THE POLICE PROBLEM

4911 readers

The police problem is that police are policed by the police. Cops are accountable only to other cops, which is no accountability at all.

99.9999% of police brutality, corruption, and misconduct is never investigated, never punished, never makes the news, so it's not on this page.

When cops are caught breaking the law, they're investigated by other cops. Details are kept quiet, the officers' names are withheld from public knowledge, and what info is eventually released is only what police choose to release — often nothing at all.

When police are fired — which is all too rare — they leave with 'law enforcement experience' and can easily find work in another police department nearby. It's called "Wandering Cops."

When police testify under oath, they lie so frequently that cops themselves have a joking term for it: "testilying." Yet it's almost unheard of for police to be punished or prosecuted for perjury.

Cops can and do get away with lawlessness, because cops protect other cops. If they don't, they aren't cops for long.

The legal doctrine of "qualified immunity" renders police officers invulnerable to lawsuits for almost anything they do. In practice, getting past 'qualified immunity' is so unlikely, it makes headlines when it happens.

All this is a path to a police state.

In a free society, police must always be under serious and skeptical public oversight, with non-cops and non-cronies in charge, issuing genuine punishment when warranted.

Police who break the law must be prosecuted like anyone else, promptly fired if guilty, and barred from ever working in law-enforcement again.

    That's the solution.

Our definition of ‘cops’ is broad, and includes prison guards, probation officers, shitty DAs and judges, etc — anyone who has the authority to fuck over people’s lives, with minimal or no oversight.

RULES

Real-life decorum is expected. Please don't say things only a child or a jackass would say in person.

If you're here to support the police, you're trolling. Please exercise your right to remain silent.

Saying ~~cops~~ ANYONE should be killed lowers the IQ in any conversation. They're about killing people; we're not.

Please don't dox or post calls for harassment, vigilantism, tar & feather attacks, etc.

Please also abide by the instance rules.

It you've been banned but don't know why, check the moderator's log. If you feel you didn't deserve it, hey, I'm new at this and maybe you're right. Send a cordial PM, for a second chance.

Gonna have many different colors wristbands for different folks. Maybe the Jewish folks can get two stars this time for status as a return player.

And I bet eventually one will be able to pay for a gold one especially from Trump.

You know, the Nazis had pieces of flair that they made the Jews wear.

[–] Lost_My_Mind@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago

....kinda weird that Applebees stole their visual identity from the nazis.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 11 points 4 days ago (1 children)

No no see they're marking the citizens. It's totally different. /s

[–] laranis@lemmy.zip 42 points 4 days ago (1 children)

Maybe everyone put on wristbands and you're all good!

Shit, once ICE figures that out they'll move on to tattooing numbers on forearms. Fuck, we're speed running this Nazi shit aren't we.

[–] grue@lemmy.world 17 points 4 days ago

Or everybody remove your red wristbands to waste their time checking you again.

I know it doesn't really apply anymore, but I thought I'd drop this here:

Fourth Amendment

The right of the people to be secure in their persons, houses, papers, and effects, against unreasonable searches and seizures, shall not be violated, and no Warrants shall issue, but upon probable cause, supported by Oath or affirmation, and particularly describing the place to be searched, and the persons or things to be seized.

[–] pineapplelover@lemmy.dbzer0.com 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

But the probable cause was he's brown

Actually, that's the truth.

There is no sarcasm here.

It is called a Kavanaugh stop.

[–] totesmygoat@piefed.ca 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Great. As a Canadian truck driver. This should be interesting.

[–] jaschen306@sh.itjust.works 8 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Depends on some factors in your complexion....

[–] totesmygoat@piefed.ca 4 points 3 days ago

I've been working on my redneck camo. And umm... Local hand signs to these people.

[–] Rhynoplaz@lemmy.world 45 points 4 days ago (3 children)

Stupid bitch doesn't know that PA doesn't issue REAL IDs by default.

She thought it meant is was fake! 😂🤦🏻‍♂️

[–] CaptDust@sh.itjust.works 23 points 4 days ago

Yup, stupid and violent. If it's not Real ID, it's not in the fed database. They should know about this shit.

[–] halcyoncmdr@piefed.social 19 points 4 days ago (2 children)

Even then, Real ID is new. Most of the country doesn't have one. Most likely because they don't travel and their current ID has not expired. Standard AZ licenses for instance don't expire until you turn 65. Even though you're supposed to get a new photo every 10 years, you could have your first license almost to retirement and still have it technically be valid.

[–] borari@lemmy.dbzer0.com 4 points 3 days ago

I have a passport. I flat out refuse to get a real id until I have no other option at my local dmv. Feds can get fucked making states do shit for them.

[–] some_kind_of_guy@lemmy.world 6 points 4 days ago

Real ID is over a decade old at this point, but your point still stands

[–] floquant@lemmy.dbzer0.com 6 points 3 days ago

I'm sure that when they came up with it they knew calling it that meant you could say "That's not a real ID". Capitalization doesn't carry over to voice.

That wristband looks cheap, generic, and easily obtainable.

[–] SpaceNoodle@lemmy.world 16 points 4 days ago

Flood the zone.

https://www.amazon.com/Colored-Wristbands-Bracelets-Waterproof-Adhesive/dp/B0BZRPFNMX/

About a penny a piece. Be prepared for any color! (And preferably buy from someone other than Amazon, I'm just lazy with my links).

[–] FiniteBanjo@feddit.online 17 points 4 days ago

Admit to it? My brother in spaghetti theres a fucking Executive Order for it from early last year.

[–] sleepmode@lemmy.world 13 points 4 days ago

These traitors sound like they're only acting as remote hands for people that don't understand that RealID is not default in every state and other things because they're also fucking morons. "If you're cleared." Sit the fuck down. Pathetic.

[–] ScoffingLizard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 10 points 4 days ago

I'd tell them to fuck off. He doesn't need to wear a red band. Fucking fascists pigs.

[–] vivi@slrpnk.net 9 points 4 days ago (2 children)

could do without the dramatic music

[–] RampantParanoia2365@lemmy.world 1 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Uh...they did. The music Is only from the video.

[–] vivi@slrpnk.net 3 points 3 days ago

all I'm saying is that it would be better if the editor of the video didn't choose to add dramatic music to it.

[–] NotASharkInAManSuit@lemmy.world 1 points 4 days ago (1 children)

That is your issue with what’s going on this video?

[–] vivi@slrpnk.net 15 points 4 days ago (1 children)

the dramatic music makes it feel fictional, like a story. things that are really happening should not be artificially dramatized.

[–] Fredselfish@lemmy.world 8 points 4 days ago

So this like the shit the nazis made the jews wear? Star of David?

When are Americans gonna stop policing the world, complaining about everyone else and grow some balls and use their second amendment on these Nazis?
