The people who don't care that food is getting unaffordable but freak out when gas goes up a few cents are always amusing.

[–] starman2112@sh.itjust.works 55 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's really important when you drive an SUV the size of an M1 Abrams and it gets 10 miles to the gallon

[–] hector@lemmy.today 12 points 3 weeks ago

Those tanks get gallons to the mile.

[–] KAtieTot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Petrol monkeys need gas to live.

[–] thespcicifcocean@lemmy.world 0 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

In the US, in most places, you need a car to get around because there is no reliable public transport

[–] KAtieTot@lemmy.blahaj.zone 2 points 3 weeks ago

I am painfully well aware. But that doesn't happen in a vacuum.

Gas going up will also make food go up even more now due to added costs of shipping.

[–] prettybunnys@piefed.social 7 points 3 weeks ago

When your car refuses to work without food but you can, and you need your car to get to the place that gives you money to buy the car (and hopefully you) food … it happens.

since the "extended preniums ended" the insurance jumped in cost several times for those on ACA.

I’ll wager a guess that person didn’t vote.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 69 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

I'll wager a guess that person voted Trump and said they didn't vote.

[–] HotDog7@lemmy.world 16 points 3 weeks ago (5 children)

Does anyone know what is up with this trend? I notice so many people starting with "I'm not political" and then get super political. I notice this paired with rogansphere references too.

[–] voidsignal@lemmy.world 38 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

It's the new "I'm not racist but"

[–] TexasDrunk@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

I'm not racist, but I do think peanut butter is delicious.

[–] Diplomjodler3@lemmy.world 28 points 3 weeks ago

Even the average MAGAtt knows that their views are not socially acceptable. So they'll pose as "centrist" or "not political" to avoid the pushback.

Apolitical people are chuds that want to get laid. Moderates are chuds who are mad that chuds are saying the quiet part out loud.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 13 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

"I'm not political" is an expression of privilege. It disingenuously pretends to be ideologically neutral, but it's not.

[–] NottaLottaOcelot@lemmy.ca 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

“I’m not political” usually translates to “I am wilfully ignorant of news and happenings”

[–] grue@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Which is only possible for those who can afford to be, because their privilege insulates them from the consequences.

[–] luciferofastora@feddit.org 1 points 3 weeks ago

Plenty of people do shit they can't afford. Idiots gonna idiot.

[–] prettybunnys@piefed.social 7 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Belief that your stance isn’t political is a lot like narcissism.

Idk if that helps.

[–] HotDog7@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] prettybunnys@piefed.social 9 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)

Narcissists tend to be incapable of understanding or accepting or acknowledging others have a view.

Folks who are “not political” just think “I’m normal” and being incapable of recognizing your beliefs are their own bias unto themself is pretty narcissistic as a behavior.

I’m not saying they are narcissists, but the behavior is awfully similar in this one regard.

Unless someone is truly just not involved in politics in any way and says they aren’t political insomuch as they aren’t involved. But the “I’m not political my ideas are just normal” is what I’m referring to.

Much like people who think they have no accent, race, or sexual orientation because they see theirs as the default

[–] prettybunnys@piefed.social 2 points 3 weeks ago

except for me, because mine is the default. Duh.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 3 weeks ago

alot of conservatives surprisingly dont, i have "new trump supporter" family member says he doesnt know much about his policies.

[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 23 points 3 weeks ago (3 children)

I got into it with someone claiming there is nothing wrong with being apolitical about a month back on asklemmy. I argued apolitical people abdicate their responsibility as citizens in a democracy and are a significant reason we’re in this mess. Ended up cutting off replying to them after a bunch of strawman bs back from them.

I hope that guy is having fun with the cost to fill up right now.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 6 points 3 weeks ago

"apolitical= conservatives that dont want to be called out of being a con"

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 1 points 3 weeks ago (1 children)
[–] NOT_RICK@lemmy.world 4 points 3 weeks ago

Well then I guess I’ll have to savor the knock on effect of increasing costs to transport all goods to be smug

[–] LwL@lemmy.world 1 points 3 weeks ago

Being apolitical to the point of not even voting implies being fine with whatever the outcome is*. So you don't get to complain. If you truly don't, then go ahead. But generally, people still do.

*and they wouldn't actually know the specifics, even if I'm not sure how it'd be possible to not at least notice that whatever the alternative, trump is probably worse

[–] But_my_mom_says_im_cool@lemmy.world 8 points 3 weeks ago (2 children)

People who say they’re not political in 2026 are actually trump supporters too cowardly to call themselves what they are

[–] luciferofastora@feddit.org 3 points 3 weeks ago

Nah, not all of them are. Some are just trying to avoid an argument in a place where that would reflect poorly on them, basically using it to shut down a conversation before it escalates. I know someone who's definitely left-leaning but doesn't want that in a public (non-lemmy) space they're moderating because it's a nightmare to do if you're working full time and trying to relax in your free time. They have no issue stating their convictions in a chatroom we're both in, but the most political they've gotten on said public platform was saying "If you voted red, get the fuck out".

And some are just genuinely fucking dumb.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 2 points 3 weeks ago* (last edited 3 weeks ago)

BECAUSE they know thier families/friends will give them the silent treatment or disown them if they mouthed off about politics. also reduces thier dating chances too.

[–] RememberTheApollo_@lemmy.world 6 points 3 weeks ago

Ain’t over yet. I wouldn’t be surprised if we had double in less than a month. Oh…and wait until we get fuel “taxed” when corporations add the rising fuel costs to the purchase price of goods.
