Because lawmakers got a bit out of hand lately.
World News
A community for discussing events around the World
Rules:
-
Rule 1: posts have the following requirements:
- Post news articles only
- Video links are NOT articles and will be removed.
- Title must match the article headline
- Not United States Internal News
- Recent (Past 30 Days)
- Screenshots/links to other social media sites (Twitter/X/Facebook/Youtube/reddit, etc.) are explicitly forbidden, as are link shorteners.
-
Rule 2: Do not copy the entire article into your post. The key points in 1-2 paragraphs is allowed (even encouraged!), but large segments of articles posted in the body will result in the post being removed. If you have to stop and think "Is this fair use?", it probably isn't. Archive links, especially the ones created on link submission, are absolutely allowed but those that avoid paywalls are not.
-
Rule 3: Opinions articles, or Articles based on misinformation/propaganda may be removed.
-
Rule 4: Posts or comments that are homophobic, transphobic, racist, sexist, anti-religious, or ableist will be removed. “Ironic” prejudice is just prejudiced.
-
Posts and comments must abide by the lemmy.world terms of service UPDATED AS OF OCTOBER 19 2025
-
Rule 5: Keep it civil. It's OK to say the subject of an article is behaving like a (pejorative, pejorative). It's NOT OK to say another USER is (pejorative). Strong language is fine, just not directed at other members. Engage in good-faith and with respect! This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban.
Similarly, if you see posts along these lines, do not engage. Report them, block them, and live a happier life than they do. We see too many slapfights that boil down to "Mom! He's bugging me!" and "I'm not touching you!" Going forward, slapfights will result in removed comments and temp bans to cool off.
-
Rule 6: Memes, spam, other low effort posting, reposts, misinformation, advocating violence, off-topic, trolling, offensive, regarding the moderators or meta in content may be removed at any time.
-
Rule 7: We didn't USED to need a rule about how many posts one could make in a day, then someone posted NINETEEN articles in a single day. Not comments, FULL ARTICLES. If you're posting more than say, 10 or so, consider going outside and touching grass. We reserve the right to limit over-posting so a single user does not dominate the front page.
We ask that the users report any comment or post that violate the rules, to use critical thinking when reading, posting or commenting. Users that post off-topic spam, advocate violence, have multiple comments or posts removed, weaponize reports or violate the code of conduct will be banned.
All posts and comments will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis. This means that some content that violates the rules may be allowed, while other content that does not violate the rules may be removed. The moderators retain the right to remove any content and ban users.

"People should not be afraid of their governments. Governments should be afraid of their people."
Fear leads people to do stupid evil shit
If the people are afraid or angry, that is a MAJOR failure of the government. Do you know how hard it is to piss off a person that has food, shelter, and some level of leisure? The government better get their shit together or it’s going to get a whole lot worse.
Stupid is good. Stupid can be exploited. Evil is unfortunate, but part of the human condition. We must destroy it, by taking advantage of it whenever it tries to do stupid evil shit. If they do stupid evil shit (and they probably will) we will destroy them. There is no other option. Appeasement does not work. Tolerance does not work. Concessions do not work. When it comes to evil, only total victory is worth pursuing. I am a militant pacifist, I will fight all evil until we can have some peace from it. But evil is eternal, and the cost of freedom and peace is eternal vigilance.
If the approach is just "look for evil people and then destroy them", or "if politicians piss the people off, and they'll come for their head", it's likely to produce more evil through the fear that it creates. A good political system is predictable – politicians should know that if they do evil (clearly defined in law), it will become public, and it will have consequences (again, clearly defined in law). This should also apply to all powerful people, not just politicians.
At the end of the day, the goal is to control and counteract certain ambitions, not to create fear.
They shouldn’t have a moment of tranquility outside of their homes, and if they can’t have a moment of tranquility in their homes, meh. Fuck ‘em. Let them quit their jobs.
Maybe stop sucking that corporate dick and start representing your constituents?
Most of them are rich-- they were born with dicks in their mouths, I dont think many of them even know its there. They just know they do whatever their donors and the zionists tell them to do. Its like gravity.
See, I'm a humanist, I believe they could all do better. They're garbage people who deserve this and more.
Well, yeah. They didn't fear us, so they leaned into corruption. Now they realize that they've gone too far, and they'll be LUCKY to only get a long prison sentence, and that will be in the best of circumstances. If things get really ugly, they'll wish for a long drop at the end of a rope.
When the people start going hungry, the rich and powerful inevitably end up on the menu.
Unfortunately these statistics include lawmakers that are standing up to the powerful.
I imagine a lot of this violence is directed towards those who oppose the powerful, rather than those who are in support of them / already powerful. Powerful people don't care as much about illegal intimidation and violence.
For example, all the death threats directed at doctors and lawmakers during the pandemic
Which menu?
Chef special menu
A chef armed with a very sharp knife.
I see no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot.
I mean they either listen to our legal system, or they'll face street justice. It's that simple and all they have to do is choose, and it seems like they're choosing the latter.
It didn't have to be this way - the wealthy chose this option. This is on them.
Good.
Not enough.
Online violence?
Cough bullshit cough.
Easy solution: Disable replies and keep your private and buisness live seperated.
But as the study data shows most politicians are over 50 and likely don't even know how to open a PDF...
You think a 50 year old can't open a pdf? Are you 12?
They're bringing it upon themselves.
They'd better be on their best behavior then, eh?
We should really be setting up guillotines outside of political events. Just for show of course! All in good fun!
A fun one like this?
