Herring almost got me but after eliminating the "sauce" category there were words related to reading that were mixed with both perusing a book and speeding through it, and nothing quite fit fully. With Bombay not connecting to anything else and missus not really either, I found purple and the rest fell in place

Different types of computer drives: floppy, flash, zip, and then thumb was another name for a USB drive

I somehow searched for disk as in floppy disk and found nothing that fit with that. The sus thing about this herring is that only zip is not a physical drive and thumb with flash would refer to the same thing while others don't.

The thumb and flash being similar is a clue that it probably isn't the category, although flash drives are more generally any type of drive with flash memory that connects through USB, and thumb drives are mostly referring to those small USB sticks. But zip is a physical drive (a separate thing from a zip file). It was only around for a few years in a sort of awkward limbo between floppies and CDs

Green was the trickiest for me today (had the right theory and accidentally "cheated" with a dictionary). I'd switch green and blue in difficulty, but other than that pretty straightforward.

Green is quite a satisfying group and i don't mind not having gotten it. I was trying different "duck" dishes.
Purple is the typical "american slang that i don't understand" group that we hate on this side of the atlantic

Except for maybe "miss", the other 3 are words for not just duds, but also for movies that perform poorly. Bomb and bust are mostly for financial failures as well. What words do you use for failed films?

What words do you use for failed films
Mostly just "crap, sh*t," and "lackustre," since a film bombing in cinemas isn't necessarily indicative of it being a bad film. I don't hear anyone say that over here.
'Went bust' is used but for businesses - a film is a product rather than a business so it feels a bit weird to say it went bust. If i was describing something not meeting box office targets I'd say 'it didn't break even' or 'it barely broke even' or 'made less profit than expected' (3 levels of poor performance there)
Dud is specifically for a failed manufactured product like a bomb or another weapon.
'It was a miss' is definitely not used, i thought millenials coined that phrase
I wouldn't say purple was particularly bad this time in that regard.

For me Bombay and missus didn't really fit with anything. Bombay was the hook that helped me sift through leftovers. Being the only place name it suggested to look at word parts or changing letters.
