After threatening to sever ties with Scouting America and kick the youth group off military bases worldwide, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Friday gave a six-month reprieve to the organization formerly known as the Boy Scouts of America.

Hegseth made the announcement in a video posted to X, framing it as an ultimatum to Scouting to conform to the Trump administration's anti-DEI agenda. He detailed his many criticisms of the group, saying Scouts had "lost their way" by changing the organization's name and "watering down" what he called "the focus on God as the ruler of the universe."

He accused the Scouts of promoting "an insidious, radical, woke ideology that is anti-America and anti-American."

Hegseth has the most fragile ego I’ve ever seen. He’s a baby. He has the smallest dick energy, it’s the human equivalent of a chihuahua.

[–] TachyonTele@piefed.social 23 points 1 month ago

Oh man you should see Gym Jordan on the daily. All he does is yap yap yap like a tiny mutt.

[–] WizardofFrobozz@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 month ago (3 children)

There is no one I’d rather see be beaten within an inch of his life on live television

[–] DistrictSIX@lemmy.zip 18 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Really? Have you not seen Stephen Miller? Ok, maybe for him we should go that final inch too.

[–] ickplant@lemmy.world 10 points 1 month ago

I do believe that for him, the beating will continue post-mortem. You know, double tap and all that.

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

thats a tough call.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago

Probably has a lot to do with why he's on his third wife and drinks.

It's really too bad they haven't found a way to safely augment penises. This might solve so many problems with people like this...

[–] bomberesque@lemmy.world 3 points 1 month ago

The most fragile ego? There's not someone you can think of with an even more fragile car of man baby syndrome?

[–] PragmaticFist@piefed.social 66 points 1 month ago (2 children)

Hegseth had demanded that the organization change its name back to Boy Scouts and remove some 200,000 young girls from its membership.

Claiming that "boys rule and girls drool," Hegseth, the petulant man-baby that he is, explained that "since girls have cooties, it's a travesty to allow gender mixing in the BOY Scouts!"

[–] Trainguyrom@reddthat.com 2 points 1 month ago

Gender mixing might cause boys to develope healthy relationships with women!

[–] UnityDevice@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 month ago

Remind me again why these people hate Iran? They seem to have more in common with the dead Ayatollah than anyone else.

[–] usernameunnecessary@lemmy.zip 59 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The kind of article you'd expect to read about dictatorships cut off from the rest of the world. This sort of talk sounds crazy even with North Korea's standards.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 14 points 1 month ago

dictatorships cut off from the rest of the world

Trump's people are working hard on that.

[–] texture@lemmy.world 56 points 1 month ago (3 children)

this is not a serious country

[–] Manjushri@piefed.social 25 points 1 month ago (3 children)

This is a deadly serious country. As in, they will kill you if you fail to live by their hate-filled ideology.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 16 points 1 month ago

Yep. These people squealed and continue to squeal about things like "political correctness". It turns out they want everyone to bow to THEIR political correctness.

This is something that was glaringly obvious even back in the 90s when they first started Karening out over everything that was "PC".

One other note - I've been reminded of this scene so many times in my lifetime. It's probably one of the most true things said about American culture. Even if so many wingers and reactionary centrists have taken issue with me pointing them at this scene. Jack's character really sees America here.

'Course, don't ever tell anybody that they're not free 'cause then they're gonna get real busy killin' and maimin' to prove to you that they are. Oh yeah, they're gonna talk to you, and talk to you, and talk to you about individual freedom, but they see a free individual, it's gonna scare 'em.

i'll recognize this alternative truth

Everything reads like something from The Onion. But the horror is, it’s not from The Onion.

[–] TrickDacy@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

Yeah, it could be from the onion if all their writers had brain damage.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

I can't even tell what's real anymore! Did Trump really forget that Queen Elizabeth is dead and say she should pardon her son? Did he really say we don't know where the sun goes at night? I honestly can't tell if these are real quotes or rumours started by satirical news sites

[–] AnchoriteMagus@lemmy.world 44 points 1 month ago

He then slapped the reporter, yelled "No tagbacks!", and ran up the ladder to his tree house. When the reporter tried to ask followup questions, Kegsbreath pulled the ladder up after himself and plugged his ears, screaming "No girls allowed!" until his mom brought him some dino nuggies.

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 40 points 1 month ago (3 children)

Scouting America is a private, non-profit organization.

[–] TachyonTele@piefed.social 15 points 1 month ago (1 children)

That doesn't mean anything to the people that want the entire government to be privately held

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 18 points 1 month ago (3 children)

My point was that Hegseth is threatening private organizations.

From reading other articles and pieces from people associated with Scouts, while they don't get any money from the government, that isn't to say they don't get perks.

$1/yr leases for public land, access to property/equipment, logistical support/medical staffing for the Jamboree, jet flyovers, etc that help them stretch their funds or provide things they would t be able to access without the government's support.

The Jamboree is a 10 day event this July, so all that staffing provided by the gov is probably a huge expense, and if Hegseth pulled all that now or in the future, they'd be screwed. So essentially, this is coercion to get what they want.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I think Scouting America should reverse any kind of concessions they made immediately after the Jamboree, and tell these monsters that they'll just wait them out, thank you very much, because the next Jamboree is in 2030.

[–] anon6789@lemmy.world 2 points 1 month ago

I'd say anyone not planning to get screwed by this administration is doing their people a disservice.

I am happy to see the Scouts give some push back. It frankly seems more than some leaders/countries are willing to do.

They want to treat them like a government contractor and put them on ~~super secret double probation~~, oops, I mean, they want to stop them from doing sooper dooper totally unlegal "DEI", which, in Orwellian fashion, they call "discrimination".

[–] RedWeasel@lemmy.world 28 points 1 month ago (1 children)

Aww, must get rid of the evileist of things, girls. /s

[–] totesmygoat@piefed.ca 5 points 1 month ago

He just wants them to go back to their roots. And align with the current administration. Allow the pedos back. Those kids are just there for the taking.

Nazi Pete what a snowflake

[–] kreskin@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Looks like Petey needs a juice box and a nap. He just really does not like girls, and likes to play dress-up. He has the mental development age of a 8 year old. He'd probably be happiest with a sandbox and a couple of tonka trucks-- and he'd play in it dressed up in a little smart looking suit.

[–] superkong47@lemmy.zip 14 points 1 month ago

If the Scouts have ANY kind of respect left for themselves as an organization they’ll tell dui hire kegsbreath exactly where to shove his ultimatum, these nazi fucks are out of fucking control, the time for peace is long passed..

[–] flop_leash_973@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago

The DOD focusing on the important things while it is currently bombing the civilians of another country I see. /s

[–] AlexLost@lemmy.world 12 points 1 month ago (1 children)

The Pentagon. The center of the war machine in america. Is worried about what kids do in scouts. While actively at war on several fronts. Glad they have their priorities straight. Wouldn't want to blow up an elementary school for example?

the focus on God as the ruler of the universe

I don't know what it is about this line or the mood I'm in, but... I'd like to buy some shiny bright red size 12 pumps so I can stomp my giant scary disgusting transfem foot on his idiot throat in style and teach him who really rules his universe.

[–] Salamanderwizard@lemmy.world 4 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

It's such a "nu-huh you didn't get me, I use a shield!" Type of energy. Like oh your god is the ruler? I guess I should bend down then.

Fucking hate it. Especially from heg. He's a cunt, and if there is a god I'm pretty sure they wouldn't want heg any where near them.

[–] TachyonTele@piefed.social 10 points 1 month ago

“watering down” what he called “the focus on God as the ruler of the universe.”

It's not a tree house with a "no girlz aloud" sign, but it's still a stupid made up reason.

[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 8 points 1 month ago* (last edited 1 month ago)

Department of Epstein is too busy blowing up girls schools and fishermen targeting countries that aren't protected by nukes to provide equality. Not surprising from someone who gets their morals from a book that promotes misogyny and slavery and genocide.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 8 points 1 month ago (2 children)

I wonder if this stupid Faux News host has ever even bothered to learn anything at all about the Scouts and their principles.

[–] I_Jedi@lemmy.today 2 points 1 month ago

I have received information from our sponsors that the Scouts' rules have changed. We now have one rule, and one rule only! Absolute and unquestioning loyalty to Donald J Trump! This goes double when he summons you to Mar a Lago for an interview.

So, speaking as a former boy scout, I never thought it was a great idea to take a bunch of co-ed potentially horny teenagers out camping in the woods, but shut the fuck up, Pete. This is not your job. Yes, historically boy scouts and girl scouts have been quite different and girls should get to do the things that boy scouts do, but I was a pretty horny teenager back in my boy scout days.

[–] Fondots@lemmy.world 1 points 1 month ago

My local council has a long-run ting exchange program with a Canadian council, where scouting is coed. Every 4 years we send a bunch of scouts up to camp and spend time with our Canadian counterparts, and then the next year they send a bunch down to do the same here.

I haven't looked into how they work it since they started allowing girls to participate, but back when I was in we had an arrangement with the local girl scout council for them to participate and host female Canadian scouts and to travel to Canada with us(and of course female venturers also participated)

The program has been going on for almost 60 years, and I've never heard of there being an issue. Girls and boys camp in separate areas but participate in activities as a single unit.

And that's much the same way Scouts America is operating now.

And on top of that

Venturing and sea scouts have also been coed for a long time.

There was always female camp staff at summer camp who were around our age.

I'm sure along the way some kids have taken the opportunity to do what horny teenagers have always done since time immemorial, but I think it's probably fair to assume that if not at scouts they probably would have found another time and place to do that anyway, not being in scouts certainly hasn't put a damper on that for a great many people over the years.

And of course, its 2026, gay scouts don't have to stay in the closet anymore.
