Hey guys, I’ve been dwelling on getting myself a proper server lately

And so far Ive been having a tough time specing everything on a budget, and most importantly seeing if the things i chose make sense

But i keep coming back to the main question which is, the cpu

Xeon Gold 6138, what are we thinking?

Oh also, any cheap motherboards that go with this?

Im thinking dual cpu

What can i and can’t i host on this?

What is it you are trying to do with a server that you are trying to throw a xeon gold at rather than one of the lower end server chips?

how long is a piece of string because that's what we're being asked here.

Quite possible you could do a lot with with a much cheaper processor and associated items.

Perhaps look through the forum at all the times this same sort of question has been asked will give you some ideas and keep in mind that reddit isn't google.
