Former Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) called out one-time ally Donald Trump for abandoning the core promises behind his “Make America Great Again” movement.

“MAGA is, I think people are realizing, it was all a lie,” she told YouTube host Kim Iversen. “It was a big lie for the people.”

The Trump administration, she said, is all about serving “big, big donors,” including foreign countries and large corporations, with many funneling cash to Trump’s PACs and pet projects such as his White House ballroom to win favor.

Better late than never, I guess? I'm sure this pivot is at least partially self-serving, but we need all the allies we can get against Dickless Jackass Trump.

[–] sylver_dragon@lemmy.world 92 points 1 week ago (12 children)

Yup, I'd never consider Greene an ally. But, the enemy of my enemy is a useful tool against my enemy. The more conservative voices calling out Trump's corruption and self-serving, the better. The MAGA base is never going to listen to anyone who is politically to the left of Atilla the Hun, but someone like Greene may be able to peel a few of them off into the "disaffected, non-voters" camp.

the people who need to internalize what she's saying... they don't listen to women

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 26 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago) (2 children)

Give Marjorie credit for at least figuring it out. Although a very tiny, tiny proportion of MAGAts ever see consequences, women seem to be overrepresented:

  • Marjorie's experience recently getting shut out of running for Senate or Governor by the MAGA establishment is at the top of her mind, of course.

  • Elsie Stefanik drew the short stick too, she was nominated to be UN Ambassador, and a bunch of other Republicans in the House were also nominated for positions in the administration. All those other men got their promotions, but when it was time to affirm Elsie's they told her the House majority was now too thin. Then she launched her own campaign for NY governor, only to find that once a male Republican announced his campaign, all her support evaporated.

  • And with all the problems recently with ICE, from Trump to Stephen Miller and all down the chain, I bet Kristi Noem will be the first to face any consequences. She might be offered up as a sacrifice to keep the rest of it going.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 15 points 1 week ago

She knew the whole time. But she was in the inside of the grift. Now she got pushed out and is mad about it.

[–] Bob_Robertson_IX@discuss.tchncs.de 12 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Give Marjorie credit for at least figuring it out

Don't think she didn't know it was a grift the entire time. She got in, got hers and is now getting out so she can do the whole 'news consultant' gig. The only thing I'll give her credit for is that she might just open a couple of eyes... but I don't think she's doing that out of a sense of service to her country, but instead it is just part of her personal rebranding.

[–] dhork@lemmy.world 12 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

They all know it's a grift. She wanted the grift. What she figured out is that she will never really be part of the boys' club. When consequences are forced onto them, they will land disproportionally on the ones without penises.

I hate this all or nothing monolith mindset. No, not all of the MAGAts are the same. There are some who will see her saying this and leave. Your mindset is one of failure, where there's nothing to be done (besides civil war, which won't be as nice as you think). We need to spread that it's even too bad for her, and she was one of the most ardent supporters. Let them know all the "good" things they wanted were bullshit. We can get some of them to leave.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 6 points 1 week ago (1 children)

Atilla the Hun is actually too left for them, he actually listened to the patriarch of Rome and didn't kill him. Also had the good sense to die after fucking shit up, wine makes a damned good blood thinner and he fucked himself up on it before getting a bloody nose.

[–] AbidanYre@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago

Apparently Trump loves pounding aspirin, so we have that going for us.

She's gunning for a run at the presidency, mark my words.

[–] Zombiepirate@lemmy.world 79 points 1 week ago (1 children)

She's just mad that she got frozen out of the boys club. She was one of the biggest fundraisers in the party— she did her "duty" and only after she got stiffed did she figure out that there is no honor among thieves.

If this caterwauling troll had gotten her bag she'd have had no complaints. Fuck her.

[–] chaogomu@lemmy.world 24 points 1 week ago

I always saw Greene as a true believer, she believes horrible hate filled shit, but she actually believes.

The thing is, her hate filled beliefs don't match up with what MAGA actually believes, which is that certain white men get to make up the rules as they go along.

It just took her being shut out for the disconnect to appear.

She still believes in the hatred, but doesn't like the constant lying of those in her party.

[–] Waldorf@infosec.exchange 55 points 1 week ago (8 children)

@MicroWave Let's not forget WHO Marjorie Taylor Green really is! She's sick and divisive and has no respect for America. A turd doesn't smell better just because it's flushed!

[–] criss_cross@lemmy.world 42 points 1 week ago

I don’t see this as MTG being a good guy.

I see this as MAGA eating itself. And I’m here for that.

“People watching Fox News, every day, 24/7 with their volume turned all the way up in their living room and it’s so loud that you can’t hear anything else? Those are the baby boomers and God bless them, those are my parents’ generation. I love so many of the baby boomers, but they are the most brainwashed generation because they eat that crap, like, they just eat it up all day long. They’re spoon-fed the propaganda on TV.”

Damn, MTG over here spitting facts. She did lean into that propaganda hard, so can't really give get a pass. But still good to see her speaking some truth.

[–] MasterNerd@lemmy.zip 26 points 1 week ago (2 children)

Given how many bullshit conspiracy theories she's peddled over the years, she doesn't have much ground to stand on

[–] n1ck_n4m3@lemmy.world 28 points 1 week ago

No, but I'd still rather she be peddling the truth now than never. She doesn't get a pass and I don't forgive her, but I welcome anyone who wants to stop preaching bullshit, no matter how heinous the shit they used to say was.

[–] InputZero@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

It's like when your brother finally gives up drugs. You don't forgive or forget all the terrible stuff that they've done, but you welcome the person you knew before the drugs back. At least what's left of them. MTG doesn't deserve forgiveness but she deserves respect for admitting that she was wrong and walked back. It wasn't her idea to do any of this and I'm sure if things went differently she'd still be by his side but an ally is better than an enemy.

[–] boaratio@lemmy.world 51 points 1 week ago (1 children)

I hope she gets hot coals shoved up her ass when she dies and goes to hell. The video she filmed, before she was in Congress, yelling at David Hogg and the other highschool victims when they were going to testify in front of Congress is unforgivable. I don't care how many mea culpas she does, she is a broken person that deserves every bit of hate she gets.

[–] EvilBit@lemmy.world 25 points 1 week ago

That said, don’t stop her now

[–] vegeta@lemmy.world 32 points 1 week ago
[–] BarneyPiccolo@lemmy.today 29 points 1 week ago (1 children)

So, MAGAs, if you're keeping score:

  • America First, no foreign entanglements. Yeah, not so much.

  • Lower prices on day one. Past Day 365, and everything is even higher than it was, and rising.

  • Release the Epstein Files. Still not happening.

  • Rounding up undocumented criminals, but they are grabbing up American citizens.

  • Paramilitary Death Squads roaming our streets, breaking out in spontaneous firing squads against American citizens.

So what are you still in for? The open corruption? The violence? The Pedophilia?

I'll bet it's the Pedophilia. If you're a pedophile, you're going to figure your best chance is with the PedoCons in charge.

[–] OhStopYellingAtMe@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

It’s the racism. And assorted other bigotry.

[–] anon_8675309@lemmy.world 23 points 1 week ago (1 children)

MTG is not our friend. But she can definitely be useful.

It's gonna take only months for news outlets like the NYTimes and the rest to rehabilitate her reputation and make her a hero like Liz Cheney. Fuck them all. She is a screaming baboon. She's a racist conspiracist who believed in Qanon. She harassed a survivor of a school shooting on video. She thought (thinks) Jewish space lasers are a thing. C'mon, she's a fucking piece of shit.

She's crazy and stupid (and stupid and crazy). Getting power and finding out her hero is a piece of shit doesn't make her a good person. Don't give her any respect.

[–] some_guy@lemmy.sdf.org 7 points 1 week ago

Responding to my own comment, Liz Cheney is not a hero. I'm only saying that Lib publications treated her like one.

Jesus Christ Marjorie that took a really long time for you to clue in when everybody else knew the whole time.

[–] smeenz@lemmy.nz 5 points 1 week ago* (last edited 1 week ago)

*everybody except the 25% of Americams who still think that Trump hasn't gone far enough, and won't be happy until they see army tanks on the streets blowing up Jesus's house.

It was a lie that she intentionally and knowingly told thousands of times. I hope the trials don't show her any mercy

[–] cheffrey@lemmy.zip 18 points 1 week ago (2 children)

My coworker follows her and Candace Owens. Coworker used to preach Doge and MAGA. Doesn’t so much anymore.

Granted, coworker still doesn’t vaccinate her kid. But better is good.

Happy MTG isn’t maga anymore.

[–] wakko@lemmy.world 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

You ever ask her why she's suddenly not as interested in satanic pedo sex cults run by elites now that she knows she helped get one elected as President?

If she actually regretted any of it, she could've retained her seat and voted against MAGA.

Methinks this is much about attention as anything she did that was pro-MAGA.

[–] cogman@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago

It's all to move for another seat. She's politically savvy. She'll run for Gov or president or to be a VP pick. Building distance from today's MAGA is just a calculated move to make her look more moderate.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 16 points 1 week ago

Yeah, no shit. Welcome to the party, Marj.

The Republicans/conservatives hate this country and want to destroy everything about it that actually was built toward meeting any ideals, strip it for parts, and funnel all the money to the already rich. Appealing to the racists and xtian zealots only helps them meet this goal, even if only some of the elites may actually be xtian/racist.

And "maga" == conservatives == Republicans.

[–] Etterra@discuss.online 14 points 1 week ago (1 children)

No shit bitch. We've only been saying for what, a decade now? 12 years?

[–] how_we_burned@lemmy.zip 7 points 1 week ago

it feels so much longer. Every day, even when he wasn't the president was a never ending shit show of what is Trump saying now

clusterfuck

I wonder who have called this before her 🤔 … ho right every body with two brain cells

[–] slothrop@lemmy.ca 11 points 1 week ago

Her breath still reeks of boot polish, tho'; there was a lot of lapping happening.

[–] just2look@lemmy.zip 8 points 1 week ago (1 children)

All of her talk lately makes me wonder of she is trying to line up a 'save the republican party' presidential bid.

[–] ameancow@lemmy.world 7 points 1 week ago

She's 100% going to try to launch some kind of personal "revival" conservative party like the Tea Party did way back when.

I hope she is very open about it and just calls it the "Trash Party" and instead of a donkey or elephant, their logo is an overweight American on a mobility scooter

[–] BenderRodriguez@lemmy.world 6 points 1 week ago

This is the equivalent of a liberal podcaster or comedian being cancelled for saying or doing something stupid then immediately signing up for a new show at InfoWars.

[–] king_comrade@lemmy.world 5 points 1 week ago (6 children)

If MTG can change, then we all can.
