Try https://b.piefed.social/ instead! Log in with the same username and password as piefed.social.

It works best on a phone / tablet but on a desktop it's fine too once you switch to compact mode.

It can be installed as a PWA.

There are also lots of themes you can try at https://piefed.social/user/settings. Here are some screenshots of them - https://join.piefed.social/screenshots/

Thank you for sharing my PieFed/Lemmy UI! Btw, if you're in the progress of migrating from Lemmy to PieFed, you can login to both Lemmy and PieFed simultaneously via blorpblorp.xyz. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me with bug reports or feature requests. The best way to report those is GitHub, but I also read PieFed/Lemmy comments.

Thank you for your continuous work on Blorpblorp!

[–] Ulrich@feddit.org 12 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Probably should include the name of the software you're using and credit the dev:

Blorp by @moseschrute@lemmy.world

[–] rimu@piefed.social 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

That would be a nice gesture and I think I'll do that in future, if I have the spoons.

@moseschrute@lemmy.world have you considered adding "Powered by Blorp" with a link to your site at the bottom of the left column? That way every copy of the software has your stamp on it and SEOs you.

[–] moseschrute@lemmy.world 1 points 1 week ago

Thought about it. Blorp is a client side rendered app. It makes it really easy to host since it's just a collection of static html, JS, and CSS files, but not the best for SEO. From what I can tell, Google's crawler can run JS but I don't think Bing (which I think DuckDuckGo is based on?) can.

It's pretty difficult trying to share 99% code between web and "native" iOS/Android apps. I decided early on that SEO would add one too many constraints with not enough benefit. But SEO aside, I think linking back to the software somewhere in the UI would be nice so users can learn more about the app they're using.

Edit: the blorpblorp dev literally thanked the OP in this comment: https://lemmy.world/comment/21972414

The terms of use and privacy policy both acknowledge the name of the software

[–] Ulrich@feddit.org 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Great, I'm sure everyone who comes here will click through and read those.

E: the dev literally wouldn't even be here if I hadn't tagged them, because they were not mentioned anywhere, nor was the name or source of the software they created.

[–] Blaze@piefed.zip 1 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Photon doesn't add the app name or developer credits anywhere either, at least on mobile: https://photon.piefed.zip/

[–] Ulrich@feddit.org 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Photon did not share this post.

[–] Blaze@piefed.zip 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Nor did Blorp. Photon is the alternative front-ends, similar to Blorp.

Piefed.zip and Piefed.social are the instances adding those front-ends.

[–] Ulrich@feddit.org 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

Nor did Blorp

Yes, so they're also not the ones responsible for attribution, thanks.

I don't understand why you're arguing with me about something as simple as providing attribution.

[–] Blaze@piefed.zip 1 points 1 week ago (1 children)

The blorpblorp dev literally thanked the OP in this comment: https://lemmy.world/comment/21972414

He doesn't really seem impacted negatively by the lack of attribution, which is further evidenced by the lack of attribution in Blorpblorp itself, the same way Photon doesn't have it either.

Some people just want to create apps for the sake of it, without having people using their apps being pointed out that they don't give credits to them.

[–] Ulrich@feddit.org 4 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm not gonna argue with you about this anymore. This is stupid. You didn't even make this post. It's just respectful to attribute FOSS when you use and share it. That's all. Goodbye.

[–] Blaze@piefed.zip 1 points 1 week ago

And it's also respectful do not point out something like "lack of attribution" to the lead dev of the main platform of the Threadiverse.

Your comment looked like a criticism of the post, and adding Blorp to Piefed.social, when the Blorp dev literally thanked Rimu to add it.

Contributors (devs, admins, mods, posters, commenters) burn out is real, and this of negative unjustified comments contribute to it. Why should people try to develop this platform when they get greeted with "well, you should probably have done this minor thing that nobody cares about, on top of everything else you've done".

[–] moseschrute@lemmy.world 3 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I don't plan on adding credits, but if I did it would definitely be video game style auto scroll just for the lols

Something like

[–] Blaze@piefed.zip 1 points 1 week ago

Would be fun ha ha

[–] Ash@piefed.social 8 points 1 week ago

Much better, thanks

[–] baguette@piefed.social 7 points 1 week ago

I like the logo with pixelated font.

[–] tavos@piefed.social 6 points 1 week ago

Looks awesome!

[–] nibble@piefed.social 4 points 1 week ago (3 children)

I like the default theme. I just want to change the accent color.

[–] cabbage@piefed.social 5 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I'm sure this can be done with custom CSS in the user settings!

I don't really know how, but if nobody magically spawns with a solution in this thread you could consider asking in !piefed_css@piefed.social :)

[–] nibble@piefed.social 4 points 1 week ago

thanks. i'm gonna look into that

[–] wjs018@piefed.social 3 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

The Amethyst theme in your user settings is mostly a recolored version of the default theme that is pretty popular. You could give that a shot. The HPT themes are a bit more of a departure, but they have lots of fans out there as well.

The colors are all overwrite-able via custom css in your settings if one of those options doesn't work. Which elements are you looking to recolor? We use Bootstrap css for the web ui, so you would just need to overwrite the default colors that Bootstrap uses.

[–] kip@piefed.zip 2 points 1 week ago

high contrast theme is the best one imo

[–] cyrano@piefed.social 4 points 1 week ago

This is nice

[–] fujiwood@piefed.social 4 points 1 week ago

Another web alternative is https://phtn.app/.

[–] cile.sb@piefed.social 3 points 1 week ago
[–] Tywele@piefed.social 3 points 1 week ago

I really like it, much better than the default.

[–] oilbin@piefed.social 2 points 1 week ago

Wow, looks nice!
Is it missing the feature to enable/disable notifications on communities/threads or did I just miss it?

[–] Alaknár@piefed.social 2 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (1 children)

That link should be "x.piefed.social". ;)

EDIT

I'm confused about the Themes bit - did you mean that as in "there are other themes than the default one for regular PieFed, and that's information that's unrelated to b.piefed.social"?

FAKE-EDIT

PLEASE add the Ctrl+Enter shortcut to send comment/post!

[–] Blaze@piefed.zip 2 points 1 week ago

The themes are indeed for the default Piefed UI

needs more random spez quotes in between comments ;)

[–] manxu@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago

I love Blorp and it's my default interface/Piefed app on mobile. It looks very polished and thought out.

That said, I am not happy with typography that modifies contrast for emphasis. It works alright in dim conditions and / or dark mode, but in bright environments the low contrast portions of text become completely invisible, not just unreadable. That's not Blorp in particular, it seems to be a design trend ATM.

[–] Tywele@piefed.social 1 points 1 week ago

After using it the whole day now I don't like that you can't turn off infinite scroll.
