“Americans memory hole shit” is literally their campaign strategy

It’s the ultimate American paradox, a country that gets itself so bent out of shape about worshipping and venerating its history, supremely concerned about what the Founding Fathers and marquee leaders of its past would think about what they’re doing, while also retaining zero ability to retain and process any actual history.

[–] Azarova@hexbear.net 68 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago) (1 children)

That's because the "history" they venerate is just a disguised national myth.

One again I tap on the American Civil Religion sign...

[–] LaGG_3@hexbear.net 27 points 2 years ago

Isn't this just a mirror of American Christianity? They don't call all the flag-fucking a civil religion for nothing!

[–] Magician@hexbear.net 25 points 2 years ago

Like forgetting the original purpose of the confederate statues they defend. But I think it's more they know what they're doing and feigning ignorance so you're the one not being civil when you call them out.

[–] usernamesaredifficul@hexbear.net 17 points 2 years ago

maybe they actually would forget about the civil war without the monuments

[–] PorkrollPosadist@hexbear.net 120 points 2 years ago (2 children)

I still haven't forgot about my $600.

[–] FourteenEyes@hexbear.net 37 points 2 years ago (1 children)

WHERE THE FUCK IS MY MONEY JOE honk-enraged

[–] CantaloupeAss@hexbear.net 16 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Now that Joe restarted student loans it's literally being siphoned from me. feast only ever gave me money!

[–] Catradora_Stalinism@hexbear.net 89 points 2 years ago (4 children)

yes just like how the americans forgot a small terrorist incident in 2001 that only killed a minuscule fraction of the people dying in gaza right now

just like that

[–] Futterbinger@hexbear.net 74 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Americans only remember nine eleven because of the damage to private property. We didn't give a fuck about the pentagon on 9/11, we dont even talk of the people on that plane who died. We don't give a shit about all the hundreds of kids murdered in mass shootings, or simply run over by gigantic passenger vehicles. We didn't give a fuck when like five hundred people were shot in Vegas. We didn't give a shit about a 9/11 worth of people that died every single day for a while there during covid. But oh boy those two big shining towers of private property fall down and we're ready two start two wars and kill like three million people.

[–] star_wraith@hexbear.net 22 points 2 years ago (1 children)
[–] FumpyAer@hexbear.net 18 points 2 years ago

I would regularly see the number of people dying of covid per day and calculate how many days it took for a 9/11 of people to be killed.

[–] barrbaric@hexbear.net 70 points 2 years ago

You're missing something crucial though: us-foreign-policy

[–] TheLepidopterists@hexbear.net 68 points 2 years ago (1 children)

According to Israel's stupid "9/11s as a fraction of total population" we're at 363 9/11s inflicted on Gaza at this point.

[–] Futterbinger@hexbear.net 56 points 2 years ago

121 9/11's of just children.

That's okay. I won't remember to vote so it balances out.

Any lesser-evil libs want to tell me how it's more my fault than the DNC?

[–] TheModerateTankie@hexbear.net 55 points 2 years ago

It's fucking genocide

[–] Tankiedesantski@hexbear.net 46 points 2 years ago (2 children)

You see, Arab voters lack what we call "object permanence". If they can't see something happening, they think that it never happened and will never happen ag- I've just been informed by my my aides that I am in fact thinking about babies.

[–] sloth@hexbear.net 44 points 2 years ago (1 children)

To be fair, there is another "October Surprise" between now and then.

Muslim voters think their votes matter and that the democrats care about courting them.

They are mistaken.

[–] Feinsteins_Ghost@hexbear.net 38 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I mean, generally, most Americans are morons.

Long on anger, and very quick to forget why they were even pissed to begin with. As someoen else said, its a good bet. Just remind them They need to vote and all will be forgotten.

[–] RyanGosling@hexbear.net 32 points 2 years ago* (last edited 2 years ago)

Liberals and conservatives gave pointless symbolic support to black and Asian Americans, so it makes sense why they would continue voting for the parties even if it's reluctantly. But both liberals and conservatives routinely team up to call for the genocide of Muslims and Arabs for like 20 years now. I don't know what it looks like statistically, but anecdotally the Muslims I know are like 18-23 and all of them hate the US lol

Liberal electoral brilliance.

Piss off anybody who is against genociding brown people while running against Republicans. Now your base is people who don't mind genociding brown people who aren't already voting for the "genocide brown people" party.

Hard to think of a better way to cut yourself off at the knees.

Liberals hoping to beat Republicans without anybody who cares about genocide, labor rights, the environment, young people or lgbtq rights.

[–] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 15 points 2 years ago (1 children)

Liberals hoping to beat Republicans without anybody who cares about genocide, labor rights, the environment, young people or lgbtq rights.

That is the DNC's dream. To never have to ptetend to care about any of that anymore. I don't think they care about winning too much. Maybe just the presidency and nothing else, wouod feel ideal for them

[–] usernamesaredifficul@hexbear.net 12 points 2 years ago

I think they only really want to do insider trading. Their dream would be something like Irish politics where both major parties are exactly the same but corruptly work for different companies and do pork barrel politics to gain votes. This is frustrated by the fact that many republicans actually believe in things (terrible and wrong things) but actual political goals nonetheless

[–] UlyssesT@hexbear.net 27 points 2 years ago (1 children)

The liberal assumption is that what works for lmayo Burgerlanders works for pretty much everyone else: the next promised treat or suggested threat to the treats will make previous concerns disappear.

it’s so obvious from the outside that the Biden campaign is a sinking ship, but instead of grabbing a bucket and helping bail the water they take on, everyone around him either believes the water will go away, or that it doesn’t matter because Trump’s ship is sinking faster.

you’d think top Dems would have to be comatose to not recognise that they’re making mistake after mistake. and yet, this is completely in character for them. anyone in the party who learned something from the past 8 years has been actively suppressed.

2024 is going to be a shitshow.

[–] usernamesaredifficul@hexbear.net 23 points 2 years ago

head in the sand management. Biden has reminded Trump voters why they liked Trump in the first place and democrat voters why they're dissatisfied

[–] usernamesaredifficul@hexbear.net 19 points 2 years ago

assuming that israel will have stopped by then is optimistic

[–] LibsEatPoop@hexbear.net 15 points 2 years ago (2 children)

Honestly? They might not forget, but they won’t go vote for Trump either (unless they’re very pro-conservative and wanna ban immigration from possibly their own countries?)

They’re in a rock and a hard place and they might just choose to stay there/not vote for anyone.

[–] BurgerPunk@hexbear.net 15 points 2 years ago

they might just choose to stay there/not vote for anyone.

A Muslim group has organized to withhold votes - especially in swing districts from Biden/dems in '24 unless they change their stance on Gaza

[–] CatoPosting@hexbear.net 10 points 2 years ago

not vote for anyone

sicko-yes yes-hahaha-yes-l

[–] mayo_cider@hexbear.net 15 points 2 years ago (1 children)

I'll vote for Trump at least twice more just for this

[–] Poison_Ivy@hexbear.net 19 points 2 years ago (1 children)

How dare you, you should be voting for Hillary

Ive been voting for Hillary in every election since 2016 as a write in candidate.

[–] usernamesaredifficul@hexbear.net 10 points 2 years ago (1 children)

only since 2016? You should have wrote her in when Bill was running

If americans can forget about (at least) a million plague deaths (from a virus that's still spreading) they can forget about anything
