Brian Becker, host of The Socialist Program, discusses the rapidly escalating U.S.-Israeli war on Iran and warns that Washington may have badly miscalculated, expecting Tehran to quickly capitulate rather than fight back. He argues that the conflict risks spiraling into a much wider regional, or even global, war, while highlighting the long history of U.S. intervention in Iran dating back to the 1953 CIA-backed coup.
“This is a major war,” explains Becker, “If you had asked people in 1913 — the year before World War I started, a war that took 20 million lives in four years — ‘Will there be a world war?’ Almost no one would have said yes. We can see that coming.”
