Me too, because I made a joke about "If he just hadn't missed" - a hate post about trump = perma bann for life. Fuck reddit, never been looking bad. Lemmy.world was actually a solid solution.
Reddit Was Fun
Memorial to "rif is fun for Reddit" Android app, aka "reddit is fun", shut down after June 30, 2023
Yeah happened to me. Got temp banned for trash talking, then went on an alt and then got perma'd. It is what it is but I spend much less time on there as a result. Win win?
If you weren't banned from r/pics were you even on Reddit?
I got banned for saying "If you see a Nazi, punch a Nazi."
I still read a couple of subreddits, but I don't miss being able to comment or vote there.
Good riddance to them.
My 13 year old account was permabanned years ago. I'm probably on my 40th Reddit account now.
I only use Reddit on desktop while at work (might as well get paid to use that garbage). I use the Brave browser and only use private windows. When I'm banned I reset the browser's settings, making sure everything gets cleared. I open up a new private window, create a new throwaway account on Outlook.com, use it to create a new Reddit account, then I'm back in until I get banned for trying to discuss my Constitutional rights or shit talk a Trump supporter, or whatever else Reddit bans you for these days. I even have a browser script that auto-adds all my subs from my previous account, so I don't lose them.
Now, I remember when my original account was banned, if I tried to create a new one on my phone and login using the 3rd party app I used to use, then it would be instabanned. So I'm not sure if they log phone's MAC addresses. But computers have MAC addresses too. So I don't know. All I know is this method has been working for me at work for years now. The accounts I create are good for weeks/months until I do one of the many, many things Reddit bot bans you for.
Reddit is a shit platform now and it operates under an unsustainable model that's going to continue driving people to other platforms, so its heyday is past. I wouldn't worry too much if you never use it again. I just use it to combat misinformation, shit talk loser conservatives (fascists), and promote Lemmy.
19 years hell I delete and recreate accounts all the time.
You should have left in 2023.
19 years.Sorry to hear that. Makes my 3 year account loss bearable. I could go back there but I made a Mastadon and a Bluesky and now a Lemmy.I did a reasonable job of protecting my home IP so I can make another account but I don't care to make the effort. The no private message thing was pretty vile and having to keep an ad blocker active made it bearable. Like a bird being cast out of the nest Its best sometimes to move on. 19 years of your data is enough. Sorry for your loss
Reddit bans are serious stuff. You don't wanna get around it anyways, not that you could. They are doing you a favor, really. Now you can just anonymously scroll, like me!
Reddit is also giving data on users who say things the administration doesn't like to the DoJ, so fuck them anyway.
I was the same. There was one sub I won't name where I made a comment against a celebrity (nothing bad, just making fun of her) and got banned.
I usually delete my Reddit accounts after a year just because I'm wary of how much info you can accidentally reveal about yourself.
Well, I'd made a new account and accidentally posted on the same sub which immediately got me a permanent ban for evasion.
My fault, but no real loss. For the last few years I rarely contribute and just use Reddit for info.
