This is true - After they fired him, and told him to take a commercial flight home, this happened:

The personnel action was reversed, though, when it was determined that no other pilot was immediately available to operate the aircraft for the return flight.

A DHS spokeswoman did not address the specific episode but said Kristi Noem has made personnel decisions intended “to deliver excellence.”

So they fired the guy, kicked him out, and then had to go get him back because these geniuses had forgotten that someone still had to fly them home.

Can you imagine that guy, stalking through the airport toward the Southwest desk to buy a ticket home with his own money, muttering angrily under his breath, when a bunch of ICE Apes roll up on him, and demand he return.

That's why they are doing all this! They are taking Noem to the gravel pit, and once she is dispatched to that farm Upstate, the rest of MAGA will say "See! She was the problem all along. Let's Deport some more brown folks!"
