Kristi Noem riled up White House officials by referring to meetings she led at the Department of Homeland Security as “cabinet meetings,” according to a report.

Noem, dubbed “Ice Barbie” for her love of cosplaying in uniform roles, seemed to be playing presidential dress-up by referring to internal DHS meetings with subagency heads by the same name as high-level gatherings between the commander-in-chief and top Cabinet officials.

Donald Trump’s aides viewed Noem’s labeling of her DHS get-togethers as meetings of her “cabinet” as a troubling sign that the homeland security secretary was more focused on her own presidential ambitions than on advancing the administration’s message, sources told The Wall Street Journal.

Trump was also reportedly “annoyed” after Noem set aside $200 million from the department’s budget to fund an ad campaign—in which she herself starred—warning immigrants in the country illegally to “leave now.”

The president asked White House staff where Noem had secured the funding for the ads, with insiders telling the Journal they believed the campaign was another signal she was laying the groundwork for a future presidential run.

lol, "The country voted for a corrupt, racist pedophile over a woman twice, but maybe they'll go for a corrupt, racist woman!"

[–] Triumph@fedia.io 32 points 1 day ago (2 children)

The US: "i don't think we can overlook the woman part."

The US: "We can ignore shooting a puppy in the face, but being a woman is a step too far."

No joke, for real shit I was told by coworkers after that last election.

We live in the stupidest timeline. I wouldn't dismiss the possibility that the first woman president could be someone in the Sarah Palin / Marjorie Taylor Greene / Kristi Noem model.

[–] JackDark@lemmy.world 3 points 1 day ago

Please don't ruin my day like that.

[–] devolution@lemmy.world 7 points 1 day ago

Corrupt, animal abusing, racist woman.

[–] atomicbocks@sh.itjust.works 39 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I wouldn’t be surprised if she just heard somebody else say cabinet meeting and she thought it sounded cool.

[–] triptrapper@lemmy.world 17 points 1 day ago (1 children)

That's what I thought also. Maybe she thinks DHS is itself a cabinet and she's leading the meetings.

[–] frostysauce@lemmy.world 2 points 23 hours ago (1 children)

That was my thought as well.

I also had that thought.

Damn, 200 million is actually a lot of money. I wonder who the money actually went to , to make any ads. I would have filmed a few ads for $100 million.

[–] LifeInMultipleChoice@lemmy.world 7 points 20 hours ago* (last edited 20 hours ago) (2 children)

I believe she had her past campaign staff create a company and gave them the money, with no oversight or review that I know of that she didn't just give hundreds of millions of U.S. taxpayers money to her friends for no where near that amount of work. Company supposedly was created within days before of the payout

[–] Doomsider@lemmy.world 5 points 17 hours ago

So embezzlement then. Another felonious POS.

[–] MartianHills@lemmy.world 5 points 18 hours ago

Yep. "Safe America Media, LLC" was incorporated in Delaware on February 6th, 2025. Received a $143 million-dollar, expedited, emergency DHS contract on February 13th, 2025.

Delaware doesn't require LLCs to list principal agents, so there's no telling who is receiving this money without a court subpoena. Probably why she's on the outs with Trump because he didn't get to wet his beak.

[–] Corkyskog@sh.itjust.works 2 points 20 hours ago

I would film them for $50 million.

Noem, dubbed “Ice Barbie” for her love of cosplaying in uniform roles...

It's also because she's made of plastic.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 13 points 1 day ago

I think she's just a narcissist.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 6 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

Why would the Administration be upset that she is planning a Presidential run?

Unless they already have plans either to steamroll a Trump 3rd term, or have something like Don Jr. run on a transparent platform of "Vote for me, get my dad too".

Or, maybe it's the fact that there's only so far a woman can go in MAGA. So they're really more upset that she might aspire to being more than a Secretary....

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 3 points 21 hours ago

Simply imagining a time when Trump is no longer in charge is probably viewed as an unforgivable sin.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 4 points 1 day ago (1 children)

Meh, either calling her team a 'cabinet' is not a big issue or she's too stupid to realize it's an issue. I don't think it says anything about her ambitions.

[–] paper_moon@lemmy.world 10 points 1 day ago* (last edited 1 day ago) (1 children)

I for one, am getting tired of people and media alike, constantly downplaying and under estimating the motives and ambitions of these people. For gods sakes people, they're showing you who they are, just fucking believe them.

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 1 points 22 hours ago

I believe she's a fascist and an idiot but exaggerated stories like this don't really tell anything new about. She does worse things all the time.

[–] ech@lemmy.ca 3 points 1 day ago

Should start playing into it. Nothing would piss her boss off more than people treating someone else as his equal. Would probably fire her after the first news headline.

[–] doug@lemmy.today 1 points 1 day ago

They’re not fake, it’s a real dollhouse

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 0 points 1 day ago

Well okay, but the cabinet meetings were the only thing about her that was fake.
