I would honestly just let comments be. Apply usual rules (ban hate speech, either place on political manifold), but if someone is trying very hard to find politics is automation of factorio vs stardew valley (that was the lost post i saw), then just let them do it. I am personally not pro heavy moderation. But in any case, if you feel it is just 1 specific person, call them out once, and if they still keep that up, maybe consider just banning/timing them out or something.
NPCs (NonPolitical Comics)
A community for comic lovers who just want to get away from politics and gloom and doom.
- Rule 1 - Be civil.
- Rule 2 - Don't be uncivil.
Posting guidelines:
- No political comics. This generally includes anything referencing whatever bullshit Trump is up to, but also includes the megacorps. Essentially if the comic is about how the world today sucks, it doesn't belong here.
- Where possible, tag the title with [comic name]. This refers to the name of the artist or overall comic, not the title of the specific strip.
- Tag NSFW / NSFL / AI content accordingly.

I dont think political comments should be allowed, feels like it goes against the spirit of the sub. That being said, you have to recognise the state of the US right now, where i can only assume most subs are. A lot of people browse by all and dont realise what sub theyre in. What im getting at is i dont think you should outright ban people for their comments, even on like a 3 strike system. Its just too easy to make a political comment.
Instead, if lemmy allows it, for their first warning just delete the comment. For their second and further, issue them either temporary bans(a day or two) or better yet just mute them. With the amount of time eacalating based on number of infractions.
That being said, i personally find the running joke to be very humourous. I dont think theres actually much confusion on whether a lot of these posts are "political", i think people are just having fun with teasing about how in some ways everything has become political.
Edit: having just reread the post, no clue if im part of the community. I only browse all so theres no point in me subbing to stuff. Can i be an honorary community member?
You're a part of the community if you enjoy it and aren't calling me a fascist for starting it :)
We have plenty of spaces for talking about current events. Might as well reserve this one for not doing that.
Not posted or commented yet but I'd hope for a political safe zone.
I love politics but understand others would love a spot they can decompress without random spurts of "Welcome home from your 12 hour shift, they killed a kid while you were gone"
I like the people trying to make the comics seem political though and have been tempted to start going out of my way to find the most tacit connection I can
Edit: comics, not comments
I'd hope for a political safe zone.

I can't figure out which side you're on :)
Sorry, auto corrected from comics to comments. I like the running joke of all the comics posted here secretly being political
I vote against allowing political comments.
If you want to yak about politics, literally every other community on Lemmy would be glad to hear about it I'm sure.
This should be a safe space for a break from all that.
I agree. It’s nice to have a spot where it’s not as likely to devolve into snarky comments about the state of the world.
This this this this. I am dealing with the real world every day. I hear about and try to do something about the horrors. But joy is important too for resisting, and it's hard to have that when you check on online and there is snark everywhere and shoving the horrors into every possible discussion. I probably could just get offline, but on the other hand I want to help the Fediverse grow so I keep coming back. Even taking my approach of only looking at communities I subscribe to… I had to filter out gaming@lemmy.world because people would politic in every conversation. I appreciate a safe space from the horrors.
Hear hear!
the whole stick is that this place avoids sad, shitty reality and instead it's a bit of funny stuff right?
i think if you dont want it infested with "non-political" as in "no women in games" then the running joke is kinda important?
Just to clarify, 'no women in games' would not only be the sort of politics we're explicitly not allowing, but would also be flat out misogynistic.
