We're doing nothing different than any other Saturday. I've historically have more negative feelings about the day than positive. I'm not sure I can remember if my partner ever cared for it. I'm sure that years ago we did something special... right? πŸ˜…

When the younger kids mentioned today, my partner was pretty quick to downplay it's importance while then focusing on how we should be treating each other in the day-to-day, which often isn't always so kind. So perhaps we could do a bit better with how we express our love when a sibling gets on our nerves. 😁

Saturday is "special breakfast" day, so today was no different in that regard. My partner does most of the cooking, so I made sure to do that this morning.

We definitely consumed much more calories than normal today. πŸ™ƒ

My wife managed to get an appointment for an MRI on Saturday morning, so we'll be driving into the city for that on Valentine's Day.

She'll be in there, and I'll be sitting in the car with the service-dog-in-training, Leo. Someday I would expect him to go in with her, but he's not ready yet.

Then we'll come home and she'll fall asleep while I watch movies.

She did manage to do some baking for Valentine's Day.

Also, service dog tax:

Cute. πŸ’œ

Those baked goods look incredible! Tell your wife she can bake for me anytime

Suffering soggy confetti overload (the southern Germans take their carnaval/Fastnacht very seriously).

Please do share more.

Not a whole lot. Neither me nor my GF care that much about it, so it's just another Saturday.

Well, Imma wash my car, which is kind of unusual for me on a Saturday, but that's about it.

UPDATE: My car actually looks metallic black again now. Before that it looked like I had driven 1000km through ice, smog, and snow. Mostly because I yesterday got home after driving 1000km though ice, smog, and snow.

legitimately same here. was hoping we'd wake up magically feeling better, we had a nice day planned, but no dice.

Great.. I am going to continue my replay of Horizon Zero Dawn and later shovel some ice off my walk ways.

After that whiskey and coke while watching lacrosse.

Also I may go wish shopping for a new laptop.

I'm building a dating app. (yes, seriously)

[–] CosmicGoat@lemmy.ca 2 points 3 hours ago

If you're open to sharing, I'm curious what you're going to be doing different with your app so that it stands apart from others?

In my household, we don't do valentine's. Instead we celebrate pancake day, it's tastier. Husband even designs a pancake day card it's seriously so cute. I have all the ingredients to make pancakes at home so we don't need to go out and buy shit that we don't need. I've grown tired of the forced celebration calendar, corporations are seriously taking the piss. Next one's Easter and I will certainly not partake. I've seen Easter eggs in shops in early January, and chocolate isn't even good anymore!

Plus if you love someone you celebrate them every day, not once a year.

Ooh pancakes, good idea! Or maybe waffles, I haven't done those in a long time. Time to hunt for a recipe...

[–] matelt@feddit.uk 2 points 6 hours ago

May your waffles be crunchy outside and fluffy inside!

Breaking up from my wife of 20+ years as of today because she never does anything wrong and when I suggested that maybe that's not always true (because she let something I made get destroyed by not reassessing that it was safe from the dog when nobody was around) I am in the bad books and she is explaining to our 7 year old daughter why she's not going to be coming to our family gathering tomorrow and that she may be only seeing each of us on a week on-week off basis like her friend has to do. Which I'll be honest, was a bit of a shit thing to say to her and make her worried when it might not even happen.

Hope everyone has a better one than I am. Even those who are alone.

Will be playing games with a friend I haven't talked to in a while. Other than that, it's just going to be a regular Saturday for me.

I'm going to the gym, do some swimming for my back, then I'll take a sauna and a cold shower right after (love the hot-cold shock).

After that I'll get back home watch the winter olympics and forget (again) that today it's just a normal day that someone decided to turn into a pointless "holiday" to make me spend money.

It's going to be a pretty normal saturday tbf.

[–] LadyButterfly@piefed.blahaj.zone 3 points 7 hours ago (1 children)

What Olympics are you gonna watch? I'm watching hockey right now

[–] AbsolutelyNotAVelociraptor@piefed.social 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

I'm watching hockey, skeleton and jumps right now! HboMAX allows for multiview on the single screen so you can follow several sports together (with commentary on a single sport).

I'm also jumping on and off to curling, that has been a real surprise for me.

[–] LadyButterfly@piefed.blahaj.zone 2 points 4 hours ago (1 children)

There's a few people here have said the same thing about curling! It's clearly surprisingly good

The italian couple that played during the mixed doubles (they got bronze in the end) made me start following it. I knew the sport but I never found a reason or a moment to follow it. Now? Eh... I think I'm a fan!

I already knew ice hockey so I was already following the games at the olympics, but curling? Yeah, the biggest surprise.

However, I think this year, the winter olympics are getting way more attention than other years. Dunno why, but looks like it's the first time that people are really interested on them! And that's great! It always looked like the winter sports were just second-class disciplines.
