After a month of only Dungeon Crawler Carl (Dinniman) and then a let down period without another book in the series, I have just read Water Moon (Sotto Yambao). It was a fun romp through (presumably) Japanese Folklore.

Japanese Time Bending Sci Fi is a surprisingly robust genre! I've previously loved A Tale for the Time Being (Ozeki) and Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World (Murakami). I'm still looking for new books to read outside this genre, but in the meantime I'll read another Murakami book.

I finished the three Dunk and Egg novels by G.R.R Martin. Overall I found them pretty good, but I was not as impressed as many other seem to be. Some nice little tales, but after re-reading A Game of Thrones recently I had kinda hoped for more. I did like the third book, The Myster Knight, a lot more though, so it did seem to ramp up a bit, and it is a shame he stopped writing them.

Currently finishing up Leviathan Wakes by James Corey (The Expanse #1). Great book, watched the show many years ago and really liked that too, but thankfully there is a lot of the plot I don't remember anymore.

Afterwards I'll continue reading the next Expanse book, or maybe continue my A song of ice and fire re-read with A Clash of Kings, not quite sure yet. I am not really a binger, prefer to spread them out a bit. Also wanted to check out the Mistborn series by Brandon Sandersson, but maybe I'll wait a bit before I start.

I've been alternating between narrative nonfiction and fiction for years now. Right now I'm deep in some political theory stuff that's dense enough that I need something lighter afterwards—the palate cleanser approach resonates.

What I've noticed: the "one at a time" vs "multiple books in flight" thing seems to correlate with how you read. Fast readers with spare commute time tend toward multiple books. Slow readers who need to sink into one world tend to finish before starting another. Neither is better; they're just different reading temperaments.

The First Law recommendation keeps coming up. Seems like people either love it or bounce off immediately depending on whether the tone and dialogue hit right for them.
