No more borders ! No more nation states !

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 4 points 1 day ago

I am so sick of the open borders boogeyman I have turned into a radical open borders maniac. I will become the stupid strawman that they have erected!

Open the borders in all of America now motherfuckers. Stop restricting the flow of people. It is a human rights violation to fuckup their countries and then force the people to stay there. Literally the only way to solve this is with open fucking borders.

Anything less than this is an admission that we are the oppressors for all of America.

i'm not saying open borders.

i'm saying no borders.

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 2 points 17 hours ago (1 children)

The entire earth belongs to everyone. It's madness to close one section of it off and say that nobody else can ever go there without your permission.

and no states.

and no police or prison.

I thought these are supposed to be wrong??

As a rule of thumb any meme format will always be used to convey the opposite message

[–] UnrepententProcrastinator@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Not wrong, more like simple minded. Open borders is a bad idea on things like security. If you think people are all nice and good and wouldn't abuse open borders, I don't know what to tell you.

You need a process for immigration that is helpful but ooen borders is dumb as fuck.

looks at EU thats a lot of countries that allow citizens moving freely through them. Strange how it works so well.

To be clear the issue isn't only the people coming not being integrated correctly but also the abuse of migrants fleeing desperate situations by people within the hosting country.

[–] piccolo@sh.itjust.works 1 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

The exploitarion largely stems those migrants not being 'citizens' so do not execrise the same rights. And they cant speak up without threat of deportation. It only drives the point borders enforce exploitation.

[–] UnrepententProcrastinator@lemmy.ca 1 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That would be convenient for your point but at this juncture I'd recommend you look it up if you really care because I have no willingness to carry on with this discussion.

I'm not the one to make the original claim. So instead asking me to back up mine, you back up yours first. Should be easy right?

[–] whotookkarl@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 1 day ago

It's dumb to think you can close 12,000 miles of borders, and even dumber to pretend freedom of movement isn't a right everyone, not just the wealth class, has.

[–] Lodespawn@aussie.zone 17 points 2 days ago (2 children)

"Immigration and Customs Enforcement" doesn't really sound like border enforcement is part of their remit, more sounds like they should be making sure people DO immigrate to the US, or more realistically ensuring people follow the correct processes to immigrate.

[–] Quetzalcutlass@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago)

Their predecessor, Immigration and Naturalization Services, was split up after 9/11 with the creation of Homeland Security. ICE was established as the immigration law enforcement division, and Customs and Border Patrol as another, somehow worse enforcement division. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) is the department that actually handles legal immigration.

[–] PunnyName@lemmy.world 9 points 2 days ago

Sadly, not how it's going. Especially with dead and / or arrested citizens.

[–] amikulo@slrpnk.net 13 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It really felt like flipping a switch similar to when I left Catholicism. Once I started questioning borders, I very quickly got to the point of being utterly baffled that people buy into the idea of borders at all.

yeah, the cult i left was similarly all-encompassing. you look at the world and say "why the fuck are we drawing lines"

[–] Zink@programming.dev 5 points 2 days ago

I think it's only a question of WHEN the population decline in the developed world affects economies enough that countries offer immigrants incentives and actively recruit people to move there.

[–] SystemL@literature.cafe 5 points 2 days ago (2 children)

Legitimately asking here,

Would this mean you'd like anyone to come into America without going through a process? Like just allowing the people to walk in and out?

Or is it you want to reform the border?

[–] OwOarchist@pawb.social 1 points 16 hours ago

Would this mean you’d like anyone to come into America without going through a process? Like just allowing the people to walk in and out?

Yes.

What are you so afraid of?

[–] BennyTheExplorer@lemmy.world 4 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Yeah, I am sorry, but I struggle to see the real harm in abolishing borders.

And please don't say crime. Americans, that have lived there before do just as many of them as immigrants (normalized for income) and pretending otherwise would be delusional and racist.

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 2 points 1 day ago

Crime mainly flows out of the US not into it. US citizens are some of the worst reactionary criminal hate filled losers on the planet. If we needed borders it would be to keep Americans out of other countries for their safety.

[–] BillyClark@piefed.social 3 points 2 days ago

I don't advocate open borders as a final solution, but it would probably be better than what the federal government is doing today. And it would be better than letting ICE continue.
