Leaf => leaves. Staff => staves. Wolf => wolves. Wharf => wharves. Scarf => scarves. Dwarfs is a verb form of dwarf, dwarves is the plural, I will die on this hill.
IMO, "Dwarfs" is for something way bigger than another thing. "Beetleguese dwarfs the sun."
