Are they going to turn the cameras on?

Welcome to the News community!
Rules:
1. Be civil
Attack the argument, not the person. No racism/sexism/bigotry. Good faith argumentation only. This includes accusing another user of being a bot or paid actor. Trolling is uncivil and is grounds for removal and/or a community ban. Do not respond to rule-breaking content; report it and move on.
2. All posts should contain a source (url) that is as reliable and unbiased as possible and must only contain one link.
Obvious biased sources will be removed at the mods’ discretion. Supporting links can be added in comments or posted separately but not to the post body. Sources may be checked for reliability using Wikipedia, MBFC, AdFontes, GroundNews, etc.
3. No bots, spam or self-promotion.
Only approved bots, which follow the guidelines for bots set by the instance, are allowed.
4. Post titles should be the same as the article used as source. Clickbait titles may be removed.
Posts which titles don’t match the source may be removed. If the site changed their headline, we may ask you to update the post title. Clickbait titles use hyperbolic language and do not accurately describe the article content. When necessary, post titles may be edited, clearly marked with [brackets], but may never be used to editorialize or comment on the content.
5. Only recent news is allowed.
Posts must be news from the most recent 30 days.
6. All posts must be news articles.
No opinion pieces, Listicles, editorials, videos, blogs, press releases, or celebrity gossip will be allowed. All posts will be judged on a case-by-case basis. Mods may use discretion to pre-approve videos or press releases from highly credible sources that provide unique, newsworthy content not available or possible in another format.
7. No duplicate posts.
If an article has already been posted, it will be removed. Different articles reporting on the same subject are permitted. If the post that matches your post is very old, we refer you to rule 5.
8. Misinformation is prohibited.
Misinformation / propaganda is strictly prohibited. Any comment or post containing or linking to misinformation will be removed. If you feel that your post has been removed in error, credible sources must be provided.
9. No link shorteners or news aggregators.
All posts must link to original article sources. You may include archival links in the post description. News aggregators such as Yahoo, Google, Hacker News, etc. should be avoided in favor of the original source link. Newswire services such as AP, Reuters, or AFP, are frequently republished and may be shared from other credible sources.
10. Don't copy entire article in your post body
For copyright reasons, you are not allowed to copy an entire article into your post body. This is an instance wide rule, that is strictly enforced in this community.
You already know they won’t, and even if they do, a malfunction will always be the reason the footage was lost, unless it helps them track and arrest protestors.
They will wear them, they will have them on. When they murder people, we will see. However, just like now, nothing will happen. And, I think this will lead to more staged executions like Pretti. They will just be slightly better actors.
I fully expect that they will release ai-doctored body cam footage
Oh THAT I would believe. And it will be crazy obvious, yet they will deny it.
Look at this ICE officer handing out roses to black people.
Even if, what does it even matter? Multiple people filmed how they executed people and it didn't matter
Depends on whose agenda it helps.
Are people really still confused about this? Police loves body cams. Body cams make it easier for them to prosecute people and let them gather intel on protesters. If by accident body cam records something inconvenient they just hide the footage. Body cams are for surveillance, not accountability.
So yes, they will turn them on and they will stream all the footage to Palantir.
I doubt they will even wear them
They all have Grok AI integrated to ensure that they're Always On™ and that all of the totally real and accurate details of the violent antifa rioters brandishing their automatic assault pistols are enhanced to perfect, crystal-clear HD
or the video footage not being withheld from the public?
The problem isn't lack of evidence, it's lack of accountability and consequences. Adding another camera on the scene doesn't fix the issue.
This assholes won't actually use them correctly and conveniently "lose" the footage when needed, but generally having more cameras does actually help.
Yes the hard part of accountability is the elephant in the room, but I'm just saying, more cameras is always better than less.
We agree, I'm not against more cameras. I just don't see it changing anything when they'd already voluntarily pull out their personal device to record themselves killing someone.
Comprehensive reviews of body cam usage already put into question the overall efficacy of body cameras (https://doi.org/10.1111/1745-9133.12412 is the one I see cited most often, not sure if there are newer systematic reviews).
And that one also comes to the conclusion, especially regarding effects on use-of-force:
Ariel et al. (2016a) recently provided one nuanced explanation to these mixed findings. They discovered that when officers have more discretion in turning on their cameras, they tend to exhibit greater uses of force than officers who have less discretion regarding their BWCs [Body-worn Cameras]. In most of the use-of-force studies reviewed earlier, researchers did not track activation and therefore it was not clear to what extent Ariel et al.’s nuance is salient. If activation is related to use of force in these ways, however, consistently training, reinforcing, and supervising the implementation of mandatory policies may be needed to secure a positive effect of BWCs on reported uses of force
That, combined with the seemingly more gung-ho internal processes in DHS/ICE, also leads me to believe in few positive outcomes here -- especially with the 'editorial monopoly' in institutional hands.
Who cares, we’ve already seen video of them shooting people for less than good reason and not a fucking thing happened
That's great! They'd never murder someone on camera!
“Does this AR-15 make my ass look fat?”
Don't care. Fuck you. Go to prison.
Really leaning into their snuff films now instead of looking for public views.
-Dons tinfoil hat-
What if this policy is used to gather visual data to train an AI model to generate false attacks on ICE in one calm area to justify escalation in another hot area?
This would give them free rein to attack a peaceful neighbourhood based on the AI false flag attack and to escalate tensions between peaceful protestors in another part of the city / country.
I thought that's what they were already doing. They have been caught posting edited images already.
Haha, will they be turned on? That's a rhetorical question, don't answer.
If it supports their side of the story it will be
Yes.
Back in the Naughties, I thought this approach would matter, would rein in police abuse.
I didn't understand that police violence and mendacity were systemic, cultural problems, not evidentiary ones.
It would work if the cops weren't able to turn them off and the footage was uploaded to servers not owned by the PD.
The problem is that even confirmed abuse does not get prosecuted. Adding more evidence won't help.
Now they got two hands for killing us. Hands free mode.
Will they be held responsible if they "forgot to switched it on" or "left it in the office" or "accidentally deleted that file"?
Narrator "they turned the cameras off"
Because, you know, we don't want the cameras to always be on. What if something happened and they need to shoot a sassy mom in the face for driving at less than 5 mile per hour?
Happens every day, that is why our agents fear for their lives. Have YOU ever seen a car going 5 miles an hour? I doubt it, hippy
With an off switch, no doubt.
Put a QR code on their backs too. And take their damn masks off.
And, tell them to follow the fucking law and the constitution.
Tell them? They should be fired, prosecuted and no longer eligible for any government jobs for violating the constitution.
....and other stupid lies only brain dead bootlickers belive.
Body cameras are not to protect the people and are not about accountability. Unmask them all. We will need their identities when we get to the end of all this.
Oh good this will be much better now that these crimes will be heavily recorded. The problem before is we didn't have multiple angles of the crime recorded or something like a cell phone recording by the ICE agent.
And coincidentally all the cameras are broken.
You'd think with a budget of billions that they'd be able to afford reliable cameras that don't malfunction at inopportune times.
But of course, that obvious thought would never occur to their supporters.
Solar powered.
Now more than ever, people need to be out on the streets, documenting everything these fucks do. Get it on video, from every possible angle. Don't let them control the narrative.
Dems are gonna call this a huge victory, of course they need more funding, they have to pay for more body cams.
