Two more TNR cats (infosec.pub)
submitted 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) by FauxPseudo@lemmy.world to c/cat@lemmy.world

We ended up trapping 5 cats but three were repeat customers who are so desperate for sardines they will get into a trap more than once. This means we are almost done with this colony after almost a year. Up next is one of the local trash disposal places.

SUMMER, WHERE ARE MY TESTICLES? ๐Ÿ˜พ

[โ€“] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 33 points 2 weeks ago

Ovaries in both cases. But close enough.

"It sounds like you're just feeding shelter sardines to the cats."

Luckily nobody is going to cry about that.

The shelter supplies panacur and azithromycin. Feral kittens need a lot of that stuff. But not sardines. We recently got a donation of sardines from the local SPCA. That was all awesome. I made a promise to myself that I wouldn't eat any of them except for the ones that were left over after I baited the traps. My wife does not understand why I will totally eat any leftover sardines.

Sardines are full of calcium, omegas and protein!

And it's not as if the cats licked the tin

[โ€“] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 17 points 2 weeks ago

The only cats that lick the tin are the ones in my kitchen afterwards I have removed all the tasty fishes from it. This happens more often than I like to admit.

I know that you are less offended by cat urine smell if you have Toxoplasmosis gondi, the most successful parasite on Earth, but I'm starting to be concerned that infection also makes you crave sardines.

Seconding the thanks. TNR saves lives!

I wish I could do more. There are three factors that severely limit my abilities.

  1. available free spots at the shelter fix cats for free.
  2. gas money. I frequently have to do three or four trips on the one day that free spots are available at the shelter.
  3. I own four traps. On a good day I can borrow three more from the SPCA. I need more traps.

I guess if I get a 4th it would be that sardines aren't free and I use those to bait traps. But I don't really count that one because sardines are dirt cheap. If there's anything left over from a tin I get to eat them.

I can't change the government. I can't change gas prices. I need more traps.

I would get stuck in there feasting on sardines.

So wait what are you doing?

[โ€“] FauxPseudo@lemmy.world 14 points 2 weeks ago

Trap Neuter Release. Find homeless cats, trap them. Get them fixed and vaccinated against rabies. Put them back where they were found. This stops them from breeding out of control.

I want to be friends with the one on the right.
