~~Protesters gathered at the Home2 Suites by Hilton near the University of Minnesota, according to the Minnesota Daily, where they believed federal immigration agents were staying after the killing of Alex Pretti. Video from the scene shows protesters making loud noises outside and graffiti on the windows with messages saying things like “ICE out,” alluding to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the federal government agency which has been at the forefront of the Trump administration’s ongoing mass deportation campaign.

The New York Post reported the demonstrators also attempted to throw things at people inside the lobby and smash windows. Video shows two federal officers with long guns standing outside the hotel lobby as protesters gather. “Where’s the local PD?” one officer can be heard saying in the video, referring to the police department.

Eventually, law enforcement dispersed the crowd using the irritant colloquially known as teargas.~~

The National Guard took up guarding the Whipple Federal Building two days ago and now DHS's foot soldiers have been freed up to attack protesters elsewhere.

Giving out donuts and coffee sounds nice, but this operation isn't in any way about limiting DHS terror.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Walz is the one that called them up, so it isn't so ICE can attack elsewhere. Walz is trying to lower the temperature so protestors feel safe.

[–] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Ask yourself whether an external force protecting the federal building helps or hurts ICE. Walz, and political leaders in general, will always choose the "negative peace of the lack of conflict" over the "positive peace of the presence of justice". It may not be his intention to promote ICE, but when you provide defense for an aggressor it further enables their aggression.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Did you see Walz when he did the debates with Harris? That dude doesn't have that kind of mindset. He suuuuuucks at the political mumbo jumbo. He's trying to protect his people ffs.

Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of greedy, asshole, mf's on both sides (99% of the right and probably 30% of the left). Walz? No way, he's not one of those guys.

[–] Zaktor@sopuli.xyz 2 points 2 days ago

Whether it is his intention or not, that is the impact. Politicians can be nice and still end up promoting injustice due to timidity or a bias toward finding solutions through slow and steady politics or court cases.

Protesters should go outside ICE family homes, not hotels. Take the fight to their parents, siblings, and extended families. Make them shame their family into resigning from ICE.

This has been reported as you being a troll. This could actually be your opinion even though I doubt it. Since I'm on the fence, just know that my next step will be to remove your comment and then banning. This is just a warning for you to express why you're shitting on the protestors.

[–] PointlessProtestAgainstTheMachine@lemmy.org 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It is my opinion that anyone who knows an ICE agent is a potential target to get them to quit.

I am not a troll, I just have maga users reporting me… yeah, maga.

I don’t shit on protesters. I encourage additional actions that change the trajectory of the country, because despite the effort the trajectory is still towards fascism.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

This is me personally talking, not as mod. I can't take that marking away to be a person.

I downvoted you because it does seem trolling to say that the thing they're doing that is successful isn't good enough. We know it's working because they gassed them. You complaining about something working is very trollish behavior and I can see why it was reported.

[–] PointlessProtestAgainstTheMachine@lemmy.org 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It’s not working. Getting them upset and getting people killed WITHOUT anything moving away from fascism is NOT WORKING.

I’m allowed to have that opinion without being moderated and banned. I’m allowed to request more actions without being moderated or banned.

It’s great that you and other people don’t agree with me…….. but that’s your opinion.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Of course I'm accepting that it's your opinion, or I would have taken some kind of mod action. What I'm saying is, the opinion you're expressing is exactly what a foreign paid troll would do. That's why I understand why it was reported as a troll. Have a great day, I think we're on the same page.

[–] PointlessProtestAgainstTheMachine@lemmy.org 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

No, it’s not. “Foreign trolls” do not say stand up and fight for your freedom.

Saying “do more” and “you’re not doing enough” is not trolling.

Unless you are like all the other maga loving lemmings and cannot see anything in between a picket sign and a gun.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

You are inching more towards troll territory. When people are adamant that others do more and "they" aren't doing enough, then yeah, it's exactly the same as foreign trolls. It's easy to criticize when you're not doing anything yourself. What are you doing so we can all decide if it's enough?

[–] PointlessProtestAgainstTheMachine@lemmy.org 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

I’m inching more towards you disliking me, not to trolling. Huge difference.

You don’t care what I’m doing. You just want someone to yell at for not sharing your exact view.

I yell at the wind, you all beat people down who want change.

It’s like you all want this to happen.

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Again, what are you doing?

[–] PointlessProtestAgainstTheMachine@lemmy.org -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

More than you honey. And you and I both know admitting to “terrorism” according to the maga regime is unwise. It would also be considered against the rules in many communities and instances. So I can only guess you’re bating me.

What are you doing besides censoring anyone who asks for change?

[–] pelespirit@sh.itjust.works 1 points 2 days ago (2 children)

So, you don't protest, you do some kind of "terrorism" that you can't mention because I'm baiting you so I could ban you. Alrighty then.

This is my last comment to you, and this part is as mod:

If you're going to complain about the protestors in the future, explain what you have done differently and has worked or show articles of where it has worked in other places.

This is really my own personal community that I made to keep track of politics. I run a pretty tight ship, so banning you and removing comments is not off the table. I don't care if you think I'm taking away your free speech, lol.

[–] jim@lemmy.org 1 points 2 days ago

I have no interest in obeying you. I can express an opinion without showing sources. A rule you don’t enforce for anyone else—as evidenced by uncensored comments that you agree with.

So if you feel banning me is the solution, so be it. We both know that will silence me for about 5 minutes. You have no power over me. 💋

[–] rockSlayer@lemmy.blahaj.zone 10 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Most of them are out of state though. Utilizing Wide Awakes at their hotels is effective at decreasing their morale

Their morale is fine if they accept a pay check. That’s the only measure. They are either the enemy or not employed by the enemy.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Man, nothing ever seems to be good enough for you.

[–] PointlessProtestAgainstTheMachine@lemmy.org -5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Lmfao, are you comfortable with the direction of the United States?

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 6 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

My position isn't relevant right now, I'm just here to call out a defeatist troll.

[–] PointlessProtestAgainstTheMachine@lemmy.org -4 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Sure it is. You say nothing is good enough for me. So I ask, is the country good enough for you? And if not, is it headed to the direction you want? And if not then clearly the amount of effort being put forth is not enough to change the trajectory and therefore it is not good enough for you either.

But, I think you’re a maga. Because that’s the only reason you would complain about someone pointing out the trajectory.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 7 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Oh I'm sorry, you've misunderstood - I wasn't speaking to you except in the most literal sense, my initial message was just to point out who you were and your pattern of troll behavior to anyone else reading this, so they didn't mistakenly try to engage with you in good faith / uninformed.

I long since stopped thinking anything you said was done for any reason other than trolling, as has... well I assume most people on here, otherwise why would you say you have to make a new account every week.

[–] PointlessProtestAgainstTheMachine@lemmy.org -3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Just because a few people scream troll and you tag me doesn’t mean the tag is valid.

So you’re saying that you support maga then?

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 5 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Seems like if you're having to create a new account every week, it's more than just a few people.

[–] PointlessProtestAgainstTheMachine@lemmy.org -2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

It’s also a tactic to avoid the fed who I’m told is coming for me. Lol. Yet I see no fed.

Funny how you won’t confirm you’re against maga.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 3 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I don't think the feds are particularly known for going after their supporters.

[–] PointlessProtestAgainstTheMachine@lemmy.org -2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

Are you suggesting that I am in favor of maga? A thing you yourself won’t deny?

This isn’t an insult, because I know you know it’s not true lol

Be better. Try harder. Be less maga.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago (1 children)

That wasn't an insult, that was just a statement.

[–] PointlessProtestAgainstTheMachine@lemmy.org 0 points 2 days ago (1 children)

One that you know is not correct, lol.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

The feds aren't known for going after their supporters, especially this administration.

[–] PointlessProtestAgainstTheMachine@lemmy.org -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

I guess that’s why you walk free.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago* (last edited 2 days ago) (1 children)

Oh man, you actually went for the "No u"! God, I knew not taking the maga bait would get you eventually.

[–] PointlessProtestAgainstTheMachine@lemmy.org -1 points 2 days ago (1 children)

But bro, you do the same thing.

[–] Warl0k3@lemmy.world 1 points 2 days ago

Sure sure, whatever you say. Better luck next time.

[–] Bronzebeard@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

Why do you think they are using agents from outside the state?
