You come to a fork in the road. You see an old man sitting there. You know that one road leads to danger and the other road leads you safely to the city. You can only ask the man one question to determine whether he is the truthsayer or the liar. What do you ask him?

AnswerTell me when you find out. I think it's something like: "If this is the correct road, then you will accompany on it, will you not?"

If you need to determine which road is safe in one question, and you already know that he either always tells the truth or always lies, you can ask a compound question, such as: is one and only one of these statements true: the left path is safe and you are a liar?

Whether he is a liar or not, he will answer "yes" if the left path is safe and "no" if it is dangerous.
