It's only a meteorite once it hits the ground. It's still a meteor for a very brief moment while it vaporizes you.
For similar reasons you'll never need to worry about dying to magma. Lava, on the other hand...

Fun fact: Only 3 people in recorded history have been hit by meteorites (that we know about), and only 1 of them was killed. That's some pretty good odds!

This is political in normalizing the interfamilial violence. the statidtic is there because some amount of violence is often seen as normal within a family and we have a have culture of protecting the family. blood is thicker than water.
