!nostupidquestions is a community dedicated to being helpful and answering each others' questions on various topics.

The rules for posting and commenting, besides the rules defined here for lemmy.world, are as follows:

Rules (interactive)

Rule 1- All posts must be legitimate questions. All post titles must include a question.

All posts must be legitimate questions, and all post titles must include a question. Questions that are joke or trolling questions, memes, song lyrics as title, etc. are not allowed here. See Rule 6 for all exceptions.

Rule 2- Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material.

Your question subject cannot be illegal or NSFW material. You will be warned first, banned second.

Rule 3- Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here.

Do not seek mental, medical and professional help here. Breaking this rule will not get you or your post removed, but it will put you at risk, and possibly in danger.

Rule 4- No self promotion or upvote-farming of any kind.

That's it.

Rule 5- No baiting or sealioning or promoting an agenda.

Questions which, instead of being of an innocuous nature, are specifically intended (based on reports and in the opinion of our crack moderation team) to bait users into ideological wars on charged political topics will be removed and the authors warned - or banned - depending on severity.

Rule 6- Regarding META posts and joke questions.

Provided it is about the community itself, you may post non-question posts using the [META] tag on your post title.

On fridays, you are allowed to post meme and troll questions, on the condition that it's in text format only, and conforms with our other rules. These posts MUST include the [NSQ Friday] tag in their title.

If you post a serious question on friday and are looking only for legitimate answers, then please include the [Serious] tag on your post. Irrelevant replies will then be removed by moderators.

Rule 7- You can't intentionally annoy, mock, or harass other members.

If you intentionally annoy, mock, harass, or discriminate against any individual member, you will be removed.

Likewise, if you are a member, sympathiser or a resemblant of a movement that is known to largely hate, mock, discriminate against, and/or want to take lives of a group of people, and you were provably vocal about your hate, then you will be banned on sight.

Rule 8- All comments should try to stay relevant to their parent content.

Rule 9- Reposts from other platforms are not allowed.

Let everyone have their own content.

Rule 10- Majority of bots aren't allowed to participate here. This includes using AI responses and summaries.

For comparison, Kiwifarms is a site devoted to harassment and hatefulness, especially towards neurodivergent and LGBTQ people and such.

When I said "the opposite of Kiwifarms", I mean a site dedicated to celebrating neurodivergent and LGBTQ people. rather than harassing them.

Celebrating, or hating, someone for characteristics outside their control is really weird to me.

Sites like the one mentioned aren't worth giving time or attention, even mentally. My mind short circuits into thinking the same about sites celebrating the same.

I'd be awfully annoyed if someone went around celebrating me for having brain damage, as if I'm some prop to be hoisted around.

Instead I'd prefer we'd focus on building sites and communities where such things don't matter, and where we can all give each other enough leeway to get along amicably.

I'm aware it's a pipe dream, and people just aren't good at that, myself included, but the idea is dear to me.

You make an excellent point.

Perhaps, instead of "celebrating", the opposite of "[vicious] harassment and [ignorant] hatefulness" is virtuous identification and commitment to learning. Thoughts?

I love that sentiment. I feel learning about things I don't have any familiarity with, be it cultural, historical, physical, or anything else really helps me understand and empathise better.

We had this kind of Internet 20-30 years ago. It was nice. But then humanitarians came, then kids came, corporations... But 30 years ago the Internet was a beautiful place where engineers and geeks lived in harmony.

beautiful place where engineers and geeks lived in harmony.

The peaceful bliss of usenet forums & the nice decorum of mailing lists, lol. The mythical peaceful Internet has never existed.

[–] Lembot_0006@programming.dev 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

It existed. It was just a different concept of "peaceful". It wasn't peaceful by current "politcorrect" expectations. It was "show the code or go fuck yourself". It was based on merits and expertise, not by loudness. Modern Internet is a much more aggressive and repulsive place even if people can't say "fuck" or "lick the outlet" anymore.

if people can’t say “fuck” or “lick the outlet” anymore.

People can say fuck though, I'm not sure why people claim Internet is politically correct now just because we outgrew SomethingAwful & 4chan (both sites that still exist).

show the code or go fuck yourself

Except that's not really true, you can look at the Linux kernel for example multiple out of tree forks existed for years because of personal beefs not coding skills (it doesn't matter how good your tail-packing filesystem or scheduler is, if you're an asshole it won't get merged).

The ability to prepare the code that aligns the rules is a technical merit. If you are talking about Riser, Shishkin or forgot his name, whose FS was thrown away from the kernel recently. Those guys lived in their own worlds with them in the center :)

Is the domain "smrafiwik.net" taken?

You wanted the opposite of Kiwi Farms so I typed it backwards.

[–] knightly@pawb.social 2 points 1 day ago (1 children)

I think the opposite of harassment isn't so much celebrating the targets as defending them directly. In that case, the opposite of kiwifarms is community defense. Everything from infiltrators watching kf from the inside to give the targets an early warning to the folks who provide safehouses for people that can't stay at home or publish personal infosec guides to help reduce one's target profile. Every little bit can help when you're the target of a harassment campaign.

[–] DylanMc6@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

What about online community defense?

[–] disregardable@lemmy.zip 2 points 1 day ago

It’s not a social media site, but the Special books by special kids YouTube channel is centered around people with special needs or disabilities. Sometimes it’s kids or teens, sometimes it’s adults.

[–] verdi@tarte.nuage-libre.fr 1 points 1 day ago (2 children)

Is that a genZ thing? I didn't know this existed. Is it like those noughties websites for revenge porn that precipitated the enshitification of the Internet?

[–] Eldritch@piefed.world 1 points 1 day ago

Nope. Sadly among all the other things checkering Louis Rosman's past now, kiwifarms is supposedly part of it.

[–] DylanMc6@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 points 1 day ago

Kiwifarms is a site that's full of harassment and hatefulness, especially towards neurodivergent (including autistic) and LGBTQ and non-binary people. Seriously!
