I imagine having an excuse to never go outside is part of the appeal.

[–] mech@feddit.org 8 points 3 days ago

"Liking winter" does not mean "liking the cold".
It's also winter inside your living room.

[–] Ach@lemmy.world 2 points 2 days ago

I love winter so much I pollute as much as I can to speed run though global warming and reach the inevitible ice age after.

I really enjoy winter. It’s 7 out. Windchill in the negatives. I love some spicy air.

[–] Syndication@lemmy.today 2 points 3 days ago

Same. I don't get cold when wearing the appropriate clothes. This might sound weird and maybe it's just me, but even when I do get cold, the goosebumps and tingles I get almost feel euphoric in a way. I like it. Not to the level of freezing to death obviously. I want winter to last forever. Why does the earth have to be heating up instead of cooling down with climate change... :(

I went on a hike this weekend in -7F. And last week I had ice cream outside in 13F.

[–] spacesatan@leminal.space 4 points 3 days ago

I agree but also the only times I've gone camping that I've really loved and love looking back on were in winter. Something about a snow blanketed forest just can't be touched.

Not worth it at the end of the day and I'm glad I moved somewhere that almost never snows but still.

While I love cozy warm bed, I will in fact be going for a walk in the worst part of the big scary blizzard purely for fun.

[–] ProgrammingSocks@pawb.social 1 points 2 days ago

Agreed. I love the snow

[–] xeekei@lemmy.zip 4 points 3 days ago

I have to work outside and I always have to bite my tongue when office workers go all "I love winter".

[–] kossa@feddit.org 7 points 3 days ago

Well, there's a reason humans evolved at the equator. Summer all year round and when you're hungry, you just grab a banana. The rest of life is chilling and banging rocks togehther.

I'm in the ice cream biz, and people tell me all the time: "I CRAVE ice cream in the winter time!"

No you don't.

[–] Buddahriffic@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

If you're referring to the winter layoffs in the ice cream industry, notice how it isn't "the winter complete shutdown of the ice cream industry". While aggregate demand for ice cream does go down, individual demand still varies and sales don't drop to zero.

I know if I offered my daughter a freezie right now, she'd excitedly put down the video game she's playing to have one, despite the fact I could just leave them on the balcony and they'd still be freezies.

My dad and I have always said "it's been cold enough that I've wished for summer, but never hot enough I wished for winter".

[–] Skua@kbin.earth 6 points 3 days ago

If it goes above 20 C for more than a week or so I definitely start wishing for winter. I'm not built for that shit

[–] Syndication@lemmy.today 2 points 3 days ago

Can't relate, it's the exact opposite for me lol

I just got home from being outside for hockey in 1 degree F weather and I LOVED it. I’m happy outside to about -9. I get so invigorated.

[–] Zizzy@lemmy.blahaj.zone 7 points 3 days ago (1 children)

Ok. But i just did a 16km walk in negative temp 2 weeks ago for no reason other than to go on a walk. I am a true winter enjoyer. The cold and snow is nice.

I just did this last night! I went on a short little walk while listening to music. I was thinking about how many people would judge me for it, but then I said to myself "who cares what they think I love winter". I'm glad I am not alone! I just wear a heavy jacket and put on a pair of gloves. Didn't feel cold at all. I was surprised.

However, subzero temps are still no joke. What I do in extreme temps is I put on all my heavy winter clothes and sit inside with it all on, as well as a heater going for a short period of time before I leave. When I start getting borderline hot is when I will start heading outside. I do this to be on the safe side, even though feeling hot in all those clothes inside sucks temporarily. It'll help keep you even more warm out there and will keep your blood flowing to your extremities too. Your jacket will be less efficient if you don't already have much warmth to trap under them to begin with, so be careful out there! It takes much longer to warm up even in the most biggest and best jacket if you only put it on after you were cold.

I literally just came back from a 3 hour walk outside XD

32°F (0°C) feels great =D

[–] Biffsbraincell@lemmy.zip 1 points 2 days ago

10°F here. Only a 45 minute walk but it was glorious.

I took from one of my gloves to play around with some snow, and my hand was quickly cold and stiff, but I put it back on and kept walking. 5 minutes later it was toasty warm. The joys of good clothing and body heat.

I was playing in the NYC snow with my kid until my face was numb

[–] ZJBlank@lemmy.world 4 points 3 days ago

I work outside, and I have to go to work regardless of the weather, even in a blizzard. I fucking hate winter. I’m convinced the only people that like winter are those who get to choose if and when they go outside.

I live in SoCal, the heat is going to get in and cook me regardless in the summer, I can at least fight the cold in the winter. Note the A/C and heater are both off regardless.

[–] Saapas@piefed.zip 4 points 3 days ago

This person doesn't know about winter sports, cross-country skiing, all fun winter activities

[–] BradleyUffner@lemmy.world 2 points 3 days ago

I DO love it, and I'll happily tell you that while shoveling 3 feet of snow off a100 foot driveway by hand in sub zero temperatures. Shoveling snow, especially while it's actively snowing, is like a Zen meditation experience for me.
