I wish they had just made a single player Marathon sequel... oh well. I will definitely give it a shot but confidence is low :(

Agreed. The original series is one of my favs. I fact the first one is the very first game I ever bought, came on four floppies, less than 8 megs. I've been getting into extraction shooters recently (arc raiders, escape from duckov) but the fast pvp nature of the game as it currently looks doesn't appeal to me.
100% dude. I was right there with you back in the day. My first "online" experience was a net game of M1 over MacTCP to my buddy down the street. After it came out all my Macs had a copy of Infinity and I wasted countless hours in Forge making wild maps. It was a great time in my life. I still play Aleph One now and then to kill time because its like a warm blanket to me now.
I will definitely give this new Marathon a shot at some point, but this gameplay is just not where I am at. I don't really fit into this new world of online experiences, maybe I'm just getting old and Marathon is moving past me for a new age. I guess that's fair. Its just hard to see as a die hard fan. Oh well.

Yeah, if they had called it something else I would've checked it out. I do like the art style and the world building but...

"allegedly" you can board the alien spaceship and see the marathon enemies of old as some sort of unlockable raid thing... I saw the floating invisible alien in one of the trailers for about 3/4 of a second... but genuinely why even call it marathon?
Same thing with the recent “””carmageddon””” game, that basically has fuck all to do with actual Carmageddon.
I guess it’s easier to get/use the naming rights to a beloved franchise and just hope for customers that way, instead of making an ACTUALLY GOOD GAME.
This breaks my heart. The Marathon trilogy had such a cool setting and atmosphere. What the hell is this.

This game was caught using stolen assets. Fuck Bungie.
I hate Bungie, but it was only a few textures, and they have been replaced. The rest of the game is not "stolen."
I didn't say the whole game was stolen. The fact that they stole assets at all is deplorable. Also, this wasn't the first time they were caught doing that. They've been caught stealing artwork for Destiny too. Fuck Bungie.

The subgrenre of art that this one artist used has existed before that artist even used it.
No artist "owns" an art style. Imagine if Rembrant claimed to own chiaroscuro. His estate would still be claiming monopoly over the art style, effectively handicapping the progress of art as a whole. Nobody could create art with heavy contrast between light and dark anymore because "thats Rembrant's style only and nobody else can use it." As someone with artistic ability, "owning" an art style is the most ricidulous idea in art I have ever heard of.

This has the makings of another Concord written all over it. Even after the disaster with the stolen art, the reports I've heard are that the gameplay just isn't good. Whatever talent was at Bungie left some time ago by the sounds of things.
Can we stop making everything a huge interconnected online only world? Like I like the visuals and the atmosphere that these previews have given me (I know a lot of it was stolen, but I still like it) but no way in shit does any of that mystery or intrigue come through if I've got 3 drunk or high assholes shooting everything that moves with me.
Looks like Destiny with its soul sucked out.
