Users of Meta’s social platforms can no longer share links to ICE List, a website listing what it claims are the names of thousands of DHS employees.

People are claiming reddit is doing it as well.

I'm curious as to just how easy it'd be to get around the censorship.

Like, just find one article from a news outlet that links the site, and share that article.

Or otherwise share a fediverse link to a post to the site.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 33 points 2 months ago (1 children)

I thought fediverse stuff was getting blocked on reddit too.

[–] OpenStars@piefed.social 56 points 2 months ago (11 children)

Only if it portrays Lemmy in a positive light. You can criticize our toxicity and left-leaning political biases as much as you like in r/RedditAlternatives though:-P.

[–] FauxLiving@lemmy.world 25 points 2 months ago

Narrative control is entirely in the hands of who can hand out bans.

[–] vaultdweller013@sh.itjust.works 8 points 2 months ago (3 children)

I don't think we're particularly toxic, insult matches between MLs and other lefties aside and even then it's usually infinitely better than your average 4chan thread.

Then again Hexbear being blocked by so many instances prolly helps.

It's not about hiding it, it's about bending knee and placating tyrants.

[–] ch00f@lemmy.world 24 points 2 months ago

Looks like it's getting close to the Streisand kiss of death.

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 21 points 2 months ago

reddit has been trying to help bots/propaganda astroturf anti-trump, anti-republican content for the whole last year. i have heard there is significant amount of comment and post removals over it, and some bans.

A friendly reminder that the act of doxxing is not illegal. Neither is collating information. Nothing ICE List does is illegal.

It's just a fundamental threat to the current administration and the billionaire class.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 10 points 2 months ago

Revealing information that is already supposed to be public isn't even doxing

[–] HeyThisIsntTheYMCA@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

what's a phone book precious

[–] extremeboredom@lemmy.world 88 points 2 months ago (4 children)

You mean icelist.is? It's pretty easy to remember. It's also pretty easy to just print it out on a ton of little business cards and just start leaving them in public places. Putting them in library books. On the tables in waiting rooms. In fact, I'll bet it's pretty easy to spray paint on just about any surface...

[–] homesweethomeMrL@lemmy.world 54 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You talking about icelist.is? Oh yeah I know that site

[–] extremeboredom@lemmy.world 37 points 2 months ago

It's the hottest site, all my friends are talking about icelist.is!

Reddit is removing icelist links as well.

[–] IAmYouButYouDontKnowYet@reddthat.com 57 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

It's not just ICE that is the enemy. Treat them all the same. And GTFO their apps.

[–] harmbugler@piefed.social 18 points 2 months ago

They are behaving as an extension of this anti-democratic, crime & coverup administration, and should be treated as such.

[–] LillyPip@lemmy.ca 45 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

Literally 1984.

Funny that we have used that so much and watered it down, people can’t take it seriously now it’s actually true.

The government is intervening here. Whatever I guess.

[–] dandylion@lemmy.zip 7 points 2 months ago

Do we have a 1984 bingo chart yet?

[–] engene@piefed.ca 29 points 2 months ago (4 children)

People need to get off their dependence on Meta! Its support of Trump was my cue to leave immediately!

[–] Tollana1234567@lemmy.today 7 points 2 months ago

facebook is where they capture older people to be conservatives, threads?

tiktok is where the meat is for gen z, they need that future supply.

[–] partofthevoice@lemmy.zip 15 points 2 months ago

The people who know least what freedom is, because they’ve been convinced freedom to be an ignorant asshole is the same thing as freedom from an oppressive upper class.

Mirror that shit everywhere folks

[–] boomlandjenkins@lemmy.world 8 points 2 months ago

It's an older copy but can be viewed offline. https://archive.org/details/wiki.icelist.is

[–] DFX4509B@lemmy.wtf 16 points 2 months ago

One more reason for the rest of the Fediverse to block Threads itself then.

Doesn't stop one from posting "Google wiki icelist".

https://icelist.is/

There's also an archive where people are taking screenshots of fascists who post on social media that includes their real names and photos.

[–] waterSticksToMyBalls@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago

Are they ever going to publish that 4500 person list?

[–] DarkFuture@lemmy.world 10 points 2 months ago (1 children)

You'll never meet a bigger coward than a billionaire.

So why are we so afraid to tax these little bitches?

Wasn't there some kind of E2E encryption on WhatsApp? If true, how do you block users from sending a link?

[–] ExLisper@lemmy.curiana.net 11 points 2 months ago* (last edited 2 months ago) (1 children)

On Tuesday morning, WIRED verified that posting links to the site was blocked on Instagram, Facebook, and Threads. WIRED also confirmed that links can still be sent on WhatsApp, another Meta-owned product.

Why do you say they are blocking it on WhatsApp?

[–] idefix@sh.itjust.works 10 points 2 months ago (3 children)

Because I only read the title
