Welcome to the largest gaming community on Lemmy! Discussion for all kinds of games. Video games, tabletop games, card games etc.

Rules

1. Submissions have to be related to games

Video games, tabletop, or otherwise. Posts not related to games will be deleted.

This community is focused on games, of all kinds. Any news item or discussion should be related to gaming in some way.

2. No bigotry or harassment, be civil

No bigotry, hardline stance. Try not to get too heated when entering into a discussion or debate.

We are here to talk and discuss about one of our passions, not fight or be exposed to hate. Posts or responses that are hateful will be deleted to keep the atmosphere good. If repeatedly violated, not only will the comment be deleted but a ban will be handed out as well. We judge each case individually.

3. No excessive self-promotion

Try to keep it to 10% self-promotion / 90% other stuff in your post history.

This is to prevent people from posting for the sole purpose of promoting their own website or social media account.

4. Stay on-topic; no memes, funny videos, giveaways, reposts, or low-effort posts

This community is mostly for discussion and news. Remember to search for the thing you're submitting before posting to see if it's already been posted.

We want to keep the quality of posts high. Therefore, memes, funny videos, low-effort posts and reposts are not allowed. We prohibit giveaways because we cannot be sure that the person holding the giveaway will actually do what they promise.

5. Mark Spoilers and NSFW

Make sure to mark your stuff or it may be removed.

No one wants to be spoiled. Therefore, always mark spoilers. Similarly mark NSFW, in case anyone is browsing in a public space or at work.

6. No linking to piracy

Don't share it here, there are other places to find it. Discussion of piracy is fine.

We don't want us moderators or the admins of lemmy.world to get in trouble for linking to piracy. Therefore, any link to piracy will be removed. Discussion of it is of course allowed.

Not really sure it's for me but I am just happy that it really annoys Nintendo

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 23 points 2 weeks ago (37 children)

Out ofthe loop here. Why does Nintendo care?

[–] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 72 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

Nintendo spent a load of money and resources in a protracted legal battle trying to get the project canned by suing them for everything they could think of. It ended in them forcing Palworld to remove the ball throwing mechanic, because apparently Pokemon has that copyrighted or something.

Pokemon has that copyrighted or something.

Patented, which is even dumber

[–] Dagnet@lemmy.world 32 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

And the gliding with monsters

[–] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 8 points 2 weeks ago

Damn, didn't know that.

I hope so. I played the game last year and everything felt a bit lackluster and janky. It's a pretty fun game, but I hope 1.0 adds that polish it needs.

I was planning on starting a new world once 1.0 drops and was worried how big this update will be. This gives me some confidence. I really like what they have done so far and can‘t wait to see how they‘ll wrap it up.

[–] orenj@lemmy.sdf.org 20 points 2 weeks ago

Hey, I doubt it! Still totally on board to spite nintendo tho

[–] Tattorack@lemmy.world 18 points 2 weeks ago

Less tell more show.

There are loads of technical issues with Palworld that put me off from buying it.

There's another game that mashed Pokémon and Palworld called Pickmon i think, still in early access but they are copying both games shamelessly.

There's Pokopia. An actual Nintendo made game that just came out. My BF got it recently, and it's basically Pokemon+Minecraft+Animal Crossing+Palworld's automation using the Pokemon.

It's super good and I want it now. 😳

[–] Doc_Crankenstein@slrpnk.net 27 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

One problem with that: it's actually made by Nintendo. Fuck Nintendo.

It's just mostly just a reskin of Dragon Quest Builders. Pokopia is Builders 3.

They used an animal crossing menu UI. Removed the combat. Added pokemon. Exact same story and mechanics.

Is it steam deck compatible? Like controls wise?

[–] warmaster@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

My kid plays it on the deck, he's 7. So, I guess it's fine.

[–] YiddishMcSquidish@lemmy.today 8 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Then I very well might to be able to tank it. Glad your kid did the research.

Oh, I thought these headlines were from the past and this was roasting Pocketpair for saying that

[–] QuandaleDingle@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago

If they can give the environments a stronger, more "toon" art direction, and fix the player character's chopped looks, no one will be able to pull me off this game!!!

[–] FirmDistribution@lemmy.world 7 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (7 children)

I was thinking about buying this game on a sale.

Can anybody tell me how the game compares to its first release? The game peaked at 2 million consecutive players, that's a lot!

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 13 points 2 weeks ago

I last played it a couple of months ago. It's significantly more fleshed out than the initial release, which seemed pretty empty and boring by comparison. Crafting isn't really my thing but they make it relatively easy and not as annoying as many other games. Overall it's worth checking out. I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought I would

Abiotic Factor is not a bad game, but holy shit is that such a different game.

Thats like if someone was craving chicken noodle soup and you said "just have chili".
