i used to use lemmy.sdf.org since I liked sdf.org, but it sadly isn't maintained that well. lemmy.today seems to have no instance blocks, have good stability and support for the old reddit style frontend
Ask Lemmy
A Fediverse community for open-ended, thought provoking questions
Rules: (interactive)
1) Be nice and; have fun
Doxxing, trolling, sealioning, racism, toxicity and dog-whistling are not welcomed in AskLemmy. Remember what your mother said: if you can't say something nice, don't say anything at all. In addition, the site-wide Lemmy.world terms of service also apply here. Please familiarize yourself with them
2) All posts must end with a '?'
This is sort of like Jeopardy. Please phrase all post titles in the form of a proper question ending with ?
3) No spam
Please do not flood the community with nonsense. Actual suspected spammers will be banned on site. No astroturfing.
4) NSFW is okay, within reason
Just remember to tag posts with either a content warning or a [NSFW] tag. Overtly sexual posts are not allowed, please direct them to either !asklemmyafterdark@lemmy.world or !asklemmynsfw@lemmynsfw.com.
NSFW comments should be restricted to posts tagged [NSFW].
5) This is not a support community.
It is not a place for 'how do I?', type questions.
If you have any questions regarding the site itself or would like to report a community, please direct them to Lemmy.world Support or email info@lemmy.world. For other questions check our partnered communities list, or use the search function.
6) No US Politics.
Please don't post about current US Politics. If you need to do this, try !politicaldiscussion@lemmy.world or !askusa@discuss.online
Reminder: The terms of service apply here too.

Smurf pie is the undisputed best ;)
Or maybe I liked Piefed features better than the previous I was using?
Heard pretty good things about Piefed, never have been able to try it out myself yet but it's on the list of things to try out.
It's easy to give it a try and decide if it's worth changing (I've done it and even though it's great to be able to do that, it's far from being complete and painless (one may not like losing all their previous posts/comments when changing instance).
I just checked I switched from Lemmy 9 months ago and and I've yet to find a reason to go see elsewhere. There things I don't like as much as others but they're easy to ignore ;)

The need for almost seamless posting between personal feed microblogging and Threadiverse exchanging, alongside text formatting features and large-enough max character limit. This is why I ended up sticking with Calckey.
Saw someone getting really bad tech tips, signed up to interject. Stuck around cause it's a cool name, suspect we may be defederated from some of the spicier instances, miss em but not enough to change right now
I wanted a place for the digital nomad and travel niche, so I made it. I'm hoping to have resources like maps, tips, and other things like blogs
check out the communities https://piefed.keyboardvagabond.com/communities?home_select=local
there's also [pixelfed](https://pixel/ fed.keyboardvagabobd.com) and mastodon, though it's been a bit harder to get them as full with content
Amazing to see system admins pop up, it's amazing to create your own instance that others can join and interact. In the future we plan on making PixelFed and Lemmy instances for certain use cases. I think the travel niche could really use the PixelFed system fairly well with how taking photos on your travels could be a helpful thing.
I also know there's some people posting on Loops.video travel things that might work for a future instance at some point.
More reliable than lemdro.id, European (low ping) and it isn't .ml or lemmygrad.
Instance??
The server you're on!
Like how you're on infosec.pub, the OP is on break3.social, the community (subreddit equivalent) is on lemmy.world, and I'm on pawb.social. :3

An instance is the 'server' your account is hosted on. So yours is infosec.pub
