Not me, but it's important to remember that Lemmy doesn't just feed you an algo. You have to actually post things.

Nah, I'm just checking it more often, which is a sign I need to take some preventative corrections towards my mental health now that I think of it
Hey now, no need to call me out so hard lol
Not quieter, no, but the memes are all gone now. It's just "This is how fucked the world is" now. I miss the funny memes.
there's plenty of comics content posted across a range of communities...
Make sure you're following some fun stuff too. Otherwise it just gets depressing.
Personally I try to follow only fun stuff! Subscribed/Home feed for fun, All feed for doom and gloom.
Ooohhh smart
To be frank the overwhelming amount of trump news is starting to make me feel drained
I should post some art on the furry communities to cheer up the place
We don’t have enough small speciality communities yet unfortunately. Bring the furries and the cheer. I miss all the professional/trade subs. Don’t see many of them active on here.
I’ve noticed I spend less time on Lemmy than I did on Reddit. Some of that may have to do with content, but I think it’s mostly Lemmy isn’t manipulating what I’m looking at to keep the dopamine hits coming. It definitely feels like withdrawal at times.
I am learning to appreciate the joy of opening Lemmy after I checked it a few hours ago and not seeing anything new and having the freedom to close the app again.
Just like the good old days. Check facebook book for the party and bounce. Long before algos and built in games.
Yeah, it keeps me honest. If there’s nothing more to look at, I’m more apt to pick up a book or work on the side project more.
Absolutely this. I banned the big platforms from my phone and only use Fediverse apps now. When I opened Instagram it kinda felt like when I had a relapse and became flooded with sadness, rage and Weltschmerz. Here I check for a couple of minutes, still my conditioning to reach for scrolling and move on with my day.
And whenever I write a comment here I'm not scared to regret it soon after.
Good. Get off the internet and do anything else.x
Ahhhhh no I dont wanna touch grass.
The grass is lava.
(I've been procrastinating my writing project for like... months... probably a year... lol)
(Did you know, the outside world has monsters that will abduct people and eat them?
USA btw.... ICE... 👀)
Weirdly in my own personal experience, a lot of social media spaces have been quieter, with many people I know who used to be avid posters are now no longer posting at all.
For the fediverse specifically, there's definitely higher activity hours and low ones. Sometimes refreshing the feed has nothing new for like ~20 minutes, and sometimes its every time I refresh, which is kind of odd.
I post daily and have a fairly steady amount of up votes and comments. This time of year interaction dies down pretty noticeably. I used to think it was me and I was doing something wrong, but people are just doing spring stuff and not on here as much. They'll be back. There's a couple periods a year where it happens. It's just more noticeable here since we have less people.
I noticed it too with the upvotes on my content. A few weeks ago my predictions when I hit a certain mark of upvotes were pretty accurate, but now the amount of upvotes in the first 12h dropped notably.
Your mention of spring sound like a plausible reasoning to me.
I used to discuss it with the people on c/fedigrow because it would bum me out. I thought I had upset people somehow.
They reminded me of things like spring break from school and people doing family things and all that. I don't have kids or close family, so a lot of that kind of thing slips my mind that others have to do things in relation to that.
And once you see they do eventually come back, you get used to it.
I’ve seen a lot more pro violence posts and comments lately, which is pretty off putting. I’ve not posted several times because I don’t want to end up on a list because of some echo chambers of maladjusted people. I don’t comment that often to begin with, and lemme/piefed seems to attract people banned from other platforms and other weirdos. Just not a very welcoming platform.
Same. It was chill then suddenly about the last few weeks there is a lot of animosity on average posts.
There’s suddenly a lot more extreme views. Almost like ganging up to make people shrink or censor.
And finally a spike of relationship drama posts. They feel fake and fishy. Maybe bots.
Yeah, whoever is posting this pro violence content should get punched in the face
I’ve seen a lot of violence posts coming from non us users. It seems there’s some kind of effort to incite the us into violence going on and I don’t like it one bit.
Gotta build the community. This is not a bot driven Russian/american Propaganda machine. Its humans. A lot like forums from ye olden days, which were far better.
Real humans aren't posting click bait 2000 times a minute.
The problem is that I'm enjoying it and want to consume more than is there.
I might actually start posting instead of just commenting. It's horrible.
My experience is the opposite actually. I do browse All on Lemmy though just to be able to surface interesting stuff.
MY BAD, I'LL SPEAK A LITTLE LOUDER (:
... I need to post more lol
Yes, I noticed this too. Especially a few days ago it became quiet. Mostly news bots.
I feel like being bored on social media isn't a bad thing, I'm more in and out than I was on reddit and it doesn't consume as much of my time, but I still feel like the same mental itch of news and content is scratch, which for me is a good thing.
It happens from time to time. Post and comment more.
i think the users might actually be slightly increasing but the doomerism is dominating
I find myself scrolling here less because of all the doomerism and bad news. It’s just exhausting to be bombarded with it all day.
All redditors coming here
I have noticed a change. It seems to coincide with the lemmynsfw.com disappearing, but im not attributing it to that, or the timing. I seem to recall another server disappearing around then.
Has there been a reduction in active users?
I don't mind it being quiet, quite the opposite. Which is another reason why I’ve been filtering the heck out of the Fediverse since I’ve started using it (most of the content shared is mere noise to me).
That being said, I've noticed a somewhat reduced activity without having changed my filtering in any way. That's even more obvious in my small French part of the Fediverse. It just feels a tad quieter.
Is it losing users? Are people just learning to keep quiet? No idea.
It's not great, because I would like to see the Fediverse become a real alternative to those centralized services, even if that means I would have to filter out a lot more noise, but I'm also fine with the idea that the Fediverse may never succeed in becoming one such alternative. Like I’m fine with barely anyone reaching me through MP or through my personal blog anymore. This just seems to not be a thing anymore but it doesn’t prevent me from blogging or to participate in discussions around here ;)
It has been a few years already I have made up my mind that I needed to not rely on anything for my personal use (I'm not talking banks and key services like that, just online services, cloud, social medias, Uber or even my own blog for that matters, little things like that) or to not evcen need a computer at all to keep myself busy.
I don’t mind using them (at least those that do respect my privacy) but I also would not feel devastated if they were to vanish or, but that would obviously be a very unrealistic take, if a law was to pass making it mandatory to use my real name online (which is no secret, I have used it for many years, it’s just that I’ve grown used to being ‘Libb’), or one that would make it mandatory to prove I’m 18+ to be allowed to boot ‘my’ computer... Well, if something that absurd was to ever happen, I would simply stop bothering with those online services and would stop using my suddenly not so ‘personal’ computer anymore.
I would probably would keep using one for work (it’s not that obvious, as I already write longhand) but I would not spend a cent more on online services for my personal usage and would not buy any ‘personal’ device anymore.
But I digress. What was your question? Sure, I’ve noticed some quietness going on too. Maybe we should all try harder than we already do to post more? As an incentive? I doubt it would change much, to be perfectly honest.
Um…. No because today is he most replies I’ve received on the platform. I guess you get what you put in. :)
Not sure just joined I like the speed more than reddit.
People started yelling at each other more than on all the stuff I blocked on reddit, so I only check it every couple weeks now. I check back bc if it ends up 100% negative I'll delete it from my phone, but I still have hope ppl will be kinder
It's probably natural - unless some big site like Reddit shits its pants yet again, there's not going to be a major influx of new users. Even if something like that happens, parts of the fediverse are just a hard sell - relentless negativity, poor browsability and discoverability, trolling and bitchiness, and a lot of the content that's left is just... dull.
I'm bored out of my mind too, and even then hanging here is only occasionally worth it.
Looks like Lemmy lost 3.4% of MAU over the last week (Fediverse Activity Post). With severs jumping in and out it might feel more like 7-8%.
The devs seem happy with Lenny not growing and the numbers seem to indicate that Lemmy isn't growing unless brought on by an external source.
I honestly don't mind. Before this was the replacement go to site after the API fiasco elsewhere. Now I feel like coming on here only makes me sad and depressed; so I stopped coming on here even though I was mostly a lurker. I stopped getting any enjoyment from browsing the internet or my old internet hobbies.
I find the social media (piefed and mastodon) I use are busy enough to keep me entertained, not too busy to make me addictated.
Not sure about Lemmy, but I have noticed an influx in loops.video content recently, especially in my native language. That's probably because Loops is starting to be usable now. There's some YouTubers I already followed and even some local progressive politicians. This year a project named "digital day of independence" started, that educates people every month about how to switch from big tech, which probably also has something to do with it.
Mbin has "loud" subscribing, which notifies you on any post added to a community (or posted by a user). I don't know if Lemmy has something similar, but that really worked wonders for me in making the fediverse feel more alive.
