The two federal immigration agents who fired on Minneapolis protester Alex Pretti are identified in government records as Border Patrol agent Jesus Ochoa and Customs and Border Protection officer Raymundo Gutierrez.

The records viewed by ProPublica list Ochoa, 43, and Gutierrez, 35, as the shooters during the deadly encounter last weekend that left Pretti dead and ignited massive protests and calls for criminal investigations.

Both men were assigned to Operation Metro Surge, an immigration enforcement dragnet launched in December that sent scores of armed and masked agents across the city.

CBP, which employs both men, has so far refused to release their names and has disclosed few other facts about the deadly incident, which came days after a different immigration agent shot and killed another Minneapolis protester, a 37-year-old mother of three named Renee Good.

Something that jumped out at me: These guys had worked for CBP for ~8 and ~12 years, respectively.

These thugs, who wrestled an uninvolved bystander to the ground, then shot him in the back while he lay there helpless, were not panicky newbs. These were veteran CBP officers.

Is this just what veteran CBP officers are like?

[–] s1ndr0m3@lemmy.world 89 points 2 weeks ago

Jonathon Ross, who murdered Renee Good, works for CBP for 10 years. Abolishing ICE isn't enough. All of DHS needs to be uprooted.

[–] Hegar@fedia.io 39 points 2 weeks ago (3 children)

There are a couple possibilities:

  • These names could be fake.
  • The regime could've encouraged or tapped trusted long time agents to intentionally kill as part of their escalation plan against the american people.
  • These guys are just violence-lovers who have been waiting for a time they thought they could get away with murder.
  • Even veteran CBP officers are incompentent fucking newbs.

You forgot an option they've done stuff like this before, likely to a minority or immigrant, and thought they could continue to get away with it

Or E) B,C, and D

All but the first one are likely. Patsies, maybe, but full-on fictitious? There's no way that wouldn't bite the Nazi admins in the collective ass. The rest? Yeah, all of the above.

I read an article a few weeks ago, which pointed out that ICE does work internal to the US and is generally pretty restrained. CBP works at the border and is generally more aggressive, chasing down and subduing people who've crossed the border, usually in remote and hostile territory. They said that CBP could often be violent, and now those people were being released to use those same tactics against American cities.

So yes, this is exactly what some CBP officers are like.

Well, but a tail light was kicked out. Oh and some spitting happened. Obviously that requires being shot in the back multiple times by Reel Murican Heroez.

That taillight video looks like ai

[–] BrikoX@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It was confirmed by his parents.

That he's in the video and video is authentic.

[–] darkdemize@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Hey, so you're not the first person I've seen with this view. Just curious what about the taillight video indicates to you that it is AI and not real footage. Is there anything specific you can point to, or is it just a feeling you have? Honest question, no judgement.

[–] PriorityMotif@lemmy.world 12 points 2 weeks ago

You're not going to kick a taillight and have it fall out like that unless it was already broken or loose also the wiring is stupidly long. The people in the video I saw also move fucky/ unnaturally unless the video I saw was sped up for a few frames here and there. It could be a doctored video where he really did kick the car, but I doubt the taillight would just fall out like that.

I dated a CBP officer once. They only get some basic training on how to use their weapon, and some simulations and that's it. Just some basic training to defend themselves.  Not this kind of stuff.

Reminds me of The Simpsons when Homer became a juvie prison guard:

They just finally got permission to do what they always wanted i guess.

[–] floofloof@lemmy.ca 6 points 2 weeks ago

Or maybe the other times they've done it, it wasn't on camera in the middle of a busy urban street.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 6 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don’t think this is true information. Why would the admin be honest about this? The gun discipline isn't of people who have practiced even a year with their weapon, for starters.

They’re painting a picture instead.

[–] Makeitstop@lemmy.world 19 points 2 weeks ago

According to the article, the names were in government documents which they were able to view. There's no indication that the information was released or intended for release. It sounds more like someone with access leaked the information to them.

It's possible that this is a lie, but I don't see how it helps DHS or the administration. I think it's a lot more likely that there's a complete lack of standards and accountability at CBP and ICE and that the problem has festered for decades. Being a 10 year veteran doesn't mean anything if they aren't enforcing standards and weeding out anyone who falls short.

[–] someguy3@lemmy.world 6 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago) (1 children)

I listened to a former director's (or something) take and he said likely they were trained for a different kind/style of enforcement, not the crowd control style that Trump shoved them into. I wanna say that's a weak explanation, but I don't know how often they were raiding before Trump.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 33 points 2 weeks ago (4 children)

There were many more than just 2 of these goons on the scene.

Also: those don't sound like murican names to me. I wonder if these guys are students of history. Do they think Stephen Miller won't eventually get to the point of having these two deported, as well? We are only a year into this shit and they are already murdering white people that show any contrarian views of the plot for mass deportation. Where do they think all this stuff leads if it is followed to its insane conclusion?

[–] tonytins@pawb.social 16 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Knowing this administration, they may be giving us a red herring.

[–] Zephorah@discuss.online 7 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

I don’t suppose Stephen Miller is impeachable? This is his direct work, at this point.

[–] CharlesDarwin@lemmy.world 2 points 2 weeks ago

I'm unsure, but if not, I'd love to see someone find a way to arrest his dumb ass.

[–] fakebanjo@lemmy.org 2 points 2 weeks ago

I’m sure some rope and a hammer will get the rest of the names

[–] TheEighthDoctor@lemmy.zip 14 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

Jesus and Raymundo? Really? Traitors

[–] mohammed_alibi@lemmy.world 8 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

It's incredible how many ICE agents are Hispanic. But I guess Mexican cartels kill Mexicans all the time. Ukrainians and Russians are closely related. Israelis and Palestinians are mostly descendants of Abraham and Jacob. China and Taiwan are mostly ethnically Han Chinese. It's brothers hurting brothers all over the world. Very sad.

"No one hates quite like family."

[–] okcomputer@piefed.world 12 points 2 weeks ago (1 children)

The sad reality is they’ll probably end up making a lot of money off gofundme

[–] cecilkorik@lemmy.ca 4 points 2 weeks ago

I am not implying that anything will happen to them anytime soon, and as you suggest they may even profit in the short term, but I do think they might end up with a shortened lifespan eventually, or if they're particularly lucky, just a significantly less free one.

[–] ArbitraryValue@sh.itjust.works 11 points 2 weeks ago* (last edited 2 weeks ago)

Were these records unofficially leaked to ProPublica? That seems to be the implication.

[–] fakebanjo@lemmy.org 3 points 2 weeks ago

There is only one action from here.
