I don't understand why we just didn't pay Roquan

[–] Marcus11599@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Nah fr. Best LB in the league rn. I said he was worth it and nobody else agreed. Now look at us

[–] TherealPattyP@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

So George can bathe in gold coins a la Scrooge McDuck

[–] rugbysecondrow@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

This Jaylon Johnson talk has gotten crazy. Folks are acting like he is the next Deon Sanders or Champ Bailey. My man has missed 1/3 of his games iin 2022, 25% of his games this season. He balled out against LV, but has only been above average otherwise. He allowed a TD in the Chargers game.

I'm not saying I want him to go to another team, or even be traded, but folks are acting like we should issue a blank check in $ and years to a guy who is an above average CB, but not the best.

He’s giving mid LBs $18M/year. JJ is the best player on this defense and at some point you gotta start retaining your best players. Getting rid of Mack and Quinn made sense, getting rid of your best players when they’re 25 doesn’t

[–] dezzbuttz@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

For players that aren’t ass

[–] Gandalf4158@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Jim Harbaugh

[–] sonicsean899@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Honestly I think a lot of it is because the McCaskeys don't want to spend anything. Especially now that they're trying to get a new stadium and will likely be forced to cough up something for it.

Or he believes that he can get free agents to sign by massively overpaying them.

[–] thing4thing@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Gotta sign more mediocre guys who grew up near Chicago.

[–] SquishySC@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Can’t even afford Shohei Ohtani

[–] In-the-bunker@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Because he isn't a competent NFL GM. Letting high-quality players like Smith, Daniels, and probably Johnson walk, trading the 32nd pick for Claypool, and drafting an old incompetent WR in Jones.

[–] Placeholder4me@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You can’t be hoarding something if you don’t have it yet. That is the cap space for next year, which means he will have that to spend in the off season on extensions and free agents

[–] discwrangler@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

They're allergic to winning so why spend?

[–] Neat_On_The_Rocks@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The fact that poles will have spent 3 premium draft picks on DBs in his first two drafts all while letting his best DB walk is kinda insane

[–] bmraovdeys@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Devonte Adams

[–] ObservingtheCircus@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He’s trying to sign long term players, and wants to be capable of doing that if they’re available. Unfortunately, FA last year wasn’t great and mediocre players always want the bank. I respect his patience to not sign “meh” players to big deals, but as a fan it’s hard to sit and see all that space and not see a lot of splashes as a result. I just hope he’s not being too stingy or picky. If guys feel he is, it could hurt players from wanting to stay and come to Chicago. Based on his signings in fa last year, I think he’s on the right track, but we’ve waited a long time for a winning product, and waiting longer is not something anyone wants to do.

[–] Tedy_Duchamp@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Gotta sign Bustin to a record breaking deal

[–] DeezNeezuts@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Signing Tom Brady and Keyshawn Johnson

[–] Subject-Ad-9220@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Actual talent. No one on this team deserves to get paid. Except maybe wright and jenkins and of course dj

[–] Matthiasad@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

So he can see what being number 1 at something feels like.

[–] Tunatron_Prime@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He’s like Michael from the office. He gets a bonus if he doesn’t spend anything.

[–] spl1970@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You can only assume George is giving him a cut of what's left.

[–] hahasuslikeamongus@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The 8th wave of free agency of course

[–] Stommped@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Kawhi could opt out and be a FA this summer… wait

[–] PerscribedPharmacist@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Worse players

[–] TaigasPantsu@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Isn’t the team broke? Like, they’re delaying Arlington because they underestimated how expensive a stadium is

[–] ReapYerSoul@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

The bidding war of 2024

[–] PUfelix85@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

He thinks that budgeting for an NFL franchise is like budgeting a household. If you don't spend the money now, you can save it and spend it later. Unfortunately, an NFL franchise is much more like the US government. If you don't spend the money, the money just disappears. It doesn't help you in the future and it doesn't save anyone any money now either.

[–] RangDIPKINZIE@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

A better free agent class and 2 top 5 picks. Gets to pick his own QB. $$$ to thrown around. Sounds sweet to me.

[–] TheLegendofLazerArm@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Poles 🤝 Flus

hoarding resource that can’t be rolled over

[–] fishfearme420@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You’re all overreacting. You don’t pay top money for a guy with this team. That’s a win now move. You don’t go all in until you have the QB and trenches established. Maybe that’s 2026 at this point. The money rolls over you dummies. The bears don’t actually get to keep it.

Hoarding? He spent a large chunk this off-season. The guys he got just suck (for the most part). He has no eye for talent.

[–] Burdiac@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Remember when Theo came to the Cubs and his plan was to tank for a few years trade away all the assets for prospects…. This team is not built for a long runsright now.

[–] Opening_Anteater456@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

If he thinks JJ is a 16M per year player with a significant injury history and desire to miss OTAs how high should he go?

20M - ok.

22M and huge guarantees, maybe that’s where the line stops.

If you don’t draw a line every other free agent will request the full bag.

I don’t want to lose JJ but I’m fine with Poles making the decision to either sign him or trade him now rather than waiting until the end of the year. And I’m also fine with Poles having a limit.

[–] phillip_1425@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

You’re delusional

[–] redditdude9753@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

So we can be #1 at something? 😆😂

[–] 21Ryan21@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Poles plan is to tank every year he is here and he is executing that plan perfectly.

[–] ffellini@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago
  1. Draft a player
  2. Player is good
  3. Don’t sign him because he’s asking for money
  4. Refer to #1
[–] Ice4life2@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think he’s get a 15% bonus on the surplus and he’s been known to be seen at the Burlington Coat Factory.

[–] rhj2020@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

To give to mediocre free agents of course. Another average right guard will surely put this team over the top. Fire Poles Warren!

[–] f00tballguy@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It’s actually sort of impressive how Poles has managed the alienate our two most talented young defensive players by playing hard ball, while at the same time throwing the bag at Cole Kmet and two mediocre off ball linebackers.

Another Poles master class. “Smartest guy in the room” vibes

[–] thereal_et@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

To be cap space champions! They're going back to back

[–] iunrealx1995@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

To overpay for a bunch of free agents who will mail it in after their big contract.

[–] Silly-Payment7864@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I’m fine with the cap space , he knew exactly where this roster is . Poles will make some good moves during the offseason. Last year , there wasn’t really anything out there that was worth spending. Between this draft and free agency, next roster will look a lot better. There is going to be a lot of changes next season.

[–] Marcus11599@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Owners are broke

[–] acrossthecurve@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

A few More big LB contracts

[–] Constant_Layer4379@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

How is this allowed? Doesn't the cba require them to spend money?

[–] RicardosMontalban@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

We have a QB1 and GM both afraid to make a decision until something can’t miss appears.

[–] 1908_WS_Champ@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

For a worse version of any decent player on this roster when the team fails to re-sign any of them
