I think some of those people have simply lost trust in the establishment and likely for good reason. I've known some kids that were put in horrible juvenile detention centres which caused them life long trauma, not to mention all the survivors of the residential schools in Canada; in those instances I can totally understand. To them I suspect filling out a ballot would cause them physical pain so when someone tells them to vote all they feel is revulsion.

Outside of situations like that, I truly don't know. Maybe a high degree of apathy and privilege?

It's naive at best, but either willful ignorance or poorly reasoned resistance at worst. You can't change things by not participating.

And pretending you have any high ground, when you don't vote because of a singular issue being a problem, is foolish to the extreme.

Some people think they will improve things by not participating because the candidates don't line up perfectly with their principals. All you get then is the direction others pick for you. You've solved nothing, but potentially made things worse.

There is no upside to not participating if you are seeking to improve things. If you are a shitty person and fear other people because of melanated reasons, by all means, allow other more reasonable people handle the voting. But otherwise, look at all the issues and vote for the one that does the most good or the least damage.

People might believe they're apolitical because they don't think they can change anything or they're don't think they're on the receiving end of the political action, but when a policy hit too close to home they would be the one whining about politic, which i think where the single issue voter are from. I don't believe there's apolitical people, just politically ignorant.

They irritate me. I guess I sort of understand, some people have too much going on in their personal lives to pay attention to politics, but it still drives me mad. Especially given the current situation in the Untied States. It's inching closer and closer to full on holocaust. Soon, people will be being imprisoned and executed purely because of their race and there will be people going "I don't know anything about that cause I don't follow politics". And it will be because of people who couldn't be bothered to pay attention and vote against it.

Literally an impossible position. Every facet of your day to day life is the result of politics. They may be ignorant of politics. They may hate politics. But they were born into a political world, and so they are a part of politics.

The only way you can escape politics is if you're literally the only person on a planet.

They’re going to be very confused when they, too, end up in the camps.

Decisions are made by those who show up. If you don't, you better have a lot of reach, because otherwise you're giving up your decision making power. And if you did, I don't want to hear a word of your moaning.

If they grew up in a democracy (including flawed democracies such as USA (at least it was pre-2025)), they are being so disrespectful to those that lived before them, all their struggles of sweat and blood, all so that they won't even cast a fucking ballot. Idiots.

If they grew up in a dictatorship... then I can kinda understand. They have a valid excuse to be fearful of politics.

My parents were born during the "cultural revolution" of China, they've learned that "don't criticize the government = survival" so I can't exactly blame them for their beliefs, its basically like CPTSD but for politics.

If they have a traumatic childhood and don't have the mental energy to be dealing with more conflict (such as politics), then they have what is effectively a disability as an excuse, I don't blame them, hard to stay sane in chaos, go take care of your mental health first.
