Welcome to the News community!

Rules:

1. Be civil

Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.

2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.

Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.

3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.

Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.

4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.

Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.

5. Only recent news is allowed.

Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.

6. All posts must be news articles.

No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.

7. No duplicate posts.

If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.

8. Misinformation is prohibited.

Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.

9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.

All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.

10. Don't copy entire article in your post body

For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.

Hey someone actually doing politics correctly.

[–] RaoulDuke85@piefed.social 54 points 1 week ago (2 children)

We don't want them. They belong in prison.

[–] cynar@lemmy.world 38 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Those who turn soon should be accepted. Not Scot free, but accepted. There's the possibility they were roped in by propaganda, and got too deep.

If they don't turn now, they definitely knew what they were doing, and should face the appropriate consequences.

It's also worth remembering, always give your enemy a way out. It's a lot easier to run down the die-hards than deal with a group of cornered animals.

It's refreshing to see possible forgiveness as a first step before applying a firmer hand.

[–] captainlezbian@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago

Surrender should always be rewarded, turning sides moreso. Full forgiveness isn't always warranted, but you only hurt yourself by offering no quarter

[–] mriormro@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 week ago (2 children)

We gave them a way out already. They've already drawn a line in the sand.

Fuck every last one of them and fuck this limp-wristed response to the extreme state violence we have witnessed.

[–] cynar@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

There's the acute situation and the chronic one. The acute one needs action now. You also need to keep an eye on the long term goals.

It's a common thing that's been discovered with extremist groups. A good number of their members get in before it becomes extreme. By the time they realise, too much of their identity is tied up with the group. They get drawn deeper and deeper. This makes getting out both emotionally and practically costly.

Giving a release valve to remove these people from the group is emotionally unpleasant, but extremely useful for collapsing the group.

Also, those same people are often in the best position to help with deprogramming other members.

I'm not saying to let them walk Scot free, but you need to leave some way out. Unless you are willing to stand and systematically gun down them to a man (bare in mind, they will be firing back).

[–] mriormro@lemmy.zip 3 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Theoretically, how does one deprogram Nazi's funded by the state?

With the original ones? Shoot em. With these ones? Depends which variant but helping them skeeve out of paying back their "bonus" would probably do something.

For context that "bonus" they were given apon signing up for ICE was really a white elephant. If they leave before a certain timescale they have to pay it back, which would explain the utterly shit moral they have since plenty of them prolly wanted a quick paycheck and a bit of power and are now in way too deep.

[–] cynar@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I think the Germans might have some ideas to draw from. Or at least what doesn't work as well as you might think.

[–] mriormro@lemmy.zip 1 points 3 days ago

We never actually went through deprogramming as part of the wind down to WW2. We simply extracted the most valuable Nazis for our own benefit and kind of said "it's gonna be really hard and unpleasant to finish this process; let's just call it square".

[–] nforminvasion@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago

Defection is genuinely one of the greatest tools resistance movements have, especially over a period of time. And before you assume anything about me, I fucking hate fascists and I am not chomping at the bit to welcome in these thugs, but just historically speaking, defection is a huge asset for resistance.

Prison is the bare minimum. There's a reason Mussolini got the treatment he got.

[–] RaoulDuke85@piefed.social 13 points 1 week ago

People forget most of them are J6 fuckheads. There's no helping them.

[–] oggabalooga@piefed.ca 21 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Say it during the halftime show!

[–] LibertyLizard@slrpnk.net 10 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

They're doing the opening show I think? TBH I didn't even know there was one but might be worth a watch. Hope it gets spicy.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

the superb owl is the great american holiday of spectacle where we all watch because we have some fantasy of what it could be and then we all leave dissappointed

[–] ScrambledEggs@lazysoci.al 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

And domestic violence skyrockets.

[–] Quill7513@slrpnk.net 0 points 1 week ago

no one hates the modern superbowl as the great american holiday, the annual festival of nothing, than the partriarchs. just listen to the head of their cult talk about how much better it used to be when it was deadlier. their bloodsport has been taken from them. and within the frameswork of the patriarchy the only way to reclaim masculinity is through violence

The ICEatzgruppen like being on the side of the line that they’re on. They’re pretty much exclusively bullies. They enjoy acting with impunity. They view the world as zero sum, and are convinced there are terrorists and criminals hiding around literally every corner, and that they’re somehow virtuous bloodhounds saving “good Americans” from the “depraved immigrants”. The dudes who executed Alex Pretti were long timers, not fresh hires. Theres no excuse, and there’s no saving them.

[–] voidsignal@lemmy.world 2 points 6 days ago* (last edited 6 days ago) (1 children)

It's a bunch of racist inbread incel rednecks who played too much CoD.

There are in fact recordings that you can find where they’re remarking to each other how it feels like CoD

[–] oggabalooga@piefed.ca 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Most of them, yes. But I feel like the weight of their extended family and larger community calling them Nazi Brownshirts does actually weigh on their mental health. The goal here is to demoralize them as much as possible, and literally just shame them out of being fucking awful. Nazi thuggery doesn't really work as well if the entirety of national culture thinks you're a pathetic shitstain and you face active resistance every waking moment of the day.

Yes and no. The Nationalist Christians have a big persecution fetish.

[–] osanna@thebrainbin.org 3 points 1 week ago

Yup. I've love to see a venn diagram of one circle being Jan 6 rioters, and the other circle being ICEstapo cunts. I bet it's just a circle, or close to.

[–] Tedesche@lemmy.world 19 points 1 week ago (1 children)

He’s pleading with the wrong people. These are all heart-of-hearts racists. Proud Boys and Oath Keepers to a one. They deserve lifetime prison sentences, not forgiveness.

[–] rayyy@piefed.social 13 points 1 week ago

Unlikely because most of them want in on the pedo action. At the very least they are full on pedo protectors.

[–] alternategait@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If only his history of not paying workers was well known …

[–] frongt@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 week ago

They'd do it for free.

[–] Ooops@feddit.org 10 points 1 week ago (1 children)

If history is any indication ICE will sadly have to first become bigger, more influental and have a leadership developing their own ambitions before the "dropping them like a bad habit" happens... alongside awarding lots of Ernst-Röhm-Memorial-Awards.

[–] lemmylump@lemmy.world 4 points 1 week ago

Yes there will come a time when they will weed out the undesirables, just like Röhm who was one of Hitler's closest friends and openly gay.

[–] Gates9@sh.itjust.works 9 points 1 week ago* (last edited 6 days ago)

Whatever happened to “make work”? I remember when Obama created the “green energy” initiatives, along with a number of other proposals for infrastructure projects that would have a return on investment and the motherfucking republicans called it “make work”, likened it to digging ditches.

What is ICE other than a make-work jobs program for racist losers and dumasses who can’t get a job or hold one down anywhere else?

These assholes should be repairing the roads and bridges we see collapsing all over the country. They should be building federal funded hospitals in rural communities instead of shutting them down with Medicaid cuts. They should be building housing. Rename DHS the “Department of Housing Security”.

Our priorities are profane.

[–] osanna@thebrainbin.org 2 points 1 week ago

I misread this and thought green day was on the side of the ICEstapo. I was thinking "that's....... unlike green day"
