But that's murder! If there's one crime I thought could always rely on to be punished, it's murder

[–] Sam_Bass@lemmy.world 1 points 4 minutes ago

Yeah Texas is full of trumpers top to bottom. Those of us with actual brains have to fly low or risk decapitation by the jihadi emulators behind the badges

[–] Keener@lemmy.zip 5 points 1 hour ago

This is fucking insanity

[–] SaharaMaleikuhm@feddit.org 6 points 1 hour ago

No justice no peace

[–] zr0@lemmy.dbzer0.com 15 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Mhm, an accident. You don’t accidentally:

  • load a gun
  • pick the gun up
  • disengage the safety
  • point the gun at a person
  • put the finger on the trigger

The trigger can be very sensitive and you can accidentally shoot a gun. After all other safety precautions have been purposefully violated

The justice system in the US is quite unjust.

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 hours ago

I'm surprised they didn't return on "negligence causing death" or so. The bar is lower.

But he was a red-stater, so maybe that's ...okay, now?

[–] corsicanguppy@lemmy.ca 7 points 3 hours ago

That guy's neighbours need to chip-in for a billboard. Just with her face.

Okay. Maybe a "no justice no peace" in small print.

What is that title? "Man who shot British woman"?? Isn't it a lot more interesting to say "Man who shot his own daughter"? Their relationship seems far more interesting and relevant to the situation than her country of origin, wtf is this journalism? Or am I missing something?

[–] avav2y1rs@lemmy.world 4 points 1 hour ago (1 children)

Because a) It's now an international incident, and b) the source is BBC.

[–] avav2y1rs@lemmy.world -1 points 1 hour ago

Ah, I see part of the issue. OP is a butt for removing the familial link in their title. The BBC headline is more accurate.

[–] Snowclone@lemmy.world 4 points 3 hours ago

they gotta soften it SOMEHOW!

Let's see if I got this right. He gets into an argument with his daughter where he says he doesn't care if Donald Trump were to rape her because he has two more daughters. There is obviously no coming back from thinking let alone saying such a thing.

The next day he downs a bottle of wine and invites his daughter to his room right before she leaves back to England. In the room he claims she says she wants to see his handgun. As he pulls it out of the drawer and it just happens to go off and also just happens to be aimed right at her.

Yeah, dude couldn't let her live after what he had told her, it is pretty obvious. He tricks her to coming into his room where there is no witness and silences her forever.

[–] susi7802@sopuli.xyz 2 points 4 hours ago

You couldn’t make this shit up

[–] blattrules@lemmy.world 19 points 9 hours ago

Have they at least taken his guns away since he’s clearly not responsible enough to own them? Oh wait, I forgot it was Texas for a second.

[–] Jumbie@lemmy.zip 146 points 13 hours ago

Shit headline. A trumper murdered his own daughter after an argument about Trump. He then claimed “accident.”

He got away with it.

[–] EgoNo4@lemmy.world 95 points 12 hours ago (6 children)

Could someone please explain to me how the fuck do you kill someone, even if it's manslaughter, and not get tried over it?

[–] whyNotSquirrel@sh.itjust.works 6 points 3 hours ago (1 children)

Because it's okay, he still has 2 more daughters 👍

[–] INHALE_VEGETABLES@aussie.zone 1 points 2 hours ago

To be fair you only really need one.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 29 points 9 hours ago* (last edited 3 hours ago)

Grand jury, not regular jury, which likely consists of rich white men that's a holdover from Jim crow. Prosecutors who agree with the defendent and intentionally try for charges they know won't stay. Texas.

[–] TheRealKuni@piefed.social 84 points 12 hours ago

It was an honor killing because she spoke against the Dear Leader. That’s legal in Texas, haven’t you heard?

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 10 points 10 hours ago

Since the Kirk shooting there has been a violent eruption of “we are done with you”, right to left. We are not to be discussed or argued with henceforth, only removed, by whatever means.

This is the rhetoric. Clearly, it is more than rhetoric.

[–] EgoNo4@lemmy.world 17 points 12 hours ago (2 children)

No, I'm serious, please eli5... Where I'm from, murder + suspect = a trial...

[–] TribblesBestFriend@startrek.website 29 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

I think the grand jury rule it an accidental discharge (because it’s Texas) and it’s how you kill somebody without being held accountable

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 29 points 11 hours ago (2 children)

That would still qualify as manslaughter.

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 4 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

If the prosecutor tries you for the wrong charge they're usually not allowed to try again with a lesser charge

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 3 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

They can if this never got past the grand jury.

[–] arrow74@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 hours ago

It's extremely uncommon for them to try, but Trump is normalizing it

[–] krashmo@lemmy.world 12 points 9 hours ago (1 children)

I'm a man and I'm not laughing.

You don't have to say it, I was already leaving.

[–] Tm12@lemmy.ca 8 points 9 hours ago

Took me too long but come back so I can tell you to get outta here.

[–] otp@sh.itjust.works 19 points 10 hours ago

That's insane. Sure, an accidental discharge is an accident. Whatever.

Pointing the gun in the direction that an accidental discharge would kill somebody is a guilty act.

And having the gun loaded should be, too.

[–] SARGE@startrek.website 6 points 11 hours ago

For the same reason that half the MAGAts in government that we have crimes + named suspects with mountains of evidence, and still no trial.

The same reason donld Trump incited a crowd of people, on camera, to go try and overthrow the government on a cold January morning 6 years ago, and despite people dying and people being murdered in the attempt, the person we have on camera starting it is now the goddamn president instead of in a cell or pine box.

We have no justice system. It only ever existed for whichever out group is being targeted. The rich and influential don't exist in those groups and instead of trying to hide that like they used to, nowadays they just openly flaunt it.

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 0 points 6 hours ago

the lightest charge, wrongful death, is civil. not criminal
