Not sure calling the war illegal quite qualifies as "cozying up to".
"it's illegal, but we might join anyway" doesn't quite qualifies as "condemnation" either.
When did he say we might join?
He didn't. When asked he said he wouldn't rule out using the Canadian forces to defend Canadians in the area. Doing things like using special forces to evacuate embassies would fall under that umbrella.
The same way we totally weren't in Iraq, I'm sure! That is, with boots on the ground, senior officers embedded in the US Army directing brigades, commandering ships in the Persian Gulf, surveillance planes in the air, and intelligence ears wide open.
It is highly unlikely that we don't currently have troops embedded in the US military currently deployed. US/Canadian military is one of world's most integrated. And I'm sure you can guess who carries the weight.

Yeah but then he goes around saying we might send military personnel to assist the U.S. and Israel fight against Iran.

Carney is giving real “guy in the hot dog suit” vibes in these speeches lately.

He is doing a better job than most other leaders ever have.
That may be so but he set a high bar at Davos and it’s on him to meet it. I’m rooting for him.
And what "walking" was he supposed to do? Put boots on the ground to defend Iran?
Nothing Carney says or does can exist siloed into its own neat little vacuum, especially when it comes to Trump and the US. So while coming out guns blazing right from get go might have made you feel better, it would do absolutely nothing to help Iranians, and it would likely harm Canadians when Trump inevitability lashes out in return.
I would have preferred the opposite. His initial response was to support the US air strikes. I would have wanted a measured response supporting international norms and that he would commit to investigating the developments before taking an official position.

Well there's the biggest part of the blame going to the US for upheaving the status quo. There's part of the blame going to China for never really going along with that status quo in the first place . There's some obvious blame for Russia, as well as for just about every group involved in the eternal shitshow that is the middle east. There's some retroactive blame for Europe, who collectively had the economic power to not rely on the US for global stability, but never really got that ball rolling post WWII. Is there anyone else you were hinting at?
US allies (including Europe, but relevantly to this comm Canada) for pretending they care about international law yet going along with every instance of blatantly illegal and amoral US imperialism. Most recently, Carney is backing US strikes against Iran "with regret."
