so yesterday kinda blew up at work and im still sittin here thinkin bout it because my stomach legit hurts thinking about how bad this might get. i work at this tiny car dealership in misouri like rly small team mb 9 people totalcounting the finance guy who plays candy crish all day. everyone knows everyones besiness whether u want to or not. my boss dave has been married 4ever... i think like 20 yrs or like that. his wife sometimes drops off cookies in one of those plastic walmart conrainers and says hi to everyone so yeah small town vibes
anyway last week dave pulls me aside and goes hey man small favor if anyone calls asking for me just say i stepped out with a client trying to close something big today and i dont want interruptions. sounded normal to me. people duck calls all the time here when they're working a sale
so yesterday afternoon phone rings im at the front desk eating those stupid peanut butter crackers from the vending machine and this woman asks for dave. i just do what he said. im like yeah he stepped out with a client about twenty minutes ago
she kinda pauses and goes a client?
im like yeah thats what he told me
then she asks what the clients name was and honestly i froze for a second because i realized he never gave me a name. i dont remember exactly what i said first i think i was like uh im not totally sure but i think it was jess? maybe jessica? she was here earlier and they left together to look at inventory across town or something like that

i didnt even think much about it. figured maybe it was just some customer checking on a deal or whatever
maybe five minutes later dave walks back in the office and he looks stressed like red face kinda pacing. first thing he asks me is did anyone call for me

he goes what did you tell her exactly
so i tell him basically what i just wrote here that i said he stepped out with a client and i think her name was jess or jessica something like that
he just stares at me for a second and then asks what the lady sounded like. i describe her voice best i can and hes just rubbing his face like full stress mode and finally goes dude that was my wife apparently jessica is not a client. jessica is someone hes been seeing on the side which i obviously did not know. his wife was suspicious about something and called the dealership to see if he was actually workin
so yeah by trying to cover for him i basically confirmed the whole thing
about an hour later he tells everyone he has a family emergency and leaves early. whole office feels weird now because in a place this small news travels fast and people already started asking me what happened
he hasnt texted me or anything yet but im pretty sure tomorrow is going to be extremely awkward
i swear i thought i was helping him with some boring client call thing and instead i might have accidentally blown up this guys entire marriage
