In a few days, I will be setting up my LG G3 with the latest tv (128gb with thread). I would like to buy the appropriate HDMI cable, but I am not familiar with the technical details. Can you please help me understand what to look for in a cable? Also, do you have any recommendations for a specific cable?

I would go for a HDMI 2.1 with 48Gbps speed. I think they're known as "Ultra High-Speed HDMI" cables. I just recently purchased one and use such an HDMI cable myself. Furthermore, Apple recommends that the HDMI cable should also be Dolby Vision compatible, which most 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 cables are. They come at various price points, Apple recommends this HDMI, but searching for 48Gbps, HDMI 2.1, and Dolby Vision in your region, should yield some cables for cheaper than the Apple recommended.

At minimum, get a certified premium high speed cable, and it should be good enough. Certified ultra high speed will work too, but not necessary.

This is what I use. You can never go wrong with these cables, and they have the bandwidth to support chroma 4:4:4 if you need it.

I recently bought the latest AppleTV 4K and was also concerned about which HDMI cable would be best.

Found several sources that said (basically) if you have a cable that produces a picture instead of a black screen, you’re good.

I ended up experimenting with one of the several HDMI cables I had lying around, and it worked beautifully (picture switching between formats depending on format of incoming stream, etc.).

Don’t sweat it.
