It’s not just about the trade war. Nearly half of America’s neighbors to the north now think the U.S. is a bigger threat to world peace than Russia.

Honestly... all the USA "peacekeeping" was always by protecting their interests in oil.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world -2 points 2 hours ago* (last edited 2 hours ago) (1 children)

Nothing has actually changed between the people of the two nations, but Trump instinctively knows that he can divide people by creating conflict so he succeeded in getting America's stupid masses and Canada's stupid masses to start playing his tribalism games.

And ya'll on both sides of the fence are playing into the game willingly because you both feel righteous and better than the other because of the loud minority who are screaming the insults and taking it seriously.

Once again, we have the minority voice dictating the narrative for hundreds of millions of people.

There's no division: I also think the USA is currently a threat to world peace.

[–] Wilco@lemmy.zip 18 points 12 hours ago (1 children)

US citizen here ... the US is in fact a bigger threat than Russia. Our oligarchs are out of control and in dire need of a guillotine. Beware ... seriously ... beware. These people are fucking crazy.

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 7 points 2 hours ago

It’s not just who’s in power. It’s who put them in power and who decided not to even vote cuz they apathetically thought it’s not their job to give a shit about life apparently and prefer to watch the world burn.

These asshats are on a new level of crazy I’m ashamed to know exists in humanity.

[–] TerdFerguson@lemmy.world 13 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago) (1 children)

It’s because, as a culture, the place is chockablock full of highly dangerous morons that are totally out of control.

The country is led by a pedophile rapist murderer. That’s who they chose to rule them because they are that fucking stupid and crazy.

And sure half of them are like “Oh what can we do?” Nothing apparently, especially when you CANT ALLOW YOURSELF TO ACCEPT THAT ITS YOUR MESS TO FIX.

Fucking get your shit together

[–] Smoogs@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

And the “bOtH SidEs ArE tHe SaMe” crowd can take a proper punch to the head too right about now. In fact they are long over fucking due.

[–] TerdFerguson@lemmy.world 2 points 41 minutes ago

I mean, i get the argument that they are both beholden to the same billionaires.

But yeah only one of them would happily kill civilians for cash.

[–] kurmudgeon@lemmy.world 6 points 12 hours ago

As an American, I hate America even more.

[–] Shanmugha@lemmy.world 2 points 10 hours ago

Wakie-wakie, or how it is properly written

[–] rozodru@piefed.world 75 points 21 hours ago (6 children)

Canadian here. We find you annoying. Daily, multiple times a day, we're just slammed in the face with your bullshit. "What Trump is doing is illegal" or "Democrat Sen. says what Trump has done today is illegal" and then.....fuck all is done about it. Meanwhile we wake up this morning to see former Prince Andrew has been arrested and we kind of just throw our hands up like "ok...now your turn"

Again, another example FROM TODAY, Trump has taken 10bil from the US and put it into his "Board of Peace" essentially controlling his own personal slush fund. Right on queue Democrat Senators and Reps are saying "that's illegal!" ok...you going to do something about it THIS time? I'm still waiting on Ro Khanna to "draft up" those charges against Pam Bondi that he said he was going to do last December.

It's all talk and very little, if any, action from your leaders and it's annoying. And ALL of them are complicit in this including your favourites be it Bernie Sanders or AOC or Crockett. They all make sure they get a good sound bite or twitter post in and then....nothing, no follow through. another couple reps list off names from the files and then...nadda. One just straight up came out and said "Trump raped kids" soooooo where's that impeachment? arrest? no? nothing?

And the infuriating thing is your Republicans NOW know they can get away with it. Again look at how Bondi behaved. many Americans on here and on reddit were saying "she's acting that way cause she's scared" no she wasn't. she's was acting that way cause she knew she could get away with it.

And to TOP it all off you still have your fellow americans posting daily things like "I think we're the baddies now" or "we're starting to become fascist" or "I don't like America either". You just don't get it. You still have yet to accept the fact that you currently ARE a fascist country. you ARE the Nazi's. you ARE the enemy. Even this post "Hey guys look how much Canada doesn't like us NOW" now? NOW!? newsflash, we haven't liked you for a good long while. We've TOLERATED you. We've rolled our eyes at you for decades. Even the insulting posts people made of "We're sorry Canada". no, stop. That's like saying you chose to make a sandwich out of turds and puke instead of ham and cheese and then you gave the sandwich to the world and after we took a bite you said "oh, my bad, I shouldn't have done that huh?" It's like NONE of you get it until WELL after the fact and in many cases a lot of you STILL don't get it.

We don't want to hear your apologies anymore, we just want you to accept the fact that you're Nazi's, you're the bad guys and MAYBE you're going to consider fixing the mess you made. But as a Canadian who has had the unfortunate "pleasure" of living above you I know you're not going to. I know you might fix the current problem but a few years down the line we'll be right back at it again. I've lived through your Reagan and Bush years (multiple) you keep ramping up the worst you can be and I'm more scared of the person you elect AFTER Trump.

No, we don't like you, and many of us never have.

[–] FreshParsnip@lemmy.ca 1 points 18 minutes ago* (last edited 18 minutes ago)

I've been saying for a long time, it's like watching a crook invade a bunch of houses, steal everything, shoot people, and set fire to the houses while the police just stand there and confirm that this is illegal

[–] suddenlyme@lemmy.zip 6 points 8 hours ago

I wish I could double up vote this.

I'm also annoyed about all the time we spent listening to them go on about how 'free' they were.

[–] Strider@lemmy.world 7 points 9 hours ago

Yep. And we in Germany are just: well, what he said.

But also. You were so blinded from your world best country that you didn't and still don't see what's coming, otherwise there would long be riots already.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 4 points 11 hours ago* (last edited 6 hours ago) (1 children)

You think the senators and congressmen do little, wait until you find out what percentage of the public are actually doing anything meaningful.

The Democrats are the minority party. They have little power to do anything other than write strongly worded letters.

The constant attacks on the political opposition to fascism is something the fascists want.

Really how are the Democrats any different from the Liberal Party of Canada? They're both equally lame, both have problems with corruption, both have sleazeballs in them. The Democrats are a political party, it's weird people think they're going to put on a bandolier and a beret and become guerilla resistance fighters or whatever they're imagining things will be like.

But Americans are narcissists that believe themselves to be exceptional so they think the Democrats being kinda lame dorks is different from parties in other countries.

The problem is when Americans were given a choice between a fascist and a pretty normal political party, 2/3 of them either voted for the fascists or just didn't bother to vote at all. The American people just didn't care enough about democracy. It's likely too late to be expecting the democrats to fix things because they can't... not enough Americans voted for them.

Americans are narcissists and they'll blame anyone other than themselves for everything. Which is why they attack the Democrats instead of doing the obvious thing and attack the GOP and organize resistance to them. But that might include voting for the political opposition which would mean voting democrat which might be admitting they were wrong for not voting for them in the last election. And a narcissist can never admit they're wrong.

So the current state of things is Americans are blaming the party that's not in power for not stopping the party that is in power because their narcissism prevents them from admitting they made a mistake. Will Americans get over their narcissism before the next election and vote for the opposition because their government sucks? That's what would happen in a nromal country, but they're obsessed with being exceptional. Will there even be an election? Or will they somehow find a way to blame democrats for Trump cancelling elections, ending any kind of opposition to his power and completing their journey to becoming a full ledged fascist country?

[–] Randomgal@lemmy.ca 2 points 16 hours ago (1 children)

The Democrats are the same party. The billionaire party just comes in two flavors.

Wake the fuck up.

[–] JeeBaiChow@lemmy.world 2 points 11 hours ago

Funny. Didnt have the dems throwing ukraine under the bus, making a land grab in gaza or starting a war with iran on my bingo card...

[–] lechekaflan@lemmy.world 3 points 12 hours ago

Politico

Not helping matters, either.

[–] W3dd1e@lemmy.zip 3 points 12 hours ago* (last edited 12 hours ago)

I’m a US Citizen and I also currently think the US is a bigger threat to world peace. (Sorry Ukraine!)

[–] sad_detective_man@sopuli.xyz 11 points 17 hours ago* (last edited 17 hours ago)

Can't even blame you. Even if we suddenly fixed our crack head behavior one day then what? Are there still cultural forces that will lead us to just start stealing the wires out of the world's walls in 4 years? How long until until "somehow crackheads returned"?

It wasn't supposed to be like this. We were raised to be different from the dumb shit that came before. I wanted to be a good neighbor and build a future that didn't seem shitty to bring kids into.

[–] HexParte@lemmy.zip 91 points 1 day ago (3 children)

I think Americans also hate America this much.

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 42 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

They must, a non-zero number of them voted for a despot to destroy the country three times.

[–] metallic_substance@lemmy.world 3 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

I know your username is a reference to something, but I can't remember what. I tried googling it and all that comes up is posts by you. Am I going crazy or is it actually a reference?

[–] SnotFlickerman@lemmy.blahaj.zone 11 points 16 hours ago* (last edited 16 hours ago) (2 children)

In the podcast/television show Comedy Bang! Bang! there is a running joke that host Scott Aukerman is always misnamed. The names are things like Yacht Rockerman, Hot Saucerman, Shock Jockerman, Stop Clockerman, Shop Talkerman, Flip Flopperman, and so on. They generally rhyme with "Scott Aukerman."

Snot Flickerman is definitely inspired by the Aukerman nicknames, although it doesn't perfectly fit since Flickerman doesn't rhyme with Aukerman. However, in my own headcanon, Snot Flickerman is an animated, audacious television news anchor voiced by Tom Kenny.

I hope this illuminates my stupid fucking username.

[–] tpyo@lemmy.world 2 points 3 hours ago

Hey I'll use this comment; I totally wondered if it was a reference to CBB but there wasn't really a chance to ask without derailing

It's close enough to the gag that I caught it. You did well

[–] metallic_substance@lemmy.world 3 points 14 hours ago* (last edited 14 hours ago)

Oh of course! Thank you so much. I remember now seeing this around the time it came out, but haven't checked in on CBB in forever

[–] D_C@sh.itjust.works 12 points 20 hours ago (2 children)

Do they hate it enough to do something about the orange child rapist and the enablers that are causing all this?

[–] LincolnsDogFido@lemmy.zip 11 points 19 hours ago

Do I want to die? No.

Best I can do is wish them death and in the meantime voice my disapproval in peaceful protests and repeatedly demanding more of my representation AND fellow constituents when it comes to enforcing laws.

[–] Redvenom@retrolemmy.com 0 points 12 hours ago

I'm going to make a super snarky meme, that will teach him

[–] blattrules@lemmy.world 11 points 22 hours ago

As an American, I can confirm this.

[–] Aequitas@feddit.org 35 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Please try to avoid politico. It belongs to the right-wing conservative Springer publishing house (Axel Springer SE), which is trying to become a European Fox News.

American here.

Me too.

[–] BigBenis@lemmy.world 9 points 19 hours ago

As a US citizen myself, I can't blame them. I also hate this country.

[–] CptOblivius@lemmy.world 13 points 21 hours ago (1 children)

As an American I thought it would be much worse. 75% or more. We have been shitty neighbors. Seriously, threats, tariffs, insults, etc.

[–] NotSteve_@piefed.ca 3 points 13 hours ago* (last edited 13 hours ago)

It might just be Politico being the polling source since it's right-wing media company. In my anecdotal experience as a Canadian, not a single person I know across the political spectrum likes the US or Americans right now. It was a very strained relationship before 2016 but any resemblance of respect we had for the US is long gone at this point

Canadian here. Usians: make sure everyone you know understands that this is no joke. I live rural, I'm a socialist pinko but I live surrounded by rednecks, and we have conversations about insurgency on the regular. We have many, many Ukrainian refugees here.

[–] Protoknuckles@lemmy.world 8 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Yeah, save yourselves buddy. One day hopefully you can treat us like the fucked up ex-addict we hopefully will be.

Fake News! Your great President, ME! has been the most peaceful President in the HISATORY OF THE COUNTRY. 8 WARS SOLVED - TRUMP, MANY MORE PREVENTED -TRUMP. Even the winner of the last Noble Peace Prize says TRUMP should have won it. Lowest crime in 150 years. Strongest Boarder in HISTORY. I even won the NEWEST, MOST UP TO DATE PEACE PRIZE. None of this would have happened under CROOKED JOE BIDEN, the worst and MOST CORRUPT President ever. The FCC should look into this ENTIRELY CORRUPT and BIASED FAKE NEWS organization. Thank you for your attention to this matter, President Donald J. Trump

[–] kescusay@lemmy.world 12 points 1 day ago

Dare I ask... Is that real?

Ugh. I hate what we've become.

[–] FaceDeer@fedia.io 6 points 23 hours ago

That evaluation is partly due to the rapid increase in the threat that America poses to world peace, and party due to Russia being revealed to be depending on Ladas and donkeys for logistics in Ukraine.

[–] My_IFAKs___gone@lemmy.world 2 points 20 hours ago (1 children)

How willing is CA to take US refugees if they're willing to swear allegiance to CA?

I can think of a few people I know in the US who would love to emigrate to Canada to escape the political spiral wrought by this administration, but it seems like Canada isn't all that willing to make it easy for them.

[–] ShawiniganHandshake@sh.itjust.works 2 points 25 minutes ago

The chances of an American making a successful refugee claim in Canada are vanishingly small. Things would have to get a lot worse in the US for this to be a realistic outcome.

However, Americans can apply for permanent residency in Canada, just like anyone else. There is a points system. You're more likely to be accepted if you're young, you have an advanced degree, you speak both French and English, etc.
