That doesn't look like a metroidvania in the slightest

Because it’s not a side-scroller?

Among other things, yes.

Edit: I can't believe this got downvoted. If your criteria for Metroidvania is non linear exploration with guided progression then fucking Dark Souls and Breath if the Wild are Metroidvanias. I will personally record myself laughing and send it to you if you try to say 'Dark Souls/Breath of the Wild are Metroidvanias.

If A Link to the Past could be considered a metroidvania (I don't) then I could see that. As a huge metroidvania fan, though, I would say this looks like an ARPG more than metroidvania based on the trailer.

On the other hand, Breath of the Wild is 3d and checks off the metroidvania boxes: sub-genre of action-adventure games focused on nonlinear exploration and guided progression with a need to acquire key items to enter certain areas.

I can't think of a single metroidvania where you can run immediately to the final boss and beat it without picking up anything. No the sheikah slate does not count. BotW is in no way a metroidvania. I would say Kloa is closer to BotW than any metroidvania is.
