Anyone else not able to get past the loading screens?

The initial 7.9GB download froze for me & didn’t move for about 10 minutes, so I quit and reopened the app & it finished.

Then I could watch the RE7 video and choose settings but the “Loading…” screen with the typewriter just goes on forever.

I’ve tried deleting the app & all its data a couple of times, it finishes the 7.9GB download so fast I suspect it’s not actually downloading it (I’ve got gigabit so it should be fast but not that fast)… then it just sits at the Loading… screen more.

Gets your phone pretty hot. Thermal throttled and froze on me twice when I tried to change resolution. But overall I’m liking it. Looks absolutely stunning on my 15 pro max and it’s amazing that they even got the game running on here with this amount of graphical fidelity. In game it runs pretty smooth.

This is a fantastic achievement for Apple. Please remember this is only representative of the first games of the first wave of these types of apps on Apple platforms. There’s no doubt in the future Apple will optimize software and hardware and game devs will develop with Metal as a target audience.

Though that wasn’t the highest graphical setting a lot more would be possible if we had more ram. And plugging it in while playing helps with the heat slightly , a controller is must.

How much is it?

Pretty wild that just a year ago Macs were considered an absolute joke when it comes to AAA gaming. Curious how this turns out as it slowly creeps up on Macs and IPhones.

This happens every few years. Apple pays a developer to port their game to Mac, Apple users proclaim 'its the year of Mac gaming', then Apple doesnt change it's stance on API and no other developers follow.

Macs are still a joke for gaming. Apple has even lost Valve's Mac support recently, so it's not even trending in a positive direction.

I do have to say though, just the fact that I was able to comfortably complete a full playthrough of Baldur’s Gate III on my MacBook Pro amazes me. But yes for other games that aren’t native to Mac, it’s sad.

Pretty wild that just a year ago Macs were considered an absolute joke when it comes to AAA gaming.

In that time Valve has orchestrated compatibility with over 7000 games on Linux... Valve sold the Steam Deck at break-even to subsidize growth in the gaming market, while Apple waits for developers and consumers alike to subsidize their stock buybacks. Macs have all the potential, none of the momentum.

Technologically this is impressive. However, I'm surprised Apple has not done more to port more Indie-Games onto their devices as a strategy to build larger collection of fun affordable games across many genres?

[–] hishnash@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I think they are, most Indi games are using Unity or Unreal and are not pushing the envelope of HW like this one... but these AAA titles shipping (at full console prices) are important for showing that devs can charge real money... many devs do not consider porting as they assume they would need to make the game free to play full of ads for it to work on the AppStore if apple can show that people will pay real money then the market changes a lot for indie devs were the work is not much but they do not want to make the game a horrible mess of ads and in app purchases.

Have you seen mobile gaming!??

bcoz Indie Games do not make heads turn. When you say iphone can Resident Evil there will be articles, news headlines. no one gives a shit if they announce it can run spiritfarer or celeste

[–] Psittacula2@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yeah that's true about publicity. Still I think Indies over a period of time will create more sustained interest and a developer community of indies is really helpful too a variety of ways.

It didn’t look that amazing to me on the 15 Pro Max but for on a phone still very good.

[–] ConsiderationSalt937@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It really is amazing for a phone that fits in your pocket.

[–] TheMKB@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Played for 3ish hours and man it is awesome.

Playing on iPad Pro M1. It might just be me, but why do they not adjust the aspect ratio to fill the whole screen? I hate the black bars!

[–] xBITWxSwanny@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Yes! 12.9inch iPad Pro experience was terrible because of the black bars

[–] MawsonAntarctica@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Is it like a movie black bars on top and bottom? Like is it set for 1080p 16:9 display?

[–] curepure@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago (1 children)

can i play it on m1 macbook pro

[–] Mhugs05@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

From what I recall it's pretty bad performance. 30fps and medium to low settings. Below my playable threshold. Have to imagine the ios version has extremely low settings.

[–] hijoshh@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Woulda made Apple Arcade worth the price increase. Dumb its not apart of it

[–] SuperPoop@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Gimme an Apple TV with an M4, 2 TB SSD, with the ability to run this shit and I'm all in.

[–] TKYooH@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Still fucking crazy this game is on a phone. wtf.

[–] xdamm777@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

It’s cool to have this level of fidelity on a mobile device but not at a higher price than the PC/PS5 versions.

Also, RIP iPhone 15 batteries.

[–] skittles92@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

So since Universal purchase isn't supported , this will only work with ios/ipados devices then right?

[–] kosta554@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

Sadly no keyboard and mouse support.

[–] 3dio@alien.top 1 points 2 years ago

I've never been this impressed with an iOS game. Truly a breakthrough
