Data Hoarder

We are digital librarians. Among us are represented the various reasons to keep data -- legal requirements, competitive requirements, uncertainty of permanence of cloud services, distaste for transmitting your data externally (e.g. government or corporate espionage), cultural and familial archivists, internet collapse preppers, and people who do it themselves so they're sure it's done right. Everyone has their reasons for curating the data they have decided to keep (either forever or For A Damn Long Time (tm) ). Along the way we have sought out like-minded individuals to exchange strategies, war stories, and cautionary tales of failures.

I typically only pay $5 to $8 for a used 2TB SAS drive depending on the specs I mostly buy bulk used SAS drive so for under $5 each. Since it is a SATA drive it might be worth a bit more since you don't need a SAS card to use it.

Hard drive manufacturers should take note of the botched job they've done with the SMRs if people feel the need to say a Green from 2009 is CMR (never mind that all greens were long gone by the time WD actually matched Seagate and started submarining SMRs too).
