In my time I've conducted approximately one ass load of interviews. Those are the three top things worth asking and any company that excludes you for asking is deficient in one or all departments.

RUN!

Edit: also any HR department willing to tow that line is complicit and almost certainly run by the absolute worst of humanity.

Most companies nowadays decide to go with the bosses nephew.

They want to wait until the 3rd interview before discussing compensation. You know, the one where they view your social media history and test your blood for Hamas.

It's not us, it's you.

Fake and straight

I guess they prefer candidates who wanna know what they’ve been watching on Netflix lately. And where’s a good spot to get lunch nearby. And what’d you think about that thing making the rounds on social media.

All those questions about the actual job are pointless anyway. Amateur hour.

Why protect the identity of the ones saying this? Could save some people wasted time applying, or even worse, someone might even get hired by them.

Oh yes because who doesn't talk about pay during the in the interview process.

At minimum, responsibilities should be a primary point of discussion in interviews, and really it is usually on the job listing. And work culture should be a selling point that they want to talk to like it is the most important part of the job (it's not). The fact that they wont discuss either isn't a red flag. It is a flashing siren.

Also, I'm sick and tired of pretending that salary is not a primary consideration for both parties in this transaction. If you are cagey about money, I don't trust you, and I'm not interviewing anymore. Period. But I'm not pretending that I really want the job for funsies, and anything you pay me is just the cherry on top. I got bills to pay dude, and you want a functioning adult. Salary expectations from both parties should discussed in the first interview to validate that you are even in the same realm.

A recruiter once asked me why did I have a gap in my resume, it was the summer break between my BA and MA....

[–] Drusas@fedia.io 5 points 2 months ago

Having read about European kids taking a gap year after school and before starting work.... Aside from thinking it's amazing that young people there can afford to do something like that, I also was always envious that apparently taking a year off wouldn't screw them over when it came to getting a job. In the US, having even a few months when you're young during which you were not employed full time is seen as a red flag by employers. Because obviously you can't have a good work ethic if you want to take a few months of your life to yourself at some point.

if this isn't reportable and resulting in massive, back-breakingly MASSIVE penalties, then the system is fucked and laws must be rewritten.

That Woosh Woosh Woosh you have been hearing is the sound of the bullets you dodged.

They never had any intention of hiring you.

Those are exactly the questions you ask during an interview.

Be grateful at least you got a reply, instead of getting ghosted
