Does anybody know of a European home security system (just a simple siren and motion sensor and an app) for when you're away from home?

I've checked out Philips Hue but I still cannot tell whether they offer a normal alarm system or not.

It also seems like a lot of companies in this area have gone broke or stopped shipping.

Because of the propensity for 3rd parties stealing my data or just going out of business leaving me with no product, I went down the route of homeassistant + zigbee buttons and door/motion sensors with cheap internet-isolated tapo cameras + frigate nvr to capture the footage

Also a Google Coral TPU to process the footage for activity.

This is the nerd route, but it also can't be taken away from me. Also no subscriptions and cheaper initial purchase price.

Though the HA hobby eats your wallet.

Did you find a satisfying solution for the doorbell?

I’m about to entirely rework my home automation to use HA + Matter + Zigbee, but I’m still using a Ring Doorbell.

Alas, my building has an intercom system. I'd just use a webcam + frigate + esp8266 button + make home assistant make a dingdong noise and take a picture

If you have an old bell built into the door you can hook the old button up to anything like an esp32, and if you don't and therefore need to put a wireless button on the door (like a battery operated ring) you can do the same with an esp32 plus a battery.

You could probably even buy any random old wireless doorbell and make it 'smart' by reading the output of the speaker unit.

On top of that, putting a camera through the peephole if available is also much easier than one would guess.

About to start my own HA+Mycroft journey. What eats your wallet exactly?

It's more expensive up front, but I'm very happy with my Doorbird 🇩🇪

How about the "Z-Wave" System from Technisat. (Germany)
Or you dive into the "Shelly" System. (Bulgaria)

Thank you very much for this tip! They were the right solution for our needs. Didn't want to start a new project with my own home server etc

I Use them myself. German company and German servers.
