Daniel Jeremiah on Move the Sticks:

"That Bears team is not talented. I mean, they are 10 players away from being 10 players away. I mean they have not a lot going on there. They are not good on offensive line, they aren't good on the defensive line. DJ Moore is a stud....but that is their guy.

This (team) is not a quarterback away. Obviously they are going to be in a position more than likely with their pick as well as owning the Panthers pick....they are going to have a chance to go in that direction if they want to move on from Justin Fields, but they got MAJOR work to do on this roster."

"I think they have to commit to a QB....they need to trade their other pick to amass a bunch of picks. They need to auction it off because they need a lot of help."

PAAAIIIIIIINNNNNNN.

Don’t stress it, it’s a really bad take.

As always the truth is somewhere in between

Bears r bad. They have a culture/tradition of losing the last few coaches. They cannot come back from a deficit of 12+ points, cannot find an identity on offense, have games where they can’t tackle and cover, do not get better week to week, players don’t grow here, they seem to regress, and the general feel of the team from fans is “guess I’ll waste my time watching the bears lose.”

They have been passed by the lions and the packers will pass them soon. The pack have a coach in place n will draft/sign a qb n leap frog the bears. The bears will start over with a new staff, possibly a new qb, new defensive coordinator and again need 2-3 years to really see the improvement. Was sad to not renew my season tickets in 2021 but watching/rewarding incompetence is just not my thing. Bears in 2029ish

I think it’s an overly negative take. It’s kinda hard to separate the talent from the lack of development from this coaching staff too. I guess we’ll see with a new staff in place next season, but I don’t believe this is fair from Jeremiah.

Who's Daniel Jeremiah?

[–] Tonkathedog@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I agree we have a lot to fix but I wouldn’t trade down if we have the chance at MHJ.

That being said which of our position groups realistically are good enough-or have a path to be good enough-to compete? RB, off ball LB, and maybe TE(Kmet isn’t great but TE isn’t super important) imo. We need to add legitimate starters at OL, another legitimate receiving threat, maybe a new QB, another Edge and quality backup edge rushers, either new starters on the IDL or better depth if Dexter/Pickens hit, at least 1 new safety, and depending on how Stevenson/Gordon grow and what happens with JJ we may need more at CB too

[–] Chi-Guy86@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

We are obviously not a talented team overall, but this is a hyperbolic take designed to get clicks. It’s not as bad as he’s claiming

[–] Jkrajecki@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Such a lazy take by DJ. They have a ways to go but to say they are 20 players away is just a stupid hot take. Their OL sucks? So Darnell Wright, Teven Jenkins and Nate Davis are garbage???

[–] KingRemoStar@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

On defense there a DT, Edge rusher and some quality debt away.

People say that as if the Bears as currently constructed are one of the worst teams of all time. I get we’re a continual laughing stock, but we aren’t even the worst team in the league and by some metrics aren’t even in the bottom 3. “10 players away from being 10 players away” would put us in contention for like the worst ever, basically saying we don’t have NFL quality players anywhere.

That’s complete hyperbole. We are missing All-Pro talent, other Pro Bowl caliber starters, some depth and have a god awful coaching staff.

That just makes us regular bad. Which we routinely are. But this isn’t the most challenging job for a GM ever. There are some good bones on the roster.

Who's Daniel Jeremiah?

He sounds like a drunk bitter packer fan.

[–] Aggravating-Card-194@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This is just hyperbole. To say we need 20 new starters to be competitive is laughable.

We have an average WR room, RB room, and TE room. Our OL has 3 very good players, 2 okay, and 2 terrible who all mix in and out.

We have a top LB room, average secondary, and bottom tier DL with some raw potential (prior to Sweat).

We also have a bottom 3 coaching staff in the league.

The Bears were a sexy pick to make the playoffs this ear (in an admittedly watered down NFC) A big reason for that was people thought Justin Fields was going to become an elite QB. But it was also because people felt this team had made improvements.

The team has a stud set of running backs and if Johnson stays a great group at CB. Our LB's are in fact pretty decent even if overpaid. Our pass catchers are average.

If we actually hit a home run at QB, this team can be a playoff team quite quickly. Not to mention getting a better coach.

He's very provocative.

Gets the people going.

[–] HankChinaski-@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He isn’t if you listen to him at all. He’s usually anti hot take….which is why it was shocking.

[–] LazyAssedAmbassador@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Seems about right

[–] MDizzleGrizzle@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

So he’s saying there are only 2 players on the roster that are worth keeping? C’mon man!

[–] Katy_Lies1975@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Who is this guy and why is opinion that important? Does he have some kind of radio show or something? Was he a coach?

[–] BroDudeBruhMan@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Players are one thing, but one thing this team needs to work on are these damn penalties, especially on offense.

[–] aguy21@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Jokes on you. Now we’re 9 players away from being 10 players away.

[–] donnydollarz@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

With all due respect - fuck Danielle Jeremiah

[–] IMKudaimi123@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

We are a HC, a staff, a QB (pls fields), another WR, a C, another DE and DT, and DB away

[–] Iffybiz@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

What Daniel doesn’t tell you is that coaching creates talent. I’m not talking a few superstars, of which each team may have one or two. I’m talking about players who play great on great teams but would be average at best here. Those are the guys we don’t have and there’s a simple reason why they don’t have them. Coaching.

You know when the announcer says “that’s something that just can’t be coached.” Everything else is. You want a great offensive line? Go hire Bill Callahan away from Cleveland. Add a center, done. No you won’t need a new LT, Braxton Jones will be upper half in the league. Jenkins and Wright will be all pro. Want a better DL? talk Rod Marinelli out of retirement. Dexter and Sweat would be superstars with him teaching them.

Want to fix Fields? hire Greg Roman. In fact, hire Harbaugh to put it all together. Bears fans don’t get it. Ditka and Finks were fine but the real secret was guys like Jim Linehan (OL coach) Ed Hughes (OC) Buddy Ryan (DC) Dave McGinness (LB). You don’t need superstars everywhere, you need good talent that is coached really well. Then it’s a matter of getting the right fit for some players. That’s the GM job, he creates the template for each position and then brings them in. The coaches coach them and bingo, you have success.

I’ve said this many times. The Bears (and probably a lot of teams) would like to be like the Steelers. When they hired Tomlin, he had to conform to what they did. He wanted to switch to a 4-3 and they said no we’re keeping the same defense and coaches. They don’t fire coaches, they fire position coaches. Whatever changes are made are done with the idea of not changing the nature of the team. That’s why they are so consistently successful. The FO knows exactly what kind of players to bring in, they will always fit that template that they look for.

[–] Disprezzi@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Seems accurate to me. Been watching for a long time and I have trouble remembering a worse team than this one.

[–] rhj2020@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Poles needs to be fired. He literally repeat the same mistake as last year. Our second round pick will be basically another first. You don’t get better trading draft picks. It’s almost like he doesn’t have faith in himself drafting players.

Who is this Daniel Jeremiah and why do I care about him?
