskable@programming.dev 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

To be fair, lots of people were crucified at the time. Many with the same name as Jesus and many for the same crimes!

In this case, though... It was merely the pubic execution of a leprechaun.

[–] hoshikarakitaridia@lemmy.world 2 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Pubic execution is a great way to refer to a sex change

[–] riskable@programming.dev 1 points 1 week ago

Have to hang em out to dry after surgery.

[–] WanderWisley@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

It’s almost as if they planned it from the start…
