Obligatory this was not today.
So I am part of some amazing non profit and as part of that we host events. I have played many roles during these events and so never had a chance to watch the speakers. We often have our local and federal elected officials speak at these events. At our most recent event I was in charge of press. It was a smaller event so I thought I could not fuck up too bad.
I was wrong. I am backstage running around like a headless chicken.
I am trying to help a friend get speakers all backstage and ready for press interviews. We are looking for one of our speakers, he is an elected official that we were very lucky to have speak. Someone told me he was in the crowd to the left so I head off that direction. About halfway to the crowd I realize I don’t have a clue what this guy looks like.
My brain blanks. I then see a man and he looked remotely familiar. So I go up to him and ask. “Have you seen ____”
It is in that moment’ my friend comes up behind me and greets the man by name. The officials name. He was the bloody man I was looking for
He looks at me and introduces himself. I shake his hand in what imagined to be a smooth recovery but I am sure was not. The event went ok and he still spoke. Next time I am googling all the speakers faces first.
